Isaiah 27:1-6 (NRSV)
God will save Israel the vine
On that day the Lord with his cruel and great and strong sword will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan the twisting serpent, and he will kill the dragon that is in the sea.
On that day:
A pleasant vineyard, sing about it!
I, the Lord, am its keeper;
every moment I water it.
I guard it night and day
so that no one can harm it;
I have no wrath.
If it gives me thorns and briers,
I will march to battle against it.
I will burn it up.
Or else let it cling to me for protection,
let it make peace with me,
let it make peace with me.
In days to come Jacob shall take root,
Israel shall blossom and put forth shoots,
and fill the whole world with fruit.
Reflection
God's anger is with those thorns that overtake his children, persuade them to abandon God, and those nations that would reconcile with his children in order to take them from God.
Our God is a jealous God. Jesus gave his life in order that we may have life. God will defend his people and protect them that are faithful. He will care for us and bring forth wonderful blossoms and fruit that his people may flourish.
Sing about it!
Prayer
Lord, I give thanks for your justice and faithfulness to my growth and the growth of your children. Tend to me that my faith may grow and I may serve you faithfully in love for you and for all... today... tomorrow... and forever. --- Amen
