Hymn of the Day
As the deer runs to the river, parched and weary from the chase, we have come from hurt and hurry, thirsting for your healing grace. Jesus, source of living water, may we drink of you and live! ("As the Deer Runs to the River" - Text:Herman G. Stuempfle Jr., b. 1923)
Readings of the Day
Hebrews 13-For the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest as a sacrifice for sin are burned outside the camp. Therefore Jesus also suffered outside the city gate in order to sanctify the people by his own blood. Let us then go to him outside the camp and bear the abuse he endured.
Exodus 18-19-When the trumpet sounds a long blast, they may go up on the mountain.
Proverbs 8-I have good advice and sound wisdom; I have insight, I have strength.
Numbers 21.4-9-And the LORD said to Moses, "Make a poisonous serpent, and set it on a pole; and everyone who is bitten shall look at it and live.
God's Word of the Day
Gaze on the pole. Gaze at the cross. Gaze at Me and live.
Psalm of the Day
Outside the city, so much took place.
Jesus, My Savior was the slaughtered lamb.
Jesus, You gave Yourself for me.
Outside the city, in the world, with me in my sin, so much took place.
I come to You, Jesus, and gaze upon that pole outside the city.
I gaze and kneel in awe of Your love.
I see You on the cross.
I am bitten by the snake of sin, yet You hang from that pole.
I am bitten, sinful, deserving death on the cross.
In You sin dies and I live.
The Lamb is brought into the sanctuary.
The darkness of the tomb holds Your body.
Yet You do not die, You live.
Sins dies and You live!
What glory You have revealed, my Lamb from the pole of that cross.
What glory You reveal from the darkness of the tomb.
What glory You reveal in life.
Now I go outside this temple, outside this city.
I go alive and well and heed the sound of the trumpet.
I go fed with Wisdom, fed with Your body and blood.
I go refreshed with the living water, in joy.
I go outside the city to the cross.
I go in service to You.
I go in joy with You.
I go to my cross, outside the city.
I go and delightfully serve You in Your Kingdom.
I go to that cross outside the city.
Prayer of the Day
Jesus, You did it all. You, my sacrifice for sin, You, my Savior. I hear the trumpet sound and approach that cross and am given life. Now I go outside to serve and love those You give me this day. ---Amen

February 17th Daily Hymn, Reading, Word, Psalm and Prayer
Hymn of the Day
Seed that in earth is dying rises to bear much fruit. Christ, as we meet at your table, give us the bread of life. Lord, we do thank and adore you! Unceasing praise of the ages rises from night and death. ("Seed That in Earth Is Dying" - Text:Svein Ellingsen, b. 1929; tr. Hedwig T. Durnbaugh, b. 1929)
Readings of the Day
Hebrews 12-Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.
Exodus 16-17-Then the LORD said to Moses, "I am going to rain bread from heaven for you, and each day the people shall go out and gather enough for that day."
Proverbs 7.6-27-He is like a bird rushing into a snare, not knowing that it will cost him his life.
John 3.1-17-For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
God's Word of the Day
I AM the Bread, I AM the Manna that feeds you and sustains your life each and every day. I love you and I love the world I created. I come not to condemn but to save. Run the race with Me in eternal life.
Psalm of the Dy
Jesus, in death, You created Life.
Your Love is beyond anything I can fathom.
I can't figure out why You would choose to love me.
I'm such a sinner.
Sneaking about in the midst of my sin.
Yet You come to me with open arms.
Arms outstretched even to Your death.
But then, You brought life out of sin.
You brought light out of darkness.
You died and saved me in Your love.
Oh, how You love me.
Oh, how You love this world You created.
You cause me to celebrate Your love in joy.
You have given me a joy beyond expression.
How I run and jump and play with You in this journey of eternal life.
How I run with perseverance the race You have set before me.
How I love the race!
Yes Lord! Rain down that Bread, that Manna from heaven!
Rain down and let me take You in.
Fill me with Your presence and sustain Your Life in me!
Prayer of the Day
Wow! You love me! Wow! A joy I can't express builds within me! Wow! ---Amen

Through the days of waiting, watching, in the desert of our sin, searching on the far horizon for a sign of cloud or wind, we await the healing waters of our Savior's victory. ("As the Sun with Longer Journey" - Text:John Patrick Earls, OSB, b. 1935)

Proverbs 6.1-7.5-My child, keep my words and store up my commandments with you; keep my commandments and live, keep my teaching as the apple of your eye; bind them on your fingers, write them on the tablet of your heart.
Psalm 121-I lift up my eyes to the hills--- from where will my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

Psalm of the Day
As I walk through this desert of sin, I turn to You, oh Lord.
I am drowning in my sin and need You.
Only You can save me from myself.
Only You can save me from sin.
Open the waters and show me the path.
Give me the courage to step out in faith.
In faith fulfilled by Your action of grace.
Your action of grace, when You came down.
Came down to rescue all from sin.
Came down to die to live.
Came down to save us.
And I turn and see Your action.
I see what You have done.
I praise Your name and give You the glory.
You are my help in this desert.
You, the maker of heaven and earth.
The God of all has rescued His people.
You have sent us on a journey.
Lead me with Your love.
Let me show Your love and compassion on this journey through the wilderness.
Let me trust and follow Your lead.
For You have provided, Jesus, something better, something perfect!
As I walk through this desert of sin, I turn to You, oh Lord.
And I turn and see Your action.
Prayer of the Day
In my desert walk, I turn to You and see Your action on that cross. I give You all the glory, honor and praise, my God, my Savior. ---Amen

Exodus 13-14-The LORD went in front of them in a pillar of cloud by day, to lead them along the way, and in a pillar of fire by night, to give them light, so that they might travel by day and by night. Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of the people.

You provide for all my needs.
Even though I have sinned, You save me.
Saved through and by the blood of Christ.
I run and jump and play boldly for You in Your Kingdom.
Lord, You lead me through life.
You show me the way to go.
You make the invisible visble to me.
Prayer of the Day
Forgiven and blessed and called and sent. Thanks be to God! ---Amen

February 14th Daily Hymn, Readings, Word, Psalm and Prayer
Hymn of the Day
Onward, therefore, sisters, brothers; onward, with the cross our aid. Bear its shame, and fight its battle till we rest beneath its shade. Soon shall come the great awakening; soon the rending of the tomb! Then the scattering of all shadows, and the end of toil and gloom. ("Through the Night of Doubt and Sorrow" - Text: Bernhardt S. Ingemann, 1789-1862; tr. Sabine Baring-Gould, 1834-1924, alt.)
Readings of the Day
Hebrews 10.19-39-And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Exodus 11-12-The blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you live...
Proverbs 4-The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever else you get, get insight.
2 Timothy 1.3-7-...God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline.
God's Word of the Day
Forward We go as One. Forward We go with the cross before us. I have defeated sin, death and the devil. Forward we go in love, good deeds, encouragement and service in My Kingdom.
Psalm of the Day
Lord, You have defeated the power of the cross.
You have changed the cross from a symbol of death to a symbol of Life.
The cross, once carried to punishment.
The cross, now carried as a battle call to Life.
Let Your cross go before me every day.
Let Your cross encourage me to serve daily in Your Love.
I no longer need to cower at the foot of the cross fearing death.
Instead we approach Your cross, hand-in-hand.
We approach Your cross in reverence to Your Love.
We kneel at the foot of Your cross.
We slowly raise our gaze to Your glory.
We priase Your name and focus on You alone.
We give You all of our Love.
On this cross, You shed Your blood and gave Your life.
Oh the cross!
Oh the Christ!
Oh the Love!
Oh the Wisdom!
Lord, You have defeated the power of the cross.
Changed the cross and changed our lives.
Now and forever!
Prayer of the Day
Let Your cross go before me. Let me boldly and fearlessly serve You in Your Kingdom this day. ---Amen

Readings of the Day

God's Word of the Day
Listen to Me. See the temple. See the priest. See My outstretched arms of love that save.
Psalm of the Day
You took the cross, a symbol of death.
You changed it into a symbol of life.
You took pain and brought out joy.
You feed me with the food of life.
I take You in and live.
Live for the journey, You give to me.
I live for You in Your Kingdom.
Saint and sinner; You continue to use me.
You took Your body and made it the Temple.
You became the One and only priest.
I listen to Your instruction daily.
Listen through the voice of Your Word.
Listen through the words of father, mother, elder, youth.
I hear Your wisdom and gain understanding.
Then, full of Your Word.
I go, in Your name.
Prayer of the Day
Lord, I come to You and You welcome me. I listen to You and seek Your wisdom. You feed me and then send me. I go. Thanks be to God! ---Amen
Bane and blessing, pain and pleasure, by the cross are sancitified; peace is there that knows no mearsure, joys that through all time abide. ("In the Cross of Christ I Glory" - Text:John Bowring, 1792-1872)
Readings of the Day
Hebrews 8-Now the main point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a minister in the sanctuary and the true tent that the Lord, and not any mortal, has set up.
Exodus 5.1-6.27-I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment. I will take you as my people, and I will be your God.
Proverbs 1-Hear, my child, your father's instruction; and do not reject your mother's teaching; for they are a fair garland for your head, and pendants for your neck.
1 Kings 19.1-8-He got up, and ate and drank; then he went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb the mount of God.

February 10th Daily Hymn, Readings, Word, Psalm and Prayer
Hymn of the Day
Christ Jesus is the ground of faith, who was made flesh and suffered death; all who confide in Christ alone are built on this chief cornerstone. ("God Loved the World" - Text:Gesangbuch, Bollhagen, 1791; tr. August Crull, 1846-1923, alt.)
Readings of the Day
Hebrews 7-Unlike the other high priests, he has no need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for those of the people; this he did once for all when he offered himself.
Exodus 3-4-Then the LORD said, "I have observed the misery of my people who are in Egypt; I have heard their cry on account of their taskmasters. Indeed, I know their sufferings, and I have come down to deliver them from the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land to a good and broad land, a land flowing with milk and honey..."
Psalm 41-As for me, I said, "O LORD, be gracious to me; heal me, for I have sinned against you."
Matthew 4.1-11-Jesus said to him, "Away with you, Satan! for it is written, 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve only him.'" Then the devil left him, and suddenly angels came and waited on him.
God's Word of the Day
I AM the Priest. I AM the Sacrifice. I AM the One Who Saves. I AM the Word made Flesh. I AM The Breath of Life. I AM WHO I AM.
Psalm of the Day
What awesome power You possess, Jesus!
What commanding presence You bring to this place.
Away with you, Satan!
I worship and serve only the Lord.
Jesus, my High Priest.
Jesus, the sacrifice.
You have observed our human failings and sin.
You have chosen to rescue us.
Through You we approach that land of milk and honey.
How I look forward to this land.
How I delight in the journey.
Life comes alive in and through You.
Adventures unknown are awesome with You.
How much joy, You have brought to Your people!
Your gracious love heals me from my sinfulness.
Your gracious love gifts me and uses me as Yours.
What awesome power You possess, Jesus, the Cornerstone of it all!
Prayer of the Day
I worship You, Lord Jesus! I kneel before Your awesome power. You are the cornerstone. You are Life. ---Amen

As we worship, grant us vision, till you love's revealing light in its height and depth and greatness dawns upon our quickened sight, making known the needs and burdens your compassion bids us bear, stirring us to ardent service, your abundant life to share. Readings of the Day
Luke 24.13-53-Was it not necessary that the Messiah should suffer these things and then enter into his glory?
Genesis 44-What can we say to my lord? What can we speak? How can we clear oursleves? God has found out the guilt of your servants...
Psalm 35-Then my soul shall rejoice in the LORD, exulting in his deliverance.
Exodus 33.7-23-Thus the LORD used to speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend.
God's Word of the Day
Let's go for a walk. I have something to tell You.
Psalm of the Day
Jesus, my Friend, come near, I pray.
Come near and speak Your Word to me.
Speak that I may understand.
Speak that I may hear.
You show compassion.
You step out and act in love.
I see how my sin made Your suffering necessary.
Forgive me, my Friend.
Forgive my selfishness and pride.
Forgive my lack of love and compassion.
Forgive my sin.
Only You can clear my sin.
Only You can do this.
As Your expressed love is real.
So make my response to that love real.
Permit me to serve others in love and compassion.
Permit me to proclaim Your love and grace.
Permit me to work with You in Your Kingdom.
Permit me to do Your will and follow Your way.
Allow me to serve You.
Jesus, my Friend, come near, I pray.
Prayer of the Day
My Friend, let's walk together and let me learn from You. Show me the way and teach me Your Love that I may serve You in Your Kingdom this day. ---Amen

February 2nd Daily Hymn, Readings, Word, Psalm and Prayer
Hymn of the Day
Your city's built to music; we are the stones you seek; your harmony is language; we are the words you speak. Our faith we find in service, our hope in others' dreams, our live in hand of neighbor; our homeland brightly gleams. Inscribe our hearts with justice; your way the path untried; your truth the heart of stranger; your life the Crucified. ("Let Streams of Living Justice" - Text: William Whitla, b. 1934)
Readings of the Day
Luke 23.26-56-It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, while the sun's light failed; and the curtain of the temple was torn in two. Then Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, "Father, into your hands I commend my spirit." Having said this, he breathed his last.
Genesis 42-My money has been put back; here it is in my sack!
Psalm 33-By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and all their host by the breath of his mouth.
Luke 2.22-40-Master, now you are dismissing your servant in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel.
God's Word of the Day
I gave My Son's life for you.
Psalm of the Day
On that cross You took in all my sin.
You took on and became my sin.
On that cross, as my sin, You breathed Your last.
My sin died on that cross with Your last breath.
Your Spirit commended.
You rose again.
Your breath once again was given to me.
You breathe life into me.
You give me new life from death.
The breath of life, freely given.
The last breath of my sin, freely given.
My eyes have seen Your salvation.
Life put back in my sack.
All heavens made by Your breath.
Breath of Life.
Breathe on me.
Prayer of the Day
Speak Your Word through me today. Use Your breath of Life. Breathe on me and through me. I am Your servant. ---Amen

Jesu, Jesu, fill us with your love, show us how to serve the neighbors we have from you. Kneel at the feet of our friends, silently washing their feet: this is the way we will live with you. Psalm 31-Let your face shine upon your servant; save me in your steadfast love.
Hebrews 11.23-28-He considered abuse suffered for the Christ to be greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking ahead to the reward.

Psalm of the Day
Jesus, You show me how to serve.
You teach love and compassion.
You show me how to focus outward.
You place my focus on Your works of love and grace.
I will go with You now into Your Kingdom.
I will go with You as my mentor and guide.
I will go with You in trust to serve this Kingdom of Yours.
I will go and listen to Your interpretation.

You give will, compassion, committment and determination.
You make me able to stand when I want to fall down.
Yes! I will go! I'm ready!
Prayer of the Day
Jesus, You prepare me. I trust in Your preparation. I hear Your invitation. I'm ready to go serve with You. ---Amen

January 30th Daily Hymn, Readings, Word, Psalm and Prayer
Hymn of the Day
Lord of glory, you have bought us with your lifeblood as the price, never grudging for the lost ones that tremendous sacrifice. Give us faith to trust you boldly, hope to stay our souls on you: but, oh, best of all your graces, with your love our love renew. ("Lord of Glory, You Have Bought Us" - Text: Eliza S. Alderson, 1818-1889, alt.)
Readings of the Day
Luke 22.1-38-I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; for I tell you, I will not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
Genesis 39-And Joseph's master took him and put him into the prison, the place where the king's prisoners were confined; he remained there in prison. but the LORD was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love...
Psalm 30-Weeping may linger for the night, but joy comes with the morning.
Judges 7.12-22-So the three companies blew the trumpets and broke the jars, holding in their left hands the torches, and in their right hands the trumpets to blow; and they cried, "A sword for the LORD and for Gideon!" Every man stood in his place all around the camp, and all the men in camp ran; they cried out and fled.
God's Word of the Day
Let My Love live through you. I fulfill all love. I am with you in prison and through the night and will bring an awesome joy in the morning. Stand firm in Me and let My Love live through you.
Psalm of the Day
There's that pit again.
Sometimes I fall into the pit due to my own pride.
Other times, even when I'm being faithful, up jumps this pit.
I fall into the pit.
Why? Why, Lord why?
Now I know that it's not my good works that keeps me out of the pit.
What's the plan now?
But then I find You with me in the pit once again.
With me teaching me.
With me molding me into something.
Even here in this pit You are using me.
You feed me Your body and blood.
You sustain me with awesome bread and wine.
In this pit, You become a part of me.
Through the tears shed in this pit, You bring joy in the morning.
Through the tomb of death, You passed through stone to give morning Life to all.
So, this pit is nothing to You.
This pit is just another way for You to change me from death to life.
I give my life to You in this pit.
Take my life and kill me to myself.
Take my life and change me into the Life You want.
Set me up, strong and convicted and committed to You.
I take my stand for You.
In the pit or out of the pit, You are My Savior.
Thanks be to God!
Hear the trumpet sound!
See the Light shining brightly through the stone walls of the pit.
Shout for joy and the defeat of sin and death.
Break the jar of sin.
Watch the enemy collapse and fall.
There's that pit again.
There's My Savior!
Prayer of the Day
Lord, in the pit or out of the pit, You are with me. Use me, build me, give me courage to take a stand. In the pit or out of the pit, You are God! ---Amen

January 28th Daily Hymn, Readings, Word, Psalm and Prayer
Hymn of the Day
Cure your children's warring madness; bend our pride to your control; shame our wanton, selfish gladness rich in things and poor in soul. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage lest we miss your kingdom's goal, lest we miss your kingdom's goal. ("God of Grace and God of Glory" - Text: Harry E. Fosdick, 1878-1969)
Readings of the Day
Luke 20.27-47-Now he is God not of the dead, but of the living; for to him all of them are alive.
Genesis 37-So when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his robe, the long robe with sleeves that we wore; and they took him and threw him into a pit. The pit was empty; there was no water in it.
Psalm 28-To you, O LORD, I call; my rock, do not refuse to hear me, for if you are silent to me, I shall be like those who go down to the Pit.
Judges 6.11-24-Peace be to you; do not fear, you shall not die.
God's Word of the Day
You may be thrown into the pit, but do not fear. I come to draw you from the pit. You will not die, but I will pull you up and use you to My glory.
Psalm of the Day
Somehow, I manage to do it every time.
I get myself thrown into the pit.
Sometimes I walk right into that pit.
I know I deserve it.
But I hate this pit.
I hate this separation from You, Lord.
Pull me out of the pit.
Save me with Your gracious Love.
How I need You to pull me out of the pit.
I trust in You to save me and draw me out of this pit.
Save me from this war of mine.
Save me from my selfishness and pride.
Save me from myself.
Put my sinful, selfishness to death that I may once again live in You.
Somehow I manage to do this every time.
Pull me from this pit!
In You alone I place all trust and hope.
Pull me from this pit!
Prayer of the Day
Lord, save me and pull me from the pit. I hear Your call. I feel the fire in my belly to serve You. Pull me from the pit and use me this day, I pray. ---Amen

January 25th Daily Hymn, Readings, Word, Psalm and Prayer
Hymn of the Day
You, dear Lord, resplendent within our darkness: grant us, grant us your light. This night I follow in your footsteps, but cannot clearly behold your light. You, Lord, must guide us throughout our lifetime, throughout our lifetime to that clear light. You, dear Lord, resplendent within our darkness: grant us, grant us your light. ("You, Dear Lord" - Text: Anonymous; tr. Fred Pratt Green, 1903-2000)
Readings of the Day
Luke 19.1-27-He has gone to be the guest of one who is a sinner.
Genesis 32-33-The sun rose upon him as he passed Penuel, limping because of his hip.
Psalm 25-My eyes are ever toward the LORD, for he will pluck my feet out of the net.
Galatians 2.1-10-They asked only one thing, that we remember the poor, which was actually what I was eager to do.
God's Word of the Day
Keep your eyes focused on the Light. My Light will guide you through the darkness. My Light will take you forth when you get stuck.
Psalm of the Day
How I wrestle with You, Lord.
How I fight Your ways sometimes.
Defeat my selfishness and mark me with Your grace.
Give me the limp of Your Love in my walk.
Light my path with Your Light.
Keep my eyes focused on You and the Light.
Be with me as my guest.
Come to me, a sinner and save me.
Teach me love, compassion and to care for the poor.
How I wrestle with You, Lord.
How You come to me and save me!
Prayer of the Day
As we wrestle in Your Kingdom, give me correction, cause me to see Your Light and Your Way. Lead me and guide me and use me this day. ---Amen

January 23rd Daily Hymn, Readings, Word, Psalm and Prayer
Hymn of the Day
In our hymns we pray with longing: Grant us, blessed Trinity, at the last to keep glad Easter with the faithful saints on high; there to you forever singing alleluia joyfully. ("Alleluia, Song of Gladness" - Text:Latin hymn, 11th cent,; tr. John Mason Neale, 1818-1866, alt.)
Readings of the Day
Luke 18.1-17-People were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them; and when the disciples saw it, they sternly ordered them not to do it. But Jesus called for them and said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it."
Genesis 29.31-30.43-Then Jacob took fresh rods of poplar and almond and plane, and peeled white streaks in them, exposing the white of the rods. He set the rods that he had peeled in front of the flocks in the troughs, that is, the watering places, where the flocks came to drink, And since they bred when they came to drink, the flocks bred in front of the rods, and so the flocks produced young that were striped, speckled, and spotted.
Psalm 23-Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days on my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD my whole life long.
Matthew 9.14-17-Neither is new wine put into old wineskins; otherwise, the skins burst, and the wine is spilled, and the skins are destroyed; but new wine is put into fresh wineskins, and so both are preserved.
God's Word of the Day
I have been before your eyes all of your life. I have been here with you before you were born. Focus on My Glory. Focus on My Love. Focus on the cross. Focus on Me and I will recreate in you something new.
Psalm of the Day
I revel in Your eternal presence.
I glory in Your Love.
You welcome me as an infant into Your arms.
You gift me and call me Your own.
You baptize me with cleansing waters of joy out of Your love.
You stay before my eyes all my life long.
You bring peace and comfort when I'm weary.
You bring rest and fill my cup.
You bless me with Your saving body and blood.
You stay before my eyes at all times.
When I feel apart and alone...I turn.
I turn and find You were always there with me.
May I always run and jump and play with You in Your Kingdom.
Day after day in joy and thanksgiving, we serve.
Day after day out of the love You teach, we love.
Pour out the Love of Your Wine and Blood into these new wineskins.
Pour Your wine and fill me all my life-long.
From beginning to end be in me.
Stay before my eyes all through life's journey.
Prayer of the Day
I give You thanks for Your presence. From beginning to end and beyond, You are faithful and true. I love to have You always before my eyes. ---Amen

You know of my return and run to me.

Your love is amazing!
You run to me and save me from myself.
Then You show such great and awesome love.
You are truly the Lamb of God!
You are the sacrifice for my sin.
I just don't get it sometimes.
I sin and You break the yoke of my sin and set me free.

You gift me with Your Spirit and send me.
Send me out into the roads and lanes.
Send me out to witness to Your Love.
You compel people to come to You.
And then You come to them.
You come and grant full Life.
You come and radiate Your Light for all to see.
Prayer of the Day
You save-You call-You gift-You call ---I go in joy! ---Amen
Then grant that I may follow your gleam, O glorious Light, till earthly shadows scatter, and faith is changed to sight; till raptured saints shall gather upon that shining shore, where Christ, the blessed daystar, shall light them evermore. ("O Lord, Now Let Your Servant" – Text: Ernest E. Ryden, 1886-1981, alt., based on the Nunc dimittis)

January 17th Daily Hymn, Readings, Word, Psalm and Prayer
Hymn of the Day
Jesus come! Surprise our dullness, make us willing to receive more than we can yet imagine, all the best you have to give: let us find your hidden riches, taste your love, believe, and live! ("Jesus, Come! For We Invite You" – Text: Christopher Idle, b.1938)
Readings of the Day
Luke 13.18-35-Listen, I am casting out demons and performing cures today and tomorrow, and on the third day I finish my work.
Genesis 24-Do not delay me, since the LORD has made my journey successful; let me go that I may go to my master.
Psalm 17-…when I awake I shall be satisfied, beholding your likeness.
Galatians 1.6-12-For I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel that was proclaimed by me is not of human origin; for I did not receive it from a human source, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ.
God’s Word of the Day
My Son Jesus, reveals the Gospel to you. He comes to you and lives with and in you revealing Himself to you day by day.
Psalm of the Day
What a surprise You always are to me, Jesus.
You come to me each and every day and stay with me.
In the good times and through the bad You are by my side.
You give me so much more than I could ever expect.
Your blessings and hidden riches are way out there!
Daily I taste Your love and believe in You.
You caste out my demons and cleanse my sin and heal me along the way.
You send me on journeys and call me and gift me.
I love to go out for You and to return to You.
Each morning when I wake and can’t wait to greet You at my door.
Each day in our journey in Your Kingdom You reveal Your glory.
What a wonderful surprise You always are to me, Jesus!
Prayer of the Day
I love Your surprises, Lord! I love You! ---Amen

My Walk with Jesus the week of January 14th
Comment: The past couple of weeks I have been involved with a group at my church Epiphany Lutheran Church where a group of us have been walking and contemplating towards a combined walking mileage to Jerusalem in preparation for Lent. Along the way we reflect on particular items. This past week I have been hospitalized and wrote this special reflection.
I was hospitalized this past week for a third bout with Crohn’s in the past few months and a second bout bringing with it a bowel obstruction in the past two weeks. From Sunday until at least now early Thursday morning, I did little to no physical walking whatsoever.
However, there was much walking taking place.
As I reflect on the Journey of the Magi towards Jesus years ago and compare and contrast some traveling that I felt take place this week to this time early in the morning of Thursday; I stop and reflect. No, Magi travelling from the east didn’t visit me. However Jesus visited me through his walking to me in many and various ways. I dare to estimate that Jesus walking for me at least amounted to hundreds of miles but in reality maybe even an infinite number of miles. You see, this week, Jesus has walked to me.
I noticed the pain of an oncoming attack right about lunchtime after church on Sunday. In an attempt to sleep it off that failed, I turned to my wife, Sue for help. A call to the doctor then a trip to the hospital.
Jesus walked to me and with me as my wife, Sue, graciously took me to the emergency room of Atrium Medical Center around 7pm. Sue, and various ER nurses walked with me and to me in the ER to relieve pain, to transport my bed, to take x-rays and to bring comfort. Jesus walking in the shoes of various loving, working, people taking care of me while I was in pain easily rating that ten they ask about. Jesus coming to me to take blood tests. Jesus steering my bed through the hallways to the hospital room.
Jesus coming to me to care for the IV’s and the tube running into my stomach to relieve pressure. Jesus was visiting me each morning through Dr. Stone and each afternoon through Dr. Sharma. Jesus walking to me through countless hours of the night, checking my blood pressure, my temperature, my sugar levels and so many other things I can’t even recall. Jesus was coming to me each day through Ray Cary and a Hospital Chaplain with prayer. Jesus coming to me as I reflected, prayed and studied my Bible. Jesus walking to my bedside in Psalms I wrote while in bed. Jesus walking by my side and feeling the pain I felt and knowing what I was going through. Jesus walking to me in phone calls from friends at work, from friends from home and from my friend and boss Mark Eads with care and comfort in this down time of mine. Jesus speaks me through John Payne through his telephone calls. Jesus came to me in cards from friends Sylvia and Hans Lenski and the Women of the ELCA. Jesus speaking to me through my Mother over the phone. Jesus coming to me in my family, Bryan, Sarah, Stephanie, Devin, Becky, Connie and Jesus especially walking to me in my new granddaughter Kaiya with her peaceful smiles and her relaxing careless sleep in my arms. Jesus walking to me each day through my wife Sue. Jesus walking to me through Nurses, and PCA’s and so many caregivers it’s hard for me to recall all of them. Jesus walking to me in Nurses in training from Sinclair. Jesus walking with me in the halls to tests and procedures.
Did I walk this week? I know so. You see, I walked with Jesus by my side this entire week. Jesus walked with me through the pain and in the recovery showing me how he heals from the inside out. Jesus comes to me, walking side by side and then into my heart. Jesus walked straight into my heart to begin the healing process from the inside out. Jesus was travelling much further than those Magi from the east. Jesus walking steadily beyond space and into my very being, calling me His child and loving me as His own. Jesus on that infinite walk of miles into my heart and soul showing me a compassion and love beyond any comprehension of my human understanding. Jesus walking to me calling me and teaching me a compassion and love that He wishes all of us to let go from the inside out. Healing from the inside out through His walk to me.
Sure, I walked this week. Many many miles. But what counts more than anything that I ever walked is that Jesus walked countless miles to and for me. And in this walk I give Him all thanks and praise.
And as I reflect on this Lenten-walking journey, I think of one more walk Jesus took in His pain and for all of us. Jesus walked the streets of Jerusalem dragging that cross as far as he could to die for me and for you, and give His life for yours and mine. You see Jesus became our sin on that cross and put that sin to death. In the giving of His life, in the death, Jesus brought Life to the entire world. So in this walk this week, I give my life. I know I will experience pain, but I know Jesus knows what that pain is and I gladly die to myself knowing of a Love and Compassion that brings Life from death.
Thanks be to God! And thanks be to Jesus for His walk into my life and into my heart even in the midst of pain.
Now I know how to walk in love and compassion for others.

January 13th Daily Hymn, Readings, Word, Psalm and Prayer
Hymn of the Day
What joy to know, when life is past, the Lord we love is first and last, the end and the beginning! He will one day, oh, glorious grace, transport us to that happy place beyond all tears and sinning! Amen! Amen! Come, Lord Jesus! Crown of gladness! We are yearning for the day of your returning. ("O Morning Star, How Fair and Bright" - Text:Philipp Nicolai, 1556-1608; tr, Lutheran Book of Worship)
--- --- ---
Readings of the Day
Luke 11.29-54-Your eye is the lamp of your body. If your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light; but if it is not healthy, your body is full of darkness. Therefore consider whether the light in you is not darkness. If then your whole body is full of light, with no part of it in darkness, it will be as full of light as when a lamp gives your light with its rays.
Genesis 20-But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night...
Psalm 13-Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep the sleep of death...But I trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation.
Matthew 3.13-17-And when Jesus had been baptized, just as he come up from the water, suddenly the heavens were opened to him and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. and a voice from heaven said, "This is my son, the Beloved, with whom I am will pleased."
--- --- ---
God's Word of the Day
I will fill you with My Light. I have come. Trust in My salvation. Trust in My Light.
--- --- ---
Prayer of the Day
I yearn for Your coming.
You are the first and the last, the beginning and eternal.
I yearn for Your Light to fill my heart.
Wake me up and let me see the Light You shine into my eyes.
Let Your Light illumine my heart so all can see Your Light in me.
Chase the darkness of sin from my center.
Replace my darkness with Your glorious Light.
I die to my darkness and You replace that darkness with Your Light.
How I love the Light!
In dreams You protect me and guide me.
You show me the way with Your Light.
You are Light!
You are Salvation!
Jesus, my Light and my Salvation.
Send now Your Spirit and let Your Light shine!
--- --- ---
Prayer of the Day
Jesus, my Light, my Salvation. I yearn for Your coming. Come and fill me with Your Light. ---Amen

January 12th Daily Hymn, Readings, Word, Psalm and Prayer
Hymn of the Day
Light shone in darkness at the world's creation, bathing in beauty nature's revelation. All that has being cry in adoration, "Praise for the light. Amen!" ("Light Shone in Darkness" - Text:Delores Dufner, OSB, b. 1939)
--- --- ---
Readings of the Day
Luke 11.1-28-While he was saying this, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, "Blessed is the womb that bore you and the breasts that nursed you!" But he said, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it!"
Genesis 19-But he lingered; so the men seized him and his wife and his two daughters by the hand, the LORD being merciful to him, and they brought him out and left him outside the city.
Psalm 12-On every side the wicked prowl, as vileness is exalted among humankind.
Psalm 29-The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty.
--- --- ---
God's Word of the Day
I bring Light into your dark and sinful world. I bring Light into your dark and sinful being. I create something new. Hear My voice full of majesty.
--- --- ---
Psalm of the Day
Lord, I'm surrounded by evil.
I'm surrounded by evil and wickedness in this world.
I'm surrounded by sin without and sin within.
Rescue me from what is around me.
Rescue me from what is within me.
Bring Light to my darkness.
Bathe my dark world with the Light of Your salvation.
Be merciful, Lord!
Wash me clean of my sin and evil.
Create a safe path for me to travel in this sinful world.
Give me the courage to stand for Your way.
Grant me the perseverance I need to survive.
I can only make it through this with You.
I can't do this on my own!
I need You!
Your voice is powerful.
Your voice is majestic.
Let Your voice ring true and clear that I may hear You.
Let Your saving grace keep me safe in time of trouble.
Lead me through temptation and save me.
Praise for the Light!
Praise for the Voice!
Amen!

He came to share temptation, our utmost woe and loss, for us and our salvation to die upon the cross. So when the dove descended on him, the Son of Man, the hidden years had ended, the age of grace began. ("When Jesus Came to Jordan" - Text:Susan Palo Cherwien, b. 1953)

Psalm of the Day
Jesus, I know how You faced temptation.
You show me what to do.
Only with You can I face my sin.
You have come near to me.
You shine Your bright light on my sin.

January 8th Daily Hymn, Readings, Word, Psalm and Prayer
Hymn of the Day
Vainly we offer each ample oblation, vainly with gifts would his favor secure; richer by far is the heart's adoration, dearer to God are the prayers of the poor.
--- --- ---
Readings of the Day
Luke 9.1-27-Then he said to them all, "If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me, For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will save it. What does it profit them if they gain the whole world, but lose or forfeit themselves?"
Genesis 15-"Look toward heaven and count the stars, if you are able to count them."
Psalm 8-When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established; what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them?
1 Kings 10.14-25-The whole earth sought the presence of Solomon to hear his wisdom, which God had put into his mind.
--- --- ---
God's Word of the Day
I AM so much greater than you could ever imagine. Look to the stars and ponder creation. Look to the earth and see the detail. You could never give me enough. I seek you to give Me yourself, humble and poor as you are. I created you unique and perfect for what I have planned. I place my gifts within in you. Now use them to My glory.
--- --- ---
Psalm of the Day
Why are You mindful of me?
When I look to the stars and see the greatness of creation, I wonder...
Why are You mindful of me?
When I look to the earth and see the detail of your creation, I wonder...
Why are You mindful of me?
I could never shower enough gifts on You to satisfy.
Why are You mindful of me?
Yet You treasure the prayers of the poor.
Why are You mindful of me?
I adore Your glory and power and might.
Why are You mindful of me?
You tell me to deny myself and follow you.
Why are You mindful of me?
You beckon me to take up my cross and follow You.
Why are You mindful of me?
You gift me with unique gifts to be used to Your glory.
Why are You mindful of me?
I lose myself to You.
With eternal thanks, I'm so glad, You are mindful of me!
--- --- ---
Prayer of the Day
God of all creation. God of this universe. I'm so glad You are mindful of me. It's beyond what I can fathom. I give my life to You. I take up this wonderful gift and cross and gladly follow You. ---Amen

January 7th Daily Hymn, Readings, Word, Psalm and Prayer
Hymn of the Day
Holy Jesus, every day keep us in the narrow way; and when earthly things are past, bring our ransomed souls at last where they need no star to guide, where
no clouds thy glory hide. ("As with Gladness Men of Old" - Text:William C. Dix,1837-1898, alt.)
Readings of the Day
Luke 8.26-56-Return to your home, and declare how much God has done for you.
Genesis 13-14-Now the Valley of Siddim was full of bitumen pits; and as the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, some fell into them, and the rest fled to the hill country.
Psalm 7-They make a pit, digging it out, and fall into the hole that they have made.
1 Kings 10.1-13-...but I did not believe the reports until I came and my own eyes had seen it.
God's Word of the Day
I will lead you and guide you to Me. Actually I find you, you do not find Me. Be careful of the tar pits and the traps you build yourself along the way. I will show Myself to you. You will know Me with your own eyes.
Psalm of the Day
I build some traps in my life and fall into them myself.
How foolish I am!
I try to trap another and end up trapping myself!
I run from the battle and fall into the tar pits.
How foolish I am!
I know that You are with me in the battle.
Yet sometimes I run.
Sometimes I don't trust in Your presence.
Forgive my unbelief.
You show me the way to You.
You light the narrow path I am to follow.
Help me to go the way You wish for me to go.
Help me to come to You by the path You have chosen for me to come.
I know that You are really the one who comes to me.
I know that only through You am I saved.
Yet You take me down this path.
You lead me to Yourself.
And I learn that along that path to You...
You were with me all the way.
And in the end you will bring me to Yourself.
A ransomed soul at last.
Thanks be to God!
But for now...
I follow that Light.
I follow that path.
I do Your will.
I walk Your way.
I believe with my own eyes.
I run to return and tell of a Mighty Savior.
Prayer of the Day
I'm so glad You have made life a journey for me. By the tar pits. Through my own traps. Lead and guide me on Your narrow way. Lead me through this life. Ransom my soul along the way. You are my Savior. You are my God! ---Amen

Hymn of the Day
This star drew near to the northwest, over Bethlehem it took its rest; and there it did both stop and stay right over the place where Jesus lay. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel! Born is the King of Israel. ("The First Noel" - Text:English Traditional)
Readings of the Day
Luke 7.18-50-"Therefore, I tell you, her sins, which were many, have been forgiven; hence she has shown great love. But the one to whom little is forgiven, loves little." Then he said to her, "Your sins are forgiven."
Genesis 11-"Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves..."
Psalm 5-O LORD, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I plead my case to you, and watch.
Psalm 72-For he delivers the needy when they call, and the poor and those who have no helper.
God's Word of the Day
I wany you to point to My Son Jesus. Point your light to His Light. Show the world what He has done for you in your life.
Psalm of the Day
Make me that star that rests over the place of Jesus.
Make my life lead others to see Jesus presence.
Use me to point to the Savior of all the world.
Use me to show and tell what Jesus has done for me.
Let me never believe that it's about me, that I can build myself a tower to heaven.
Let me show the world that it's all about how Jesus came down to us.
Came down to be one of us and save us.
He delivers the needy when they call and helps the poor when in need.
How I know that you have forgiven me much.
How I rejoice in what You do for me.
Make me that star that rests over the place of Jesus.
Prayer of the Day
Lord, may my life point to You, my Lord and Savior. It's all about You! ---Amen
---Amen
