July 16th - Reflection

Ephesians 3:14-21 (NRSV)
The love of Christ surpasses knowledge

For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth takes its name. I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love. I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Reflection
How do we I begin to understand or comprehend God's love. I'm not sure I could take it if I knew the the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge. I don't think I can understand this, nor am I sure that I want to.

No doubt, I appreciate this love that God has shown me through Jesus, but I don't think I want to understand it. But then this may not be my choice. It may be that God wants me to understand this love. It may be that God places this love in me so that I can understand God's love.

It may be that God's love is what grounds me in faith. It may be that God chooses and calls me to show that same love to my neighbor and my enemies. It may be that God gifts me with the abilities and the faith to act out of this love in the world in which I have been placed. It may be and it will be the actions I will take out of the grace of faith I have been called to. It will be my joy. Thanks be to God!

Prayer
Lord, I know that I can't at this time begin to understand your love, but you are working with me. Please continue in this work as I live out my faith to your calling. --- Amen
