November 12th Reflection by Bill Lynch

Isaiah 65:17–25
The Glorious New Creation

For I am about to create new heavens
   and a new earth;
the former things shall not be remembered
   or come to mind.
But be glad and rejoice for ever
   in what I am creating;
for I am about to create Jerusalem as a joy,
   and its people as a delight.
I will rejoice in Jerusalem,
   and delight in my people;
no more shall the sound of weeping be heard in it,
   or the cry of distress.
No more shall there be in it
   an infant that lives but a few days,
   or an old person who does not live out a lifetime;
for one who dies at a hundred years will be considered a youth,
   and one who falls short of a hundred will be considered accursed.
They shall build houses and inhabit them;
   they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
They shall not build and another inhabit;
   they shall not plant and another eat;
for like the days of a tree shall the days of my people be,
   and my chosen shall long enjoy the work of their hands.
They shall not labour in vain,
   or bear children for calamity;
for they shall be offspring blessed by the Lord—
   and their descendants as well.
Before they call I will answer,
   while they are yet speaking I will hear.
The wolf and the lamb shall feed together,
   the lion shall eat straw like the ox;
   but the serpent—its food shall be dust!
They shall not hurt or destroy
   on all my holy mountain,
says the Lord.

Reflection
Yes, we look towards the end, the end when God creates everything new once again. A creation no longer poisoned by my sin our your sin. A creation that lives in harmony with God and with itself. We look towards that city in which we will all gather as one and rejoice in the perfection of God's creation. We are walking towards this creation as we follow Jesus as his disciples. We walk and gather together in this sin filled place and live in the hope of what will be.

Old sins will be healed and differences reconciled. What seems as a long time to us now will be but a breath in this new creation. In this new Jerusalem the wicked and the evil will no longer flourish and grow, rather they will be judged and eliminated. The sinner-saint will be judged and victorious through Jesus saving grace for all who he comes to save. All of this beauty brought to reality through the King of Life, Jesus Christ, our Lord and our Savior.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, as I follow you and watch the path that you take, I can see ahead of you that wonderful city. I can see the change of that horrible city, Jerusalem in which you bled and died for all people to a wonderful city where all has been recreated into what you desire. Lead me in the hope of this trip as I walk with you in the here and now. Lead me through the pain, the tears, the mourning and the illness to that wonderful city only you could lead us towards. For you are the King of Life, you are the Savior of all, you are the way to a new creation of Life. I follow you... today... tomorrow... and forever. --- Amen
