A Great Change - Matthew 24:36-44 - First Week of Advent

Matthew 24:36-44 NIV

36 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 40 Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.

42 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.

A Great Change

You know, Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives speaking to, and teaching, His disciples at the time these words were said. Was He looking out over the people in the city thinking about them and how His coming now to His suffering, crucifixion, death, resurrection and ascension were about to take place? Was Jesus looking at the people He came to save, thinking of how He was coming to them and had come to them from heaven? Did Jesus look from the Mount of Olives and have compassion? Maybe He really saw a couple women grinding at the mill and thought about how He would come to them, now and in the future. Maybe He saw the owner of a house, from His perch on the Mount of Olives and thought about how His coming would be sudden and unexpected. Oh, how much Jesus wants all of us, there in His time and throughout all time to look forward to His coming into their very beings and His coming again after His ascension back to heaven.

There is a big change happening. God has come to this earth, became and lived as a human, and will now suffer and die as a human. God descended from heaven to be a man and now will ascend to heaven AS a man. All for the love of mankind. A love that will draw all believers in God back to Him once again, as it was always intended to be, to be with God, in His Kingdom, as mankind, in eternity.

So… Keep your eye on Jesus. Jesus IS God. Jesus brings about A Great Change!

In this passage of Scripture and Teaching of Jesus from the Mount of Olives to His disciples, Jesus tells us that a BIG change is on the way. Expect change. Look forward to this God change. Embrace this change from God. It IS Jesus coming.

Acts 1:7 NIV

He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.

Don’t be so enamored with this world that you fail to be ready for the next. Don’t be eating and gnawing, like an animal at the pleasures of this world, that you lose yourself to it. This IS ignorance ON purpose!

When the time for Jesus coming is too late, there is no escape. You did it to yourself. But to those taken by God in Jesus in this world, here and now, and in the future when Jesus returns to draw us to Him in a new world; there IS protection. This coming of Jesus, at any time now and at any time to come, IS God’s Gift!

As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives; was He looking at women grinding meal?

May I too, hear God’s Word in what my eyes see, near at hand. A Great Change IS near. A great gathering is coming. Jesus comes in both the common ways of life AND the eternal WAY of Life.

Being ignorant of the time of Jesus coming to you and to all, is no excuse. As you work at the mill stone, EXPECT the Great Change, and glory in that Change. This IS the Kingdom of God, here NOW and in Eternity as well. Get excited about it!

Yes! You’ve been warned. Jesus WILL and HAS come. Be ready for it. It’s a SURE thing, one way or another.

Let Jesus teach you. Let Jesus lead you. Yes, Jesus judges us AND changes us.

So, it’s now time for you too to “Set Your Face Like Flint” to travel with Jesus, now and forever. Yes, put on Jesus and live FOR Him, and NOT for the flesh of this world.

Come, Lord Jesus, Come… today… tomorrow… and forever. --- Amen
