January 14th - Reflection

Acts 1:1-5 (NRSV)
The promise of the Holy Spirit

In the first book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus did and taught from the beginning until the day when he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. After his suffering he presented himself alive to them by many convincing proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. While staying with them, he ordered them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there for the promise of the Father. "This," he said, "is what you have heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now."

Reflection
Jesus stayed with them. And Jesus stays with us also. Jesus continues on showing proofs. Do we see those proofs though. I think in many of the rich nations of this world, we take the proofs of Jesus' presence for granted and miss those proofs. If you look around daily you can see seeds of love that have been planted within people, communities, churches, businesses, nature, and even our pets. Love that comes to fruition.

The faithful dog, the caring words from a friend, a helping hand at the grocery store, a nod in traffic, serving at a food line, giving money to a cause, those prayers and e-mails sent, a visit to the hospital for someone, a snowflake falling, and even a bird feeding. These are all miracles of the seeds of love God has freely given and blessed us with that we miss and take for granted. We need to slow down. There is no panic or hurry in eternity.

Live and love the life God has given you. After all you and I are living in the grace of God. What more could we be thankful for. Live for Jesus, love one another and wait. Something better is coming. Wait for the promise of the Father. The Father has always kept his promises and always will. You will be baptized with the Holy Spirit! Thanks be to God!

Prayer
Lord, blow you Spirit of love and compassion and fire into my life as I wait for you. Lead me in proclaiming boldly your gospel story that all may turn to believe, love and live in you...today...tomorrow...and forever. --- Amen
