August 31st People Reflection

Wednesday 8/31/2005

John 8.48-59-I tell you for certain that even before Abraham was, I was, and I am.

2 Chronicles 5.2-14-Suddenly a cloud filled the temple…the LORD’s glory was in that cloud

Malachi 2.10-16-Didn’t the one God create each of us?

Acts 27.9-26-a wind…we gave way to it and were driven.

Ezekiel 37.1-14-Thus says the Lord God to these bones: I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live.

Psalm 62-He alone is my rock and my salvation

"What was your favorite toy while growing up?"—Not sure if those were the exact words- but it’s close- so I thought- hmm—I’m still growing up – so that includes all time- but does it include the time before I was born?- makes me think of what Jesus was telling the people of his day- even before Abraham was, I was, and I am—well no wonder they picked up some stones to kill Jesus—this was a little too much for them to comprehend- Jesus had gone too far- did he think he was God or something? – when was Jesus growing up- did he grow up before he was born? – what about creation?- Malachi questioned – Didn’t the one God create each of us? – does all that mean that Jesus was there at creation- I think so- even from what the book of John says about the Word – the Flesh – then God in the cloud of the temple- the breath in the dry bones- God gave life to bones which had already lived life- died and decayed to bones God gave life to them once again- even though the people of those bones time was up so to speak- and then God in the wind – the wind speaking to Elijah – the wind of the early church- the wind in Paul’s life and trip driving him to his destination- a destination unknown- yea- God is mysterious- but God is also the solid firm rock of salvation – beyond time- beyond space- beyond comprehension—"What was your favorite toy while growing up?" – Mine happened to have been a big wooden box of big blocks- I could build them up and tear them down and build them back up again—throughout all time I think God has been building those blocks back up- then when my sin tears them down- God lovingly builds me back up again- blows a little breath in- gives his Spirit to me to gently lead me in the direction he wants me to go and off I am- once again filled with the cloud of his grace and living the life God intends for me in his kingdom- free to play with my favorite toys and free to love God and all his people in his kingdom—"What was your favorite toy while growing up?" – I’m not sure the toy matters really – I think it was the play that mattered more than the toy and the activity of God in my life while I play with my favorite toy.

Prayer- Jesus, play with me today- you bring your favorite toy and I’ll bring mine- let’s go outside and play – let’s have some fun today in your kingdom- and while we play blow the Spirit of life into my life and into the lives of those playmates we meet this day- for in you and you alone I trust in salvation. Mom! – I’m going out to play! I’m going to wherever the wind blows me. -- Amen

August 30th People Reflection

Tuesday 8/30/2005

John 8.21-47-If you don’t have faith in me for who I am, you will die, and your sins will not be forgiven.

2 Chronicles 2.17-5.1-Care and craftsmanship were used in building and furnishing the temple

Malachi 1.1-2.9-offer your best to God

Acts 26.24-27.8-You are out of your mind, Paul!

1 Kings 3.6-15-although I am only a little child

Psalm 119.169-176-Let my cry come before you, O LORD; give me understanding according to your word.

"You’re going to have to stand in the parking lot and give us reports."—That’s about me- teasing because the Global Security Center at GE told us to dust off our flood plans because of Katrina—well I would be the one standing in the rain in the parking lot reporting on conditions outside- funny – reminds me of how they must of thought about Paul—are you out of your mind! – but Paul wasn’t out of his mind- he was preparing people for a different kind of event- an event in their lives when Jesus would meet them – when Jesus would come to them just like or very similar to how Jesus came to Paul- and their lives would change- suddenly in mid-life they would become children once again- starting all over but in a fast paced growth of love and faith in Jesus- they would suddenly be working for Jesus- offering their best to him- having faith in Jesus and feeling release from sin- a new life- the hurricane of change would blow through them- they would report the changes to the outside world from within the storm of their own lives- they would report to others with their baptismal waters stinging their face but also washing them clean from sin all at the same time- they would appear to be out of their minds as they stand in the hurricane of their lives and report about the love and the light and the freedom given to them by Jesus act of saving grace- they would cry to God for understanding of his Word and direction in their lives—and when the hurricane of that loving Spirit of change ends – their lives will be taken apart and all will begin new- fresh- renewed- what a report we have to give about each Christian life- each one unique- each one special- "You’re going to have to stand in the parking lot and give us reports." – OK—I’m ready now.

Prayer- Lord, thank you for the story you give me to tell- thank you for being in my life- for leading me – for guiding me- help me to see and hear the direction you would have me to take- and make me bold enough to report your saving grace to a world hungry for love and light and salvation. -- Amen

August 29th People Reflection

Monday 8/20/05

John 8.1-20-I am not going to accuse you either.

2 Chronicles 1.1-2.16-no one can ever build a temple large enough for God

Zechariah 14-It will be a bright day that won’t turn cloudy

Acts 26.1-23-I have appeared to you for this purpose

Romans 3.21-26-because in his divine forbearance he had passed over the sins previously committed

Psalm 130-my soul waits for the LORD

"I won’t charge you for this."—A statement from a clerk at Krogers yesterday- a product they were supposed to have and didn’t- something else was substituted- Jesus tells a woman that he won’t accuse her either- but to go and sin no more- Jesus love is beyond the boundaries of sin- Jesus knows of all our sin- but he isn’t about sin- he is about love- a love so large – God has a love for his people- he chooses to dwell with us- but we try to put him in a box- put him in a tent- put him in a temple- knowing that there isn’t a temple large enough to contain him- his love is so large we could never contain it- seems like I am always trying to draw lines around Jesus or God- define him- define right and wrong- but I’m starting to think now- how can I do that? – his love is way beyond my silly decisions- my focus can’t be on drawing lines around God- or even building temples to contain him – Jesus appeared for a purpose- he came for a purpose- not to accuse- not to draw the lines- not to be contained in a temple- he chose to passover my sins and move beyond all that law and free me from those very sins- to break out of that temple – to cross those lines I place in life and free me to live in his kingdom – to serve him in joy- to follow him- to listen to his voice – and to go from the death of my sin and the temple’s I have created to life in him. It’s a hard thing to grasp- I don’t know if I ever will.

Prayer- Lord, teach me this day to see your way- to hear your Words- to follow your path- forgive my sin and erase the lines I have drawn- tear down the temple I have created to contain you and let me see your love. -- Amen

August 28th People Reflection

Sunday 8/28/2005

John 7.25-52-Have faith in me, and you will have life-giving water flowing from deep inside you

1 Chronicles 29-But why should we be happy that we have given you these gifts? They belong to you, and we have only given back what is already yours.

Zechariah 13-You are my people—You, LORD are our God!

Matthew 16.21-28-take up your cross and follow

Matthew 6.25-34-strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well

Psalm 104.24-28-when you open your hand, they are filled with good things

"Does anyone want to volunteer?"- An Adult Education teachers meeting- which classes to teach – which to turn down- when are you over committed? – God gives us the gifts – the abilities to do his work- they belong to him to begin with – then we turn around and give it all back to him – trusting and having faith in that ever-flowing stream of water that comes forth from God- that water that feeds us along the way- the Holy Spirit that guides us and leads us- that helps us as we carry our cross into the world and do the work God has sent us to do- but we have to keep our focus- we have to keep our center and all things we need will be given to us- yea- including those human things we need- all we need to stay alive- when we open our hands God fills them with good things- "Does anyone want to volunteer?" – yea- I’m glad to give back to God what he first gave me and love him all along the way- God is good and gracious and very providing.

Prayer- Thank you Lord for all you give to me- everything I need for mind, body and soul- everything. You are good and gracious and I give you all the thanks and praise. Today I will thank you all day long for all the wonderful gifts you give- open my eyes to see your bounteous gifts along the way --- Amen

August 27th People Reflection

Saturday 8/27/2005

John 7.1-24-Don’t judge by appearances. Judge by what is right.

1 Chronicles 27-28-Be confident, and never be afraid of anything or get discouraged.

Zechariah 12-the LORD All-Powerful is my God and source of strength

Romans 12.9-21-Let love be genuine

1 Corinthians 15.53-57-Death has been swallowed up in victory

Psalm 13-I trust in your steadfast love

"Just send the whole team after #5."- A little running back from the opposing team at the football game Friday evening. He was only 5’7"—in some strange way it made me think of the passage from John- Don’t judge by appearances – and also- be confident- don’t get discouraged—He didn’t start out all that well in the first quarter—buy by the second quarter he was cookin!- He knew where his source of strength came from I guess—I think I need to remember this – when life offers chances to judge others- watch out- don’t go by what’s on the surface – look a little deeper- look closer to the soul- look closer to what God would have me look at- look at the beauty throughout and within- look at the source of that beauty- look at God at work within the person- look at the love within the person- and see the light of Christ trying to shine through- Jesus brings a passion of love in so many ways- a passion so deep he was willing to give his life to love me- to forgive me- to free me to take that love into the world- to have confidence in what he did- it’s not about what I can do or about what I do – it has to be about what Jesus does in and through me- I must give myself over to him- to be willing to trust in his steadfast love – to be willing to venture into areas that seem out of bounds- maybe even to run off the field – down the sidelines for a touchdown –and call that a touchdown from now on- when Jesus came into this world he changed it all- he spun the rules upside down and inside out- the law that people were used to obeying to keep themselves righteous with God was thrown out with Jesus- he told them that only he could make them righteous with God- not by obeying all the rules- look at the game a little differently and declare some new guidelines—and the guideline that Jesus showed the world was about love- to let love be genuine- to let love come from the heart in a joyous thankfulness to God for all that’s been done for us- to really care for each other in all our needs and to love one another – "Just send the whole team after #5." – Wonder if Jesus felt that the entire world was pursuing him- to take him out- to destroy his progress- they were – they did – but it didn’t work- cause when Jesus suffered and died on that cross and rose again he changed all the rules. And for that I give all my thanks and praise. I think I'll look at a few things differently now.

Prayer- Lord, you changed it all- change me- show me how to love others- show me how to serve others- show me how to be steadfast in you. Use me in your kingdom this day. -- Amen

August 26th People Reflection

Friday 8/26/2005

John 6.60-71- You cannot come to me, unless the Father makes you want to come.

1 Chronicles 25-26-Musicians and Guards are assigned duty to the Temple

Zechariah 11-Two sticks for tending the sheep- Mercy and Unity

Jeremiah 15.15-21-If you turn back, I will take you back

Isaiah 1.18-let us argue it out and be forgiven

Psalm 89.1-18-with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations

"There’s more in here to move than what I thought."- The maintenance man at Sarah’s apartment said this as Bryan and I were moving furniture out. It really didn’t look that bad to Bryan and me. So we went to work – carrying things out- cleaning out – we had a duty to do – move the furniture back home- put it in storage for some time- God assigned duties to people in the Temple- gave them jobs to do- when we get active in doing things we feel our usefulness- but sometimes when we become inactive we turn away from God- go our own selfish ways—but God calls us back and let’s us know that if we turn back to him he will take us back – forgive us and take us back- it’s funny how we can’t come to God- God comes to us and makes us want to come to him- and when God shows this mercy he has for us- he gathers us together in Unity with himself- and that unity puts us right back to work – doing God’s work in his temple- giving us joy once again- so much joy that we want to go out and tell all people how faithful God is to us in our lives – "There’s more in here to move than what I thought." – yea – a little job given to us – jobs given to us by God- more to them than what we thought- thanks be to God our shepherd that he gives me the jobs I need to keep me focused on him and doesn’t let me get lazy in my own selfishness. – "There’s more in here to move than what I thought."

Prayer- Thank you for giving me work to do in your kingdom- thank you for assigning work to the priests, guards, musicians, builders, prophets, care-takers and all people who work in your kingdom- thank you for the unity you give us to bring us together to focus our love and praise on you. Thank you for your Church -- Amen

August 25th People Reflection

Thursday 8/25/2005

John 6.25-59-I tell you for certain that you won’t live unless you eat the flesh and drink the blood of the Son of Man. But if you do eat my flesh and drink my blood, you will have eternal life, and I will raise you to life on the last day.

1 Chronicles 24-the temple duties were divided between all the priests

Zechariah 10-I, the LORD, am the one who sends storm clouds and showers of rain to make fields produce.

Psalm 26.1-8-test my heart and my mind

1 Kings 19.9b-18-What are you doing here, Elijah?

Psalm 105.42-45-So he brought his people out with joy, his chosen ones with singing

"They won’t get busy until tests roll around."- A statement about a dispensary at LR- Reminds me of Psalm 26- sometimes it takes a little testing to make us know that we depend on God for help and guidance- sometimes it takes a walk through the wilderness of life to understand that we really must love and trust God to save us- God may even send a storm into our lives- confuse us- set us back a little- but in that storm comes his ever-living, ever-loving, ever-lasting water of life- his rain that showers upon us and gives us growth- just as the rain makes the fields produce- sometimes the storms of life make us produce- give us character and endurance- and makes us fit for ministry- makes us priests able to serve him in his kingdom- Jesus gave his very life for us- went through the ultimate storm of life for me and gave his body and blood for me and my sin that I may have everlasting life—I must eat of his flesh and blood and I will also have eternal life on the last day I will be raised—"They won’t bet busy until tests roll around."—but that time may be the best time- when I am tested – I am loved by God – I am given growth, life and am raised to that ministry God sends me to do. I’m ready to go.

Prayer- Lord-thank you for tests- thank you for the caring love you show me in the tests of life- the situations in which you place me- the growth you give- the life you give and thank you most of all for that life you gave me through your Son Jesus. --- Amen

1 Chronicles 22.2-23.32-Ask for anything else you need

Zechariah 9-Your king has won a victory, and he is coming to you

John 1.43-51-Follow me

Acts 2.1-4-All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit

Psalm 104.30-35-for I rejoice in the LORD

"The parameters were changed in the program."—A machine tool program – changed parameters- can cause metal to be cut incorrectly and parts damaged- a human change-not something done accidentally but on purpose—Makes me think of how I must change my life- follow Jesus – see him coming to me on the water- realize that this is the man without sin- he doesn’t need to go under the water like I do – I need to go under- to be cleansed from my sin- but Jesus can walk on the water- I must follow him- he is my King- the one who forgives and has won the victory for me – he is coming to me- follow him- change my parameters and follow him- be filled with the Holy Spirit- change my parameters- and rejoice in him and in him only – yea- change my parameters- that’s what I need this day.

Prayer- Lord, change my parameters- I confess my sinfulness- change my parameters and fill me with your Spirit- I wanna serve and obey you- I wanna reach out to your hand as you walk on that water towards me- I wanna praise you as my victorious King- I wanna be filled with the Sprit- I wanna work in your kingdom this day- I wanna rejoice in you- I wanna love you- I wanna be your child – I wanna trust in you for all I need- I wanna follow you -- Amen

Zechariah 8-Now you no longer need to be afraid.

1 Corinthians 12.27-31a-Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.

Ezekiel 3.1-3-Then I ate it; and in my mouth it was as sweet as honey.

Psalm 119.89-104-I am yours; save me

"Greetings Papa Lynch!" – A warm welcome from LR campus Pastor Weisner- a welcome with a big hug! – an assuring hug – that as a parent I don’t need to be afraid- God is present here at LR – The temple is being built all around me – at the threshing place- where the wheat is beat and the precious kernels are brought out- young lives invigorated with wisdom, understanding and spirit- young lives finding what part of the body of Christ they will play- discovering the gifts God has given them then enhancing those gifts- they will partake of the body of Christ and it will be as sweet as honey in their mouths -–they will offer their lives to Christ the one who saves- here they will hear the message of Christ – receive a full measure of faith –so I no longer need to be afraid – nor any of the students at LR—"Greetings Papa Lynch!" – God speaking through a wonderful southern accent and a faithful, spirit filled Lutheran Pastor.

Prayer- Lord, lead and guide all students returning to college this week and in the up-coming weeks- bless all those responsible for spreading your loving message – your wisdom- your understanding – and lead all to grow in the knowledge of the gifts you have given each one of us in the body of Christ- then send us out in the most powerful way only you know how. -- Amen

Psalm 139-O LORD, you have searched me and known me.

"Send me the report then get out of here."—Taking a couple of days off- earlier in the week – working through the night- do a little work and get out of here- reminds me of how life is with God- God tell and announce day after day what God has done- how God knows everything- how God saves- announce what I see- let my mind be transformed by God and discern his will and announce it – announce it- God knows me – he has plans for me before I was born- before the world was created- think about it and go announce it- report it to all I see – God saves us – then ----- get out of here. – "Send me the report then get out of here."

Prayer- Lord – I’ve got a great thing to report today- You save us! – I’ll tell that all my life and tell of all you have done—then – when it’s time – I’ll get out of here. Thanks be to God! -- Amen

August 19th People Reflection

Friday 8/18/2005

John 4.1-26-You don’t know what God wants to give you, and you don’t know who is asking you for a drink

1 Chronicles 15.1-16.7-David wanted everyone to see God- in that sacred chest being brought to Jerusalem

Zechariah 4-I am the LORD All-Powerful. So don’t depend on your own power or strength, but on my Spirit

Isaiah 51.1-6-Listen to me, you that seek the LORD-my salvation will be forever

Deuteronomy 2.1-7-we journeyed back into the wilderness…Surely the LORD God has blessed you in all your undertakings; he knows your going through this great wilderness.

Psalm 105.1-11-O give thanks to the LORD, call on his name, make known his deeds among the peoples…seek his presence continually

"Come on—let’s take a walk"—A friend at work- a walk- usually direction or advice or just time to talk- a break away from things- sometimes I think God wants me to take a walk- actually maybe many times for me- and in those times I don’t know what God wants to give me- and he always does give something- sometimes I feel he asks me for a drink- will I serve him?- David not only walked with God – he danced before God- sometimes I feel that joy in my walks- feel like dancing- foolishness – reminds me of a song I’ve heard- but when God walks with me I am compelled to share the joy he brings with others- I am compelled to listen to him- to hear of his salvation- to listen for his guidance- I’m walking into – through – sometimes out of the wilderness of life and I need to hear God speak- I need to love – serve and obey him- and to do this I need to walk with him- dance with him and listen to him and feel his presence continually- cause he’s always there- even when I distance myself- he is there- "Come on—let’s take a walk"

Prayer- Lord, let’s walk- I’ll listen, love, serve and obey – and maybe do a dance along the way. -- Amen

August 18th People Reflection

Thursday 8/18/2005

John 3.22-36-Everyone who has faith in the Son has eternal life

1 Chronicles 13-14-the ox pulling the cart with the Ark stumbled-Uzzah reached to catch the Ark-God killed Uzzah

Zechariah 3-In a single day I will forgive this guilty country.

Psalm 138-I give thanks with my whole heart

John 6.1-15-he withdrew again to the mountain by himself

Psalm 145-on your wondrous works, I will meditate

"You caused checks to be put on the form."—Sarah and her physical for college- a physical examination and a form- I caused checks to be put on her form because of high blood pressure in her family or some such thing- You’re stuck with your relatives- can’t do much about all that- but you can be aware of what has happened in the past- maybe change some behavior that your ancestors did that brought on troubles – but some things you’re just stuck with- so being brought up as a Christian- you have a choice later in life- it is your life after all- you can choose to have faith- you can choose to follow your ancestors- or you can choose to turn from God- everyone who has faith in the Son has eternal life- a choice I can make- Uzzah reacted to the ark of the covenant falling from a cart – he reached out to catch it- to save God in a sense—well it doesn’t work that way- I can’t save God- God saves me- and God killed Uzzah to make this point- that story was and is a hard one for me to get- why would God kill Uzzah- he was only trying to help- but God doesn’t need my help- I need and depend on his- all my life- but why did God kill Uzzah?- it seems so cruel- Uzzah was only trying to help—but the point is made- if I try to save myself-I die- so maybe God didn’t kill Uzzah after all- even though it seems like a reaction- maybe it was really a choice- Uzzah could have just let the ark fall – or trusted God would take care of it – so God gives life – doesn’t’ take it- I take it from myself- or I turn from it- god forgives the sin and creates in me a thankful heart- a reason to meditate of God’s works- a reason to pray – a reason to retreat in conversation with God- I must trust in him- did God speak yesterday? – in some way I’m sure- "You caused checks to be put on the form."—Well- I guess I’m gonna depend on the checks Jesus puts on the form because I am a child of God and depend on his salvation- Jesus my ancestor in faith.

Prayer- Sometimes it’s a little obtuse in how you speak your messages to me day to day- sometimes I don’t get it- sometimes I don’t understand your actions- why life works the way it does- why you do the things you do- but I still must have faith in you- for you are God- you gave your life on that cross for me- you prayed for me- you suffered for me- you feed me- day after day – with your Word and with your salvation- build my faith throughout my life- as I go through this wilderness- show me how to have all trust and hope in you – show me the way – I depend on your forgiveness Lord. -- Amen

John 3.1-21-Yet only God’s Spirit can change you into a child of God.

1 Chronicles 12-God’s Spirit took control of him…

Zechariah 2-The LORD has promised to come and live with you

Galatians 4.4-7-And because you are children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts

Luke 24.13-35-Then they told what had happened on the road, and how he had been made known to them

Psalm 119.105-Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path

"The doors are all locked and all computers are down."—A worm on the network yesterday- caused all the computers to go down and the security system for all the doors to lock down. Something that took control of things when we didn’t ask for it. Sometimes I need God to do that same thing for me- take control of things when I don’t ask for it—not to wreak havoc like the computer worm – but to bring order- and infuse his Spirit into my life- to change me- to show me than I am a child of God- to live with me- to send his Spirit into my hear- lock it up- fill it up and over and take me down- I must depend on God- life goes all over the place all the time- I can’t pretend to think I have control over it all- so I must turn my life over to God—follow the light of his path and watch his beautiful feet- those nail scarred feet of love, live and salvation- "The doors are all locked and all computers are down."—It’s time to let the Spirit of God have my life- to take my life and use it – then I can see and hear his Word while I’m on that road- that road of my life- different and unique from all others- cause that’s what God has done for me- gifted me with my own unique calling and life and ministry in his Kingdom—boy what a story to tell- of a Savior walking the road of my life with me—even through all the pain – and there also in all the joy---"The doors are all locked and all computers are down."—Thanks be to God I can follow him and open the doors of my heart and restore that faithful connection of love to the source of all love.

Prayer- Lord- when I feel the doors lock – the computers go down- lead me on the road of my life back to you- break that bread so that I may see that you are my Savior- and all my silly attempts to restore myself to you on my own are useless- for you have always been connected to me and it’s all about what you have done- lead me out this day into your kingdom to proclaim to all the world your love and grace -- Amen

"She’s about as far along as she can go."- A friend’s statement about his wife in her pregnancy – a pre-mature birth in the making- He has a love and a battle all wrapped up in one—his love for his wife and child burn within him like a fire- a passion and deep love for life- I think that is the love Jesus had for the house of God- for the church in the sense that Jesus means- for the children of God- a love so deep he gave everything for the church- he knows that even though the church may be sinful – the church will stand again- in all glory- and Jesus love for his church is a deep love – a steadfast love- the endures forever- a love greater than we can imagine- a love that goes beyond all sin- and for me- I thank God that even in my sin- I can repent and God will bring me close once again by the blood of Christ- without which I would be eternally lost- and for this love I will praise God all my life- forgive me Lord- "She’s about as far along as she can go."- send me today with your deep love to serve you in your kingdom.

Colossians 1.15-20-all things have been created through him and for him

Psalm 100-Worship the LORD with gladness

"That child is so strange."—A comment yesterday- I don’t think intended for harm- just a comment—well it could have been about me- that’s for sure- and it could have been about Jesus too—when he came into the world- Jesus wasn’t what was expected—but early on some of the disciples got it—later I think maybe they forgot it – but early some seemed to have realized that Jesus was special- so special they left everything and followed him- they focused on God—they hurried to build the temple that needed to be built- they didn’t worry about their own houses like people earlier had done—even Mary – she got it – my soul magnifies the Lord—wow- what a statement! – she got it- then the realization the all things were created through Jesus for Jesus—what a God to worship with gladness---- I wonder if Mary thought – this child is so strange—yea- strange- peculiar- set apart – unique- God – and so are Christians—all strange children—Thanks be to God!

Prayer- Thanks for making me strange, peculiar, unique, loved and one of a kind!—You are God! – and all I have is yours. -- Amen

John 1.19-34-Here is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

1 Chronicles 7-8-Shuppim and Huppim-Machir fournd a wife for Huppim and one for Shuppim

Zephaniah 3-The LORD has promised: Your sorrow has ended, and you can celebrate.

Matthew 15.10-28-Woman, great is your faith!

Philemon 8-16-yet I would rather appeal to you on the basis of love

Psalm 107.1-14-they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from distress

"You clean the family room."—Hmm- I wonder if Shuppim and Huppim were there in that family room? – Or maybe Machir was out finding wives for them. It strikes me how the readings in Chronicles list so many names- meaningless names to me today- but those names were lives of people- people God loved- people God loves so deeply that he was willing to become the Lamb of God- to give his life to take away the sin of the world. He came to this world on the basis of love- to show each one of us that he loves us so much that in our cries of pain and distress – he lovingly will deliver us from our distress- he ends our sorrow—and then we can celebrate—wow – what a gift – and he gives us faith to boot! – builds our faith through the hard times of illness, stress and life struggles—then sends us out once again – to proclaim his glory- he has built a wonderful family of faithful- "You clean the family room."—I’d be glad to- I’ll take my time- enjoy every minute of it and celebrate the love of a Father that is so great that I want him to feel really really comfortable in my family room.

Prayer- Lord, please visit with me today- come on in – I’ve cleaned my room just for you – it may not be perfect – but come an stay a while- chat with me- I love you- give me direction- show me the way and let’s just talk a while. -- Amen

John 1.1-18-The light keeps shining in the dark, and darkness has never put it out.

1 Chronicles 5-6-God takes care of his people and provides towns to live in

Zephaniah 2-God defends his people

Romans 11.1-2a, 29-32-has God rejected his people? By no means!

Romans 5.12-17-surely the grace of God and the free gift in the grace of Jesus has abounded for many

Psalm 45-the peoples will praise you forever and ever

"Sometimes these people just don’t have a clue at to what they are doing."- A statement made about a management decision I heard yesterday – yea- sometimes I think that applies to me- actually many times- but in my journey through life – I know that there is a light that keeps shining in the dark and the darkness has never put it out- it reminds me of a dream I had after Pastor Klafter’s death – there were several of my church friends – we were all together – in the dark – with our baptismal candles shining- we were bumping into each other – trying our best to find our way in the dark- using our candles for light- Pastor Klafter then suddenly found a greater light and he went with his candle towards that light and shouted follow me- there he is – or something to that effect—and he went into the light with his candle and disappeared—the rest of us continued to try to follow- but were left with our baptismal candles and each other for a while longer – that light in the darkness- God takes care of us- provides for us- gives us his grace- a free gift – of life and light to follow all our lives- in the end the path will be clear – he will show us the way – but until then – I’ll follow the light I have—"Sometimes people just don’t have a clue at what they are doing."—yea—but I do know one thing- God has given me a light to follow – I’ll bump around in the dark for a while – but he will lead this person who doesn’t have a clue home.

Prayer- Lord –let me follow your light this day- when I stumble pick me up- but lead me all the same to you. -- Amen

"That way I’ll got out with a bang."- A guy taking another job with another company- speaking about one of his last tasks he will do in front of a group of people- a controversial task- he’s looking to do better- to pay attention- doesn’t want to burn any bridges- wouldn’t want to make anyone mad- I wouldn’t want to make God mad with me- his anger can be vicious- he destroys evil- I pray God protects me from evil and gives me the strength to follow his lead- cause I am an outcast – but Jesus gathers me in – the Holy Spirit calls me into communion with the saints- to follow- I must let God build my house of faith and not try to build it on my own- and I must trust in a God so loving that he will be with me so I will be safe from harm. – did God speak yesterday? – I think so – right along with every Word he gives today—Lord—send me out with a bang- with a celebration in your honor this day.

Prayer- Lord, send me out today- let me celebrate this day in your honor- send me out with a message- of how you save – how you love- how you heal- of your great compassion – how you unite- how you lead- how you gather – send me out this day with a bang of glory and honor and praise in your name. --- Amen

Psalm 15-do what is right

"Does anyone have the documentation?"- A question while troubleshooting a problem- always looking for an answer- always searching for a little bit more information- trying to figure it out- when I think about my journey with God- sometimes I do that too- but I’m not sure I need to get too wrapped up in all that- yea- I will always try to understand- to discern what God is calling me to do- to look at God awesome power- to praise him with all the people- to hear what is right and strive for that perfection – but I’m not going to make it- I need to be part of the group God has called- God works through individuals and groups- and he gives us all we need – "Does anyone have the documentation?" – sure – God gives me all the documentation I need- I may never understand it all – but I can rest assured that in all my search- he has already located me- and all I need is his kindness- Thanks be to God!

Prayer- Lord, send your kindness this day- renew me- inspire me- guide me and send me- for you have and are all I need. -- Amen

2 Corinthians 11-And God is to be praised forever!

2 Kings 25-the people of Judah no longer lived in their own country.

Habakkuk 2-It may take a long time, but keep on waiting- it will happen!

Acts 19.1-10-Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you became believers?

Romans 13.1-7-Pay to all what is due them-taxes, respect, honor, revenue

Psalm 106.1-13, 40-48-And let all the people say, "Amen." Praise the LORD!

"We only have one recliner chair on this floor and that person has a greater need."—This was something said to a friend of mine – a friend spending time in the hospital with his wife- Waiting- worrying about a relative- it reminds me of the Habakkuk reading- "It may take a long time, but keep on waiting- it will happen! – Sometimes I think of Jesus return like that- it’s taking so long- but keep on waiting- it will happen- and until that time- keep on believing- receive the Holy Spirit as a believer- there is work to do- I must continue to praise God for who he is – what he has done- to serve him – to pay respect – and to follow him- never turn from him- and when I do – repent and turn around- I want to live in God’s country- I want to do what God would have me do – when he would have me do it – so I must listen- put up with a little- brag on God – and sense the needs of others – Praise God for all he has done- "We only have on recliner on this floor and that person has a greater need."- Yea- let them have it- for I have a much greater Comforter to take care of me—Thanks be to God!

Prayer- Lord thank you for your comfort- thank you for forgiveness- thank you for taking such good care of me that I can lie down in green pastures- that you restore my soul—send me out this day to offer comfort to a friend- to offer you peace- to show your salvation to the world. -- Amen

2 Corinthians 10-If you want to brag then brag about the Lord

2 Kings 23.36-24.20-The people of Judah and Jerusalem had made the LORD so angry that he finally turned his back on them.

Habakkuk 1-Holy LORD God, might rock, you are eternal

Acts 18.12-28-showing by the scriptures that the Messiah is Jesus

John 1.1-14-and the Word was God-and the Word became flesh and lived among us

Psalm 36- you save humans and animals alike, O LORD

"Would you say those stars are perfect?"- something to that effect- is what I heard yesterday- it reminds me of our relationship with God- yea the stars – way out there- beyond what we can even think of- how were they created? – who created them?- too much for my mind- If you want to brag then brag about the Lord- it has to be God- it has to be a creator way beyond what I can figure out—and if so- why did he bother to try to save me- why does he try to get close to me- he has better things to fool with – like stars- so I turn away- I sin- I figure that distance is so large nothing really matters- just like the Israelites- the people of Judah- they turn from God- but God wants to get close- so close he sends his Son to take on flesh- but if I turn away – eventually God will have to punish me to bring me back- let the Babylonians take me off into captivity- make me want God with all my heart- make me long for God- I will be out in that desert – out in that wilderness- lost—but that’s the point that God comes back again – the holy LORD God, mighty rock – eternal Savior- just when I think I’m lost he comes back to me- showing me through the Word made flesh – that Jesus is the Messiah- saving me right along with the animals—did I have to get lost? – maybe- do I need to struggle- I suppose- cause I need to recognize my sin- I need to repent- and God will graciously save me – God will graciously bring me from death to life—"Would you say those stars are perfect?" – Well – I suppose so – and now I know that the creator of those perfect stars has a perfect love in store for me- to call me out of my wilderness- to call me out of my desert- to call me out of my sin and lead me to life in the Word made flesh – Thanks be to God!

Prayer- Lord- lead me this day- forgive me- send me- teach me- lead me- guide me- make me a beacon of your light to a world of people lost in their own ways- make you light to shine and reflect your light from me – just like those stars in the sky- but I will brag on you – it’s not my light that they follow but the loving light of Word made flesh- for you are here- you are near – and you are my God --- Amen

"For our worship is about God and not about us."- A statement made before singing at a large church by the Music Leader- Yea- I worship- I worship and thank God for a gift that is too wonderful for words! – too wonderful for music- I hope I please God with what I offer- with my praise and adoration- with my prayers- I want to please God- cause I can see throughout time how often we drift from him- how often I stray – I need to return time after time- and God shows me the way- he encourages me and leads me out to speak his story- he feeds me with that ever-flowing river of life- that rives that makes glad the city of God – "For our woship is about God and not about us." – Hear my praise dear Lord.

Prayer- Yes Lord, it’s all about you- you are my Savior- you are my God- you are my Creator- you sustain me in all life- Thank you – I will praise your name forever. --- Amen

2 Corinthians 8- You know that Jesus was kind enough to give up all his riches and become poor so you could be rich

2 Kings 20-21-God can do anything- even make time go backwards by moving the sun or earth

Nahum 2-enemies will be attacked

Matthew 14.22-33-Lord save me! Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him…

Joshua 6.1-21-Shout-for the LORD has given you the city

Psalm 43-Hope in God

"I expected her hair to be dark, but we all got older."- A comment at a High School Reunion of 65 years. Made me think about the reading in 2 Kings- God can make time go backwards if he chooses- God is beyond time and space- a really cool idea and thought to think about- it will blow your mind- cause we can’t grasp this concept- it’s beyond our thinking- which makes me love God even more- I like knowing that God is beyond my thinking- this way I know I can never become God- I need God to save me—just like Peter in that boat – on the water- Lord save me! – and the great part about it--- Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him- how many times do I need Jesus to reach out his hand and catch me- how many times do I call out- Lord save me! – then that Jericho story—God gives the plan—and at the proper time we shout! – and the LORD gave them the city—Salvation – a reason to shout—for God has given us that city- given that hope in the eternal future of that wonderful city – that vision of heaven- what a reason to shout- God became poor and took on flesh for me to save me- did God speak yesterday – I think so- throughout time – "I expected her hair to be dark, but we all got older."—And none of that really matters because God has saved us and we have all the hope we need- It’s time to shout!

Prayer- Lord- thank you for Jesus- thank you for being my God- for reaching out when I need it most- I will go out today and shout your glories- for you are God most high! -- Amen

2 Corinthians 6.14-7.16-Paul offers encouragement and exhortation

2 Kings 19-Hezekiah trusts God and prays for the salvation of Jerusalem

Nahum 1-The LORD is good. He protects those who trust him in times of trouble.

Romans 10.5-15-if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.—Everyone who call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.---How beautiful are the feet of those who bring the good news!

Matthew 9.9-13-I desire mercy not sacrifice

Psalm 42-As a deer longs for flowing streams, so my soul longs for you

"I think it may just be the endbell on that motor making noise." - A cage over the fan at the end of a motor- a fan that cools the motor windings—this was a statement made about some awful noise coming from a motor—what was wrong? – we didn’t know yet- we were troubleshooting possible causes- identify the root cause and repair from there- You know this motor can be repaired- it can be salvaged- it can be saved- so we tear it apart- trusting that the people looking and working have the skills and the parts to make that motor run again- looking for encouragement- knowing that in times of trouble there is an answer – I think sometimes I’m like that motor- I need repair- sin degrades my life- I make an awful noise from time to time- but I must trust God in my times of trouble – God is good – he desires mercy not sacrifice- so I can rest assured he will save me- I long for the time when I’m forgiven- then sent in joy to serve once again- just like that repaired motor- it sounds so quiet and the work it performs after repair is so easy – so for me- it causes me to confess Jesus as my Savior- and tell others the good news of forgiveness and life- to lead others to that flowing stream of the waters of life in Jesus. Did God speak yesterday—yea—through the words of a maintenance man looking for the root cause and the repair and renewal of a motor—maybe it’s my turn for renewal.

Prayer- Lord- thank you for forgiveness- thank you for renewal- thank you for repairing my life- lead me today to those refreshing waters of salvation then send me – as your feet into the world to proclaim the good news! -- Amen

2 Corinthians 5.11-6.13-Please make room in your hearts for us.
2 Kings 18-Hezekiah trusted the LORD God of Israel-He was completely
faithful to the LORD
Micah 7-But I trust the LORD God to save me, and I will wait for him
to answer my prayer.
1 Kings 19.9-18-a sound of sheer silence?then there came a voice to him
Ephesians 3.1-6-and how the mystery was made known to me by
revelations-of the mystery of Christ
Psalm 8-How majestic is your name in all the earth!

?Look! ? I have an orange one!??A child next to me eating ice cream-
Orange Sherbert ? delighted with what she had- proud to show it off to
any stranger ? she made room for me in her heart- opened the delight
of her heart to me to share something that was new to her- really good-
great even- she trusted in something that allowed her to scream her
delight in something to even a stranger- no fear of strangers-
trusting in something to protect her emotions ? willing to exhibit
delight ? willing to tell of a mystery she couldn?t help but contain-
telling of a majesty of taste?that?s how it should be with Jesus- an
exclamation point of praise- a mystery revealed- I should be willing
to shout with delight to any stranger ?Look!? ? I should trust God
enough ? I should see God in all creation ? I should feel his majesty
in all the earth ? I should make room in my heart for any stranger to
see inside of me- to see the delight I take in Jesus my Savior- God
spoke yesterday- from the heart of a child ? ?Look!- I have and orange
one!?

Prayer- Lord- Look! ? I see you! ? I hear your voice ? out of the
sheer silence I hear your voice- send me today- I know there will be
so many opportunities for me to shout ? Look!- I have a Savior in
Jesus! ? let me tell you about him ?Thanks be to God! ? I look forward
to that chance to proclaim your majesty. -- Amen

2 Corinthians 4.1-5.10-Now God is shining in our hearts to let you know that his glory is seen in Jesus

2 Kings 17-They worshiped worthless idols and became worthless themselves.

Micah 6-See that justice is done, let mercy be your first concern, and humbly obey your God

Psalm 85.8-13-Steadfast love and faithfulness will meet

Matthew 8.23-27-Lord save us! We are perishing!

Psalm 24-Who is the King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory.

"Is there anything else you need?"- a waitress at Frisch’s – asking – serving- helping- sometimes people come to life that make you feel so good- they are there – they come and serve- you can almost see a light shining from within them – when they serve you- I wonder if that light might be God shining in our hearts- I wonder if that light is the light of the glory of Jesus- people serving others – people in food pantries serving others- having mercy – having concern and willing to humble themselves in service- in service to God and his people here on earth- I think that’s where steadfast love and faithfulness meet- I think that’s where we reach out to those in the boat with the storm raging all around and bring calm into the world of another person- I get all wound up over some tiny things sometimes- and God sends someone to reach out in my storm- take my hand and calm the storm- just at the time that I need to be rescued because I think I am perishing- God reaches out to me through another person- and then that ultimate rescue- that ultimate service- God—the King of glory reached out to me – in my sin and death and sent Jesus to die on that cross for me- to suffer for me – to humbly give himself for me- "Is there anything else you need?" – no—Jesus has done it all- and now I go to humbly serve his children in my world- seeking justice – mercy and love and faithfulness.

Prayer- Lord, use me this day to humbly serve another child in your kingdom- use me to show your light from within- use me to love –keep me faithful in you will and lead me today. -- Amen

"It looks like the hand of God holding a puppy."—Clouds in the sky- how they take on different formations- how the hand of God can show love and care for creation- care for a puppy- a new life- a life that will overflow with love for the puppy’s master- this God- this hand will care for this puppy- release this puppy into a home to bring love and laughter- this puppy will experience contentment – will experience – more than likely the easy life- but for some of us – we don’t get the easy life- but must look at our own situations and be content- remain godly and see contentment in where God has placed us- be happy with what we have and see the blessings God has showered upon us—Paul and Silas released a spirit from a girl- this spirit was making the girls care-takers money- they were using this girl- but when Paul released this spirit- the girls care-takers means of making a living disappeared- they were mad- Paul and Silas were jailed—but through it all Paul and Silas were content- they made something out of that jail sentence- God gave them another opportunity to witness their faith- content with the blessings God had given them – even in jail—their cup of blessing overflows- God is God of all time and will care for us and give us just what we need when we need it—"It looks like the hand of God holding a puppy." – yea- God spoke through a cloud and some imagination and a whole bunch of blessing for time to reflect on clouds.

Prayer- Lord, open my eyes this day to see your blessings- to feel how you en-flesh yourself into my world- all around me- keep my focus away from my selfish desires and on all that you have provided for me—for you are great- I praise you in your Kingdom and give you all the glory. -- Amen

"Make sure you keep your fluids up."- advice from the doctor yesterday- today it reminds me of baptism- how God pours out his Spirit upon me- fills my heart to overflowing with gifts and love- gives me all the reason I need in this world to follow only him- to see the shrines of my sin and destroy them – to open my heart day after day to listen eagerly to what God has to say – to let God keep my fluids up- way up- up and over the top- because I know of this great thing God has done for me- through Jesus- my savior- the one who paid that great price to show a love to me- to forgive my sins and to give me life- a light and my salvation- I need not fear illness or death at all- Jesus will keep my fluids up- day after day- and I can’t wait to listen eagerly to what he has to say!

Prayer- Lord, fill me up this day- I open my heart to you – pour it on- fill it up and let me feel the joy of your salvation- for it’s all through you- help me to find those sinful shrines in my life and destroy them- you are my God and my Savior! -- Amen

Psalm 1-Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked

"This is the first time she will have been away from family."—A grandmother speaking of her grand-daughter- about to go to Band Camp- It reminded me of what Paul had to say to the Corinthians- Keep alert – be firm in your faith- stay brave and strong- how when we are out of our normal environment- God encourages us – God is with us – and wants us to show his love to others- this is when the real ministry takes place- it’s when the knowing right from wrong comes into play- it’s when the church is strengthened – by my witness and numbers increase because of the movement of the Spirit of God- it’s when people notice how to worship in spirit and truth- yea- I’ll look different- yea- I’ll act different- even be odd to the others- but now is the time to be brave and strong and show God’s love- now is the time to be happy and not follow the advice of the wicked—yea—"This is the first time she will have been away from family."—but I pray also it will be the time she learns to be brave and strong and show the love of God—by the way—the young girl was a Christian—so maybe- just maybe- God will speak loud and clear through this young Christian this week at Band Camp.

Prayer- Lord-as I venture out away from the family – keep me brave and strong- let me show your love- help me to recognize right from wrong – keep me happy in you- and may your actions through me strengthen the church. -- Amen
