November 19th Reflection - Hear the Call - by Bill Lynch

Luke 1:68-79
‘Blessed be the Lord God of Israel,
for he has looked favourably on his people and redeemed them.
He has raised up a mighty saviour for us
in the house of his servant David,
as he spoke through the mouth of his holy prophets from of old,
that we would be saved from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us.
Thus he has shown the mercy promised to our ancestors,
and has remembered his holy covenant,
the oath that he swore to our ancestor Abraham,
to grant us that we, being rescued from the hands of our enemies,
might serve him without fear, in holiness and righteousness
   before him all our days.
And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High;
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways,
to give knowledge of salvation to his people
by the forgiveness of their sins.
By the tender mercy of our God,
the dawn from on high will break upon us,
to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the way of peace.’

Reflection - Hear the Call
Here is a song of prophecy from Zechariah upon the birth of John the Baptist. A song that proclaims the works of John. Works that tell all the world of the Messiah. For it is John who will announce the coming of God in flesh into this world to save all people from sin, death and the devil. John will proclaim the coming of the King of the Universe. John will sing the song of that new beginning to take place with and in the people through God in the flesh of Jesus. Here we hear tell of John's call and mission in this life as God would have called John. And John is obedient. John proclaims the coming and follows Jesus even though he was before Jesus.

Don't we all. We are after Jesus yet Jesus was before us. We follow Jesus and hear our unique call in this world, in the moment, in this vocation, in this location; we are called to action as disciples of Jesus to proclaim the glory of God to all that God chooses to give to us, and in the situation that God chooses to place us at this time. Hear and listen for your call, moment by moment, day by day and respond in love, joy and thanksgiving to all that God has blessed you with through God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

Yes! Rejoice in the call and act boldly.

Prayer
Lord, you alone are the King of me... you alone lead me and guide me and call me and place me just where you would have me be. As I respond to the call you give this day give me the words that bring glory and honor to you... today... tomorrow... and forever. --- Amen
