November 23rd - Reflection
Isaiah 33:17-22 (NRSV)
Our God rules
Your eyes will see the king in his beauty;
they will behold a land that stretches far away.
Your mind will muse on the terror:
"Where is the one who counted?
Where is the one who weighed the tribute?
Where is the one who counted the towers?"
No longer will you see the insolent people,
the people of an obscure speech that you cannot comprehend,
stammering in a language that you cannot understand.
Look on Zion, the city of our appointed festivals!
Your eyes will see Jerusalem,
a quiet habitation, an immovable tent,
whose stakes will never be pulled up,
and none of whose ropes will be broken.
But there the Lord in majesty will be for us
a place of broad rivers and streams,
where no galley with oars can go,
nor stately ship can pass.
For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our ruler,
the Lord is our king; he will save us.
Reflection
As you walk through the wilderness of life; look forward to the horizon. If you follow too closely the path that your feet trod, your gaze will become focused on the pain, terror, and troubles of the current time. Look forward to the horizon and see off in the distance, the king in his beauty. Look forward to the horizon and you will see Christ.
Pause for a moment and reflect on the past and the current. Reflect on the blessings you have received along the way. Pause and reflect on the journey. Reflect on the terror and pain. Reflect, and realize your presence. Then look side to side, and you will see Jesus. Jesus, that beautiful King, on the horizon and in the present. Jesus, that beautiful King, trod this same path, past and present and future. Jesus, the King, leading and coaching, and guiding you to that place on the horizon with the broad rivers and streams that are safe from all harm.
Our Lord is our King and he will save us. Thanks be to God!
Prayer
Lord, in this moment, I give you thanks for your presence, your guidance, your majesty and your glory. You are my King, today, tomorrow and forever. Only you can save me. --- Amen
