January 7th - Reflection
Ephesians 3:14-21 (NRSV)
Knowing the love of Christ
For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth takes its name. I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love. I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
Reflection
God has made himself known by coming to this earth in the form of flesh and spirit. Jesus is God incarnate. But even more so God in flesh has come not only to this world in a corporate sense in that he comes to everyone as one. God has come into this world in a personal sense. A very personal sense. God has come into your heart in Jesus. Your heart being the very center of your being, perhaps even the bowels, could be said. The bowels, where you digest and take in and make your own the elements of this world. Jesus comes into your heart and forms a close relationship with you. God has come! God has come to you and is active in you and is filling you with his fullness. All so that you may begin to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
God has come into this world and God has come into you. Thanks be to God!
Prayer
Lord, fill me with you love. Fill me from the inside out that you love may flow through me to all you give to me this day. Fill this world with your love so that groups of people have the compassion that only you can give. Bring us together as one in your unique and special way. --- Amen
