July 31st - Let's Play!

Theme of the Day
Put the pieces together.

Readings of the Day
1 Corinthians 15.35-58-But God gives it a body as he has chosen, and to each kind of seed its own body...Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we will also bear the image of the man of heaven...Listen, I will tell you a mystery! We will not all die, but we will all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.
2 Kings 11-Athaliah seeks to destroy the royal family but is not successful.
Micah 2-I will gather all of you together like sheep in a fold.
Philippians 4.10-15-Be content with what you have.

God's Word of the Day
You will not be destroyed. I have saved you and I will change you into the glory that I have intended for you to be.

Story of the Day
An idea had come to life. It started just as a thought. Then the thought became a plan and the plan became action. This was the creation of something new. A creation that took something old and useless and recreated it into something beautiful and useful. This idea was not destruction but creation of the destroyed. It brought together the gifts and talents of many. It brought together resources of all imagination. This new creation was made with the materials at hand. An idea had come to life and was new. At the twinkling of the eye and the sound of the trumpet, something new was created from something once tossed aside.

Prayer of the Day
Lord, recreate me from the dust of my sinful self. Recreate me from the Adam of my sin to the delight of Your eye. Let me bear the image of Christ. Sound the trumpet. Put that twinkle in Your eye and recreate me this day into Your desire. ---Amen

July 30th - Let's Play!

Theme of the Day
Don't abandon your call to action.

Readings of the Day
1 Corinthians 15.1-34-Then he appeared...But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have died. for since death came through a human being, the resurrection of the dead has also come through a human being; for as all die in Adam, so all will be made alive in Christ.
2 Kings 10-Jehu, as a servant of God, was zealous in action.
Micah 1-Listen to God. He comes to His people and gives warnings and directions.
Mark 4.30-34-The kingdom God will grow beyond belief.

God's Word of the Day
I have called you to be faithful to Me and to one another. Love Me and each other.

Story of the Day
The storm had caused our small ship to toss and turn in the sea. Then it happened. A huge wave came over the ship and tossed a couple of us into the sea. We were able to ride the waves on our own, but were separated from the ship. Many times we could not even see the ship. At times I wished a huge fish would swallow me and save me from this peril. So here I was riding the waves of the sea, unsure of life or death. Here I was in the midst of panic, no time to think, no time to ponder, only time to act for survival. Here I was...

Prayer of the Day
Lord, sometimes I feel like I've been tossed overboard. Tossed into the sea with no time to ponder Your glory. Tossed into the sea and only thinking of my survival. Lead me to see Your hope, Your glory, Your grace, and Your salvation. I can't save myself in this sea of life. I turn to You and stop, even while in peril in the midst of the sea. I stop to hear Your Voice and heed Your call and be Your servant. For You alone are my only hope and salvation. I die to my sinful self and live only through You. Teach me that Love that I may love those by my side, likewise, in this sea. Allow Me to see Your grace and love in the sea. ---Amen

July 27th - 29th - Let's Play!

Theme of the Days
Build strength

Readings of the Days
1 Corinthians 13-14.40-And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love. Pursue love and strive for the spiritual gifts...
2 Kings 7.3-9-Have the zeal of Jehu in your calling.
Jonah 2-4-I went down to the land whose bars closed upon me forever; yet you brought up my life from the Pit, O LORD my God. As my life was ebbing away, I remembered the LORD; and my prayer came to you, into your holy temple.

God's Word of the Days
I will build your strength through My Love. Be strong and zealous for My ways, for I will bring you forth with new life from the depths.

Story of the Day
I was surrounded by warmth and light that day. I could feel the love of those close to me. They had demonstrated their love in acts of kindness that were not solicited. They showed concern and compassion for my situation. In all this love I was pulled from the pit of despair and depression. These are the people of God, I began to think. These are God active through people. I saw Christ in these people that day. I gained strength and courage that day. I gained faith and hope. But the greatest gain that day was Love.

Prayer of the Day
Lord, I give You thanks for faith and hope. I give You thanks for love. The love shown through Your Son Jesus. The love reflected through Your people. Build my zeal and strength this day that I may serve in Your Love to all You give to me this day. ---Amen

July 26th - Let's Play!

Theme of the Day
There is a time to move on.

Readings of the Day
1 Corinthians 12-To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.
1 Kings 6.1-7.2-Do not be afraid for there is more with us than are with them.

God's Word of the Day
Even in the midst of the battle, know that I am with you.

Story of the Day
The battle lines were drawn and the fight was about to begin. We were so outnumbered that it appeared that defeat was surely going to be the outcome. Then I heard it. I heard and even felt the voice and breath of one by my side. A friend who had always stuck it out with me through thick and thin. I felt the presence of a friend who had been there in the happy times. We had laughed together. We had cried together. Though we were outnumbered, I knew that everything would be just fine. In victory or even in defeat, I would have my friend by my side, and knowing this alone made all the difference in the battle ahead.

Prayer of the Day
Lord, even in the midst of the battle I know You are always with me. Thanks! ---Amen

July 22nd-25th - Let's Play!

Theme of the Days
Stop and heal

Readings of the Days
1 Corinthians 9-11-Do we not have the right to food and drink?---This is my body given for you. This is my blood shed for you.
2 Kings 1-5-Pass the Spirit of the mantle.
Amos 7-9-I will restore the fortunes of my people.
Obadiah-Don't let your pride deceive you.

God's Word of the Days
I have stopped you in your tracks. Now listen to my voice.

Story of the Day
She had been through a struggle in life but now things were beginning to look up. So off she went on a trip. A planned trip to restore and bring relationships closer with her children. And the trip began just as planned. Moments of time spent with loved ones cherished. But only brief moments. For suddenly the trip changed. Her illness set back in for the entire time of the trip and then some. She was stopped in to lay and heal in a hospital. Surely she felt that she had a right to time off. Had a right to rest and relaxation. Had a right to some food and drink to enjoy. But she was stopped in her plans and made to rest.

As she rested in the hospital she reflected on the Spirit of God. So much time. But a time that was clouded in pain. A time that was clouded in drugs that caused confusion when relieving the pain. She rested in a time that kept her tied down with tubes into and out of her body. But even so she was made to rest. And she thought...about food and drink which was withheld from her body at this time. She thought about the bread and the wine and the body and the blood. The suffering and the pain and the death and the dying. But then again she thought about the life and the love and the compassion and the Spirit of the mantle. What could she do as she lie in this state of being?

So she decided to pass the mantle of thanksgiving to each person entering her room during this "down" time. A word of encouragement and a word of thanks to each. It was one way she could pass the mantle of the Spirit of God to those working around and near. And as the mantle was passed around some restoration took place. Restoration for her own body and restoration for the spirits of the caregivers. But why?

She thought and realized that God was present in this place. Present in her and in the care givers. Present in the family visits with those on vacation. Present in the healing and present in her life and the lives of these strangers that are now friends and fellow loved ones on a trip that she could never have planned on her own. These were not her own actions and ideas but the passing of the mantle of the Spirit into her life at this moment in time.

A trip was planned and a vacation was taken and God was present throughout.

Prayer of the Day
Lord, always be present in Your hospitals. Be present in the patients and be present in the staff. For we know that You are the Healer. Guide the minds and hands and hearts of all who give care to the sick and enable them to fulfill Your call to action. Plant Your mantle and Spirit in the souls of all patients that they may be thankful for all You do day after day. Show each how You heal from the inside out. ---Amen

July 21st - Let's Play!

Theme of the Day
Let loose now and then and float downstream

Readings of the Day
1 Corinthians 8-
Don’t let knowledge puff you up.
1 Kings 22-Listen carefully for the Word of the Lord from the noise of evil and follow His Word of Truth.
Amos 6-Your accomplishments are not your own; they are a result of God’s blessings.
Nahum 1.1-13-God is your stronghold.

God’s Word of the Day
I am the reason you exist. Acknowledge My power and strength and live.

Story of the Day
They all left me behind. They left me to float down a stream and relax for a while. But I took a walk instead. I took a walk, well actually a ride. My grandpa was pushing me. Then we stopped in the shade for a while. I smiled at Gramps and then fell asleep. When I woke up he had taken me over in front of a store where there were a bunch of people sitting around. Some were going in and out and most of them were getting ready to float back down that same creek that I was left behind for. Then Gramps gave me something to eat. That felt good. Some women came over and made over how beautiful I was. All I had to do was grin and smile every now and then and the women would really get excited. Then the rest of the family finally came back from floating down the river and we went on a car ride. Then we got to eat. It was a noisy place, so I joined in and made some noise of my own. When I did people sure did like it when I made noise. I’m not sure why everyone makes over me like they do. I can’t do a thing by myself. All I ever do is depend on everyone else to help me along and yet everyone makes over me. So I figure I must be some kind of gift or blessing of life to others. Just doesn’t make a lot of sense to me but I guess it’s OK. ---Kaiya.

Prayer of the Day
Lord, I depend on You. I need to hear Your Word. I need You to take care of me. I can’t take care of myself and I need You. When You teach me I know my place. I continually seek to learn from You. My accomplishments are Your accomplishments. All blessing and honor comes from You and belongs to You. I give You thanks for being my strong Savior, Father, Friend and Guide. ---Amen

July 20th - Let's Play!

Theme of the Day
A little travel and a little rest but some fear in separation.

Readings of the Day
1 Corinthians 7.25-40-
I want you to be free from anxieties.
1 Kings 21-Jezebel has Naboth killed for King Ahab just so he could obtain Naboth’s vineyard.
Amos 5-Seek the LORD and live.
Matthew 13.24-30, 36-43-The Son of Man will sow good seed amongst the weeds of this world. But in the end the good seed will shine like the sun.

God's Word of the Day
I have place you, My good seed, in this world. Travel in My world. Rest in My world but fear separation from Me. I am always with you if you but turn your face to Me.

Story of the Day
We were at a new place. We were in a new place of rest and relaxation. As we gathered together as family on the deck and enjoyed the hot tub, we noticed that the door into the house had locked behind us. This deck was a suspended deck. Looking for a way out and around didn’t look hopeful. Panic began to set in. But also remaining calm and resting in the assurance that this problem could be solved, as a group, we began to look for possible resources to open the locked door. A few attempts at opening the door had failed. Then someone noticed a cable. Another person saw that the cable could be inserted through the door and slid down to release the latch in the door. A few attempts failed and then finally the door opened. All were now happy once again.

Prayer of the Day
Lord, let me turn to You when I’m in a pickle. Send Your calming Voice when I panic. For my hope is in You. I know You have a rescue for me that is beyond anything I could ever imagine. I know that even the evil’s of this world could never kill this hope I have in You. Sow me as Your good seed of patience and endurance in the weeds of this world that I may shine in Your hope and glory. Free me from the anxieties that I place within myself. Allow Your Light to reflect so clearly through and in me that I shine like the Son. In Jesus glorious name I pray. ---Amen

God's Word of the Day
You will make it through this life with Me at your side.

Story of the Day
The trail was long and uphill most of the time. I wasn't sure if I was going to make it. But on I kept going. Then we finally arrived at the summit. The view was fantastic. It seemed as if you could see the entire surface of the earth while laying on a flat smooth rock. The party I was hiking with had decided to stop for lunch now and enjoy the view and conversation. We were amazed at the stark beauty of creation. With the gentle breeze in our ears and a panoramic view we realized how small we were in regards to all we were seeing. Yet our closeness to one another at this point in life seemed closer than ever before. We had done it. We had persevered the trials of the trail and were rewarded with his moment and the trip back. How awesome this experience had been.

Prayer of the Day
Lord, I hang in there in this life. I travel the trail that at times seems to be unbearable. But You have always pulled me through. You give me peeks of Your greatness in those mountain top times. You give me rest and a return trip downhill to reality on the ground. You call me where I am to do Your work each day. I give You all thanks and glory for taking me where You take me. To the mountain top or to work in the city; You are my God and Savior. I dedicate and proudly live my life for and in and with You. ---Amen

Be ready to respond at any moment.

Readings of the Day
1 Corinthians 6-You are not your own, God bought you for a price...His Son.
1 Kings 19-Sometimes God's presence is made known in the silence. Listen and follow His command and call.
Amos 3.3-4.3-God reveals His secrets to His servants, so listen and respond in action.
Hebrews 6.13-20-God shows His love and faithfulness in action.

God's Word of the Day
See my Love active and alive. Likewise love one another and respond in love when I call.

Story of the Day
Both alarms had sounded. It was time to get up. It was time to roll out of bed and listen for the voice of God. As I listened at first all I heard was silence. But then in the silence I heard and saw the Word of God come alive and active. I read of stories of God's activity in history. Then that history came alive and I began to hear the lessons in my life. I heard God tell me of application of His gospel. I heard God tell me of application in my everyday life. I heard God point out ways to apply His Love this very day. As I packed up and left for work, I couldn't help but know that I had packed God up with me that day. Packed His Word into my heart. And likewise, the Son had packed me with Him as we move about my day to show His Love active with and in and sometimes for the people I would meet this day.

Prayer of the Day
Lord, make Your Word active in me today. Let me show a measure of Your compassion and love. Let me point people to You. For I know what a great price You have paid to give me life this day. I pause in the stillness to hear Your voice and seek Your command. Speak clearly in my ears and let me see Your salvation and glory. You are God! I am Your servant, ready to respond to Your Love and grace in action today. ---Amen

1 Kings 18-The LORD indeed is God; the LORD indeed is God.
Amos 2.1-3.2-There is a punishment for sin.
Hebrews 2.1-9-But we do see Jesus who suffered and died so that by the grace of God he would taste death for everyone.

God's Word of the Day
There is punishment for sin and yet there is One whom I have given to taste that death of punishment for everyone. Rest in His arms.

Story of the Day
It sure didn't take much. Just a drop was all that was needed. We were preparing a batch of chili to bring to the party for the big game. We wanted to make to hot! It didn't take much. Just a drop was all that was needed. But we wanted it to be hot. So one drop and maybe a few more will make it even better. Then the sample. It was soooo hot, you couldn't even eat it. Well, sure, you could eat it, but taste it...never! A couple of extra drops ruined the whole pot! We had to start all over on the chili.

Prayer of the Day
Lord, I know, it didn't take much. A little sin here or there. Nobody will even know. But you and I know. You know of my sin. That little drop that ruined it all. Forgive me. Forgive us. Forgive our action and inaction. Forgive me. I and we need You. We need Your saving grace. We need Your forgiveness. Grant me the grace to rest in Your arms and send me out in Your love to forgive and permit the rest in arms of those I am with. ---Amen

Matthew 13.10-17-See and hear God's Word.

God's Word of the Day
I have place My Word in your heart. Stand up in the multitudes and proclaim My Gospel.

Story of the Day
It felt so good to sleep in yet get up to the early morning sun on that summer day. As I ran outside to play, I jumped on my bike and took off to who knows where. Down through the alleys, I decided to ride my bike over to my friends house to see if he could come out and play. He was home! So we rode out together, talking and laughing. Up to the swimming pool to see what was going on there. They weren't even open yet, but the park was open and the Park Counselor was opening up that box of sports equipment. So we picked up the baseball and bat and began to play catch and hit. Then the crowd of kids came. We chose sides and started a game of softball. As we were choosing sides there was one boy who couldn't walk very good. He had some kind of handicap. We didn't know what it was. But I felt that we should choose him first. So I whispered in my friends ear to choose him instead of me to be on his team. He was always last and I knew it hurt his feelings. So my friend chose this boy first. Then I was chosen to be on the other team instead of my friends. And that was just fine by me, because I got to see how elated that other boy was to be chosen first. That was a good summer day of fun for a bunch of kids at the park.

Prayer of the Day
Lord, show me how this day to love my neighbor. Show me how to take a stand for another and defend their honor. Help me to explain their actions in the kindest way and show love and compassion. Help me see each person through Your eyes. Give me the loving care You have for everyone of Your children. You have provided Your Word and richly blessed me this day. May I find the joy You give in love of another. ---Amen

God's Word of the Day
Turn to Me and receive My blessing. Turn to Me.

Story of the Day
He was stubborn that day. The day that the boy decided to go with his friends to the river. His sister had told him how dangerous the river could be. It wasn't a place to play like these boys had decided to play. But he was stubborn that day. And they went to the river. They went to walk along the dam. They went to dare one another and challenge each other's manhood. Or so they thought it was manhood. Then they decided to walk into the river holding onto a rope. Once they reached a patch of land in the middle of the river. They had a blast taking turns holding the rope and letting one person jump in and the current carry them downstream. Then going back they all fell. All five boys, rope and all started downstream. All of the boys were pulled under at one point or another. Luckily something happened that they all caught a shallow point in the river and came to the shore and safety. Each boy knew how lucky they were. Each one knew they would have to tell the sister that she was right. The river is dangerous when you treat it lightly. Each boy had a story to tell and a warning to proclaim.

Prayer of the Day
Lord, as I go through life and do those things that I know I shouldn't do, let me hear Your voice loud and clear. Lead me in Your Truth. Lead me in Your Way. Let the adventures I take in this life be with You by my side and not the foolish wanderings of my own. I turn to You now to listen and follow You. ---Amen

1 Kings 15.1-32-Do what is right in the sight of God.
Joel 2.12-32-Return to God he is gracious and loving.
Leviticus 26.3-20-God richly blesses clearing out the old to make way for the new.

God's Word of the Day
Let My wisdom permeate your mind and soul that I may live in and through you.

Story of the Day
As we were taking a walk that day, I noticed that three generations had come together. I listened in to the conversation and heard how each one passed wisdom and understanding to the other in love. The oldest generation gave wisdom from experience. Experience that had come in living a full life. The next generation gave wisdom in the active and living of life in the midst of the storm. This generation was living life to the fullest. The youngest generation gave wisdom in the joy of the newness of life. The joy and the humor that exists when experiencing things for the very first time. Yet all generations in this common walk, this common path, exhibited wisdom and understanding, one to the other.

Prayer of the Day
Lord, fill my mind with Your wisdom and understanding. Show me compassion and love. Show me forgiveness and care. Permit me to exhibit the traits You have instilled in all Your people. For You create each one of us unique and beautiful in Your sight. Give me the understanding to see my neighbor as You see them, beautiful, unique and wonderful, and worthy of love and care. Lead each of us in our return to You. For You are gracious and loving. You are Father and Brother. You are Spirit and the breath of life. As I breathe out the old fill my lungs with the new breath that only You can give. ---Amen

Story of the Day
Son, you must give your life to gain life. A father was giving advice to his son who had just had a baby. The father was teaching the son how to give his life away to gain new life in and with the family. It sounded so foolish at first. But as the son grew in his love for his family, he began to understand the wisdom of his father's words. Give life to gain life. The more he gave the more life he gained. The more he gave the more fruit he bore. Son, you must give your life to gain life. The story goes on and on.

Prayer of the Day
Jesus, You gave Your life and I got life. I give You all thanks and honor. Now I give my life. The story goes on. May I bear fruit. ---Amen

A secret ingredient that only he had knowledge of. And as he added this ingredient the candy turned into one of the favorites of all time. Patience and diligence and some hard work enriched the candy beyond belief.

Prayer of the Day
Father, I give You thanks for having sent Your Son to enrich this earth with His presence, to enrich the Church with Your Spirit and to enrich the hearts of all with Love. Open my mind and my ears that I may hear Your Word spoken this day and heed with actions that You would ordain. For You have truly enriched my life, my heart and my soul. ---Amen

July 11th - Let's Play!

Theme of the Day
Stay behind and keep things going.

Readings of the Day
Mark 16-The stone had already been rolled back. Jesus was gone. Later Jesus himself sent out through the disciples, from east to west, the sacred and imperishable proclamation of eternal salvation.
1 Kings 12.1-31-David's kingdom is split and both sides go bad and turn from God.
Hosea 14-The ways of God are right, and the upright walk in them.
Romans 15.14-21-Speak out about what Christ has accomplished.

God's Word of the Day
Boast in Me. Tell of what I have done to all the world, from east to west, north to south.

Story of the Day
The miners were trapped behind and beneath a pile of stone. All were worried that life would be lost. Rescue efforts began and data was taken by sensors letting them know that there was some oxygen supply available. But how long would it take? And how did we even know if there were any survivors to rescue in the first place?

So the rescue effort continued. The digging commenced. Then a sign of life. But the life was not behind the stone we had thought. The life was beyond the stone. The life was on the other side of the stone. The life was in the turning around and the going of the other way.

The miners had freed themselves by going beyond the stone that all the others thought they were trapped behind. And oh how the story goes. the miners told the story of a life that existed beyond the stone for the remainder of their lives. They had escaped certain death. They had turned around and took a different path to life that lead to light and life and renewal. You see the trapped miners found a different way to Life than what the rescuers were sure was the only way to life. Around the stone and up the path to Light and Life.

Prayer of the Day
Jesus, I turn around, I turn around and return to You. You have been here all along but I have strayed. I turn to You, knowing that You alone passed through that stone and gave me eternal life. You did what I could never do. You died and rose again for me. Thank You! Thank You for passing through that stone of sin. Passing through that stone twice for me. Thank You for entering the death of my sin. Thank You for passing once again through that death of sin and defeating the barrier to give me life. You have given me Life and Light in You. I turn to You and give You all the honor, glory and praise. For You alone are my God. I will go past that stone to tell all the world, from east to west and north to south all You have done. ---Amen

As the father looked on the child swimming that day in the ocean, he could see the joy. It had been a relaxing day in the sun. But then he noticed his daughter in a struggle. She would go under and come back up. The ocean waves were pulling her under and away. There had been a warning posted on the beach but everyone was ignoring this warning. So the father went to the rescue of his daughter. By the time he caught up with his daughter, the father was feeling the force of the pull of the current under and away. With a struggle he pulled his daughter back to the beach and rescued his daughter from certain death. Then the guilt set in. They had been warned but had ignored the warning. Why? Why did he choose as a father to ignore the warning. After all, even the lifeguards were not on duty do to the posted warning. A lesson learned.

Prayer of the Day
Lord, You post the signs and give the warnings, yet I choose to ignore them and go my own way. I turn from You in so many ways. Forgive my selfishness and save me. Save me from the death I deserve. Save me from the waves of sin that pull me under and away from the warmth of Your love and the safety of Your presence. Save me and lead me in the way I should go. I turn to You this day. I run to You this day, and You choose to run to me with open arms. In joy I come to new life to love and serve You in Your Kingdom. Serve in joy, today, tomorrow and into eternity. ---Amen

July 9th - Let's Play!

Theme of the Day
It's at the heart that Life begins.

Readings of the Day

1 Kings 10-Solomon is the center of attention to the queen of Sheba and surrounding countries due to wealth and wisdom, blessings from God.

John 13.1-17-Jesus washed the feet of the disciples. We are to wash each others feet in response to the living, humble act of Jesus.

God's Word of the Day
I AM at the heart of it all. I AM where Life begins. I AM!

Story of the Day
It was supposed to be a birthday celebration. But just as the party began and the birthday song was being sung, the birthday boy ran out and upstairs to his room crying. All the attention must have been too much. All of the celebration must have been to embarrassing for this young man. So the birthday party was ruined. The children present went on with the cake, the games and the celebration with out the birthday boy present.

Up in his room the boy thought about what a goof he must be. He thought about why he ran out. He was embarrassed to be downstairs at the party, but now even more embarrassed that he had cried in front of his friends and run out. How does he go back now? So he hid in his room and thought. Thought about what it's like to be the center of attention. He prayed to God for an answer. But the only thing he heard was that he needed to make God the center of all attention. Then the young man could see the loving response of his friends as a gift from God. God was the center of attention and was working in and through his friends to bless him with love. Knowing God was the real center of attention, the boy was free to return to the party. So he returned and all of his friends didn't even care that he had run off. His friends were just happy that he was back and the party could go on with his presence.

Prayer of the Day
Lord, sometimes it's awkward when I'm the center of attention. But I know that You are the real center of attention. You center Your Love in the center of my heart. I focus all of my attention on You. When You were the center of attention You took of the pain of rejection and the pain of a cruel death all for me. You became the center of attention in my place. You took on my sin and centered Yourself right in the middle of the punishment I deserved. You became the center of attention and washed feet. Thank You! From my heart...thank You! Now I humbly go to wash the feet of my friends, with You at the center of my attention. ---Amen

July 8th - Let's Play!

Theme of the Day
Be prepared and ready.

Mark 14.32-72-Jesus prays then is betrayed, arrested and denied.
1 Kings 9-God puts His name in the temple forever.
Hosea 11.1-11-God loves so much that He won't even give up His sinful children.

God's Word of the Day
Come to me in prayer. Prepare yourself for a love so deep that even sin and rebellion won't keep Me away from you.

Story of the Day
It was so early that morning. Abe needed to go out. So I took him out for a walk. Abe was a loyal dog and my friend. As we were walking along I saw a light streak across the sky. It seemed to land someplace close. So I searched. I wasn't even sure of what I had seen. Surely it must have been a falling star. Possibly it was fireworks. But this was 4:20 am. I couldn't imagine who would have been up at this time but myself out walking the dog.

Then I thought of how Jesus must have come to earth. Surely He was like a streak of light. Light that came and then disappeared into the earth. He came so humbly. He came yet gloriously from heaven. He came to live with us forever. He came as streak of Light that brought a love so deep that even sin and rebellion, even betrayal and denial couldn't keep His Love and Light away. What a great love of His children God displays in this streak of Light. Oh how He burnt His name on this earth forever. It was so early that morning. But I saw that streak of Light! Thanks be to God!

Prayer of the Day
I give You thanks dear Lord for being that streak of Light that come into my world. That burnt Your name into my heart and the temple of my soul. I give You thanks for the Love You teach. Go with me this day into Your Kingdom to serve and love You and those You give to me. ---Amen

July 7th - Let's Play!

Theme of the Day
Let go of the burden.

Readings of the Day
Mark 14.1-31-In that larger upper room which was furnished and made ready so much takes place with Jesus and his disciples that the world is changed forever.
1 Kings 8-Solomon dedicated the temple to God. God dwells with his people.
Hosea 9.17-10.15-Turn from sin and seek the Lord.
Jeremiah 27.1-11, 16-22-Listen to the instructions of God and follow them.

God's Word of the Day
Come to the upper room and change the world with Me.

Story of the Day
The equipment was set in place, ready for the day of the pick and lift. The next day the old equipment was disconnected and ready to be taken away. The old equipment had set in that upper room of the roof for years and had been worn out. The new equipment was ready to be lifted and to take it's place in that same upper room. The crane arrived, but it was too small to pick up the equipment. A larger crane would be needed. More weight to make the pick. More power to pull the old equipment from that upper room on the roof. The plans made were incorrect and insufficient to get the job done, so now we wait for more power and more weight. We turn from our human plans to a better plan. A plan that gives results. A plan that includes the knowledge needed to carry out the job to completion. We turn to another plan so much better than our own. A plan with instructions that make that upper room ready and furnished. We abandoned our failed plan to Your plan complete with instructions.

Prayer of the Day
Take me to that upper room which is furnished and made ready. Take me there and let me be part of Your plan. Let me take part in Your plan to change the world. Take me to that upper room and point out my sin that I may change. Show me my betrayal and denial and lead me to Your power. Change my heart and weigh my sin so that I know that I need You. Open my eyes to the sacrifice You have made and permit my joyous response of praise and thanksgiving to be heard in Your ears. You are the power. You are the weight. You are at the center of that upper room which is furnished and made ready. Thanks be to God! ---Amen

July 6th - Let's Play!

Theme of the Day
Unity in creation.

Readings of the Day
Mark 13.14-37-The Son of Man will come in clouds with great power and glory and the elect will be gathered. But we won't know when...
1 Kings 7-Solomon takes a while to build the temple and his house using fine materials and excellently skilled labor.
Hosea 9.1-16-Hosea takes a stand for what is right. Hosea takes a stand for God.
Matthew 11.16-19, 25-30-God will grant rest from the burden we carry.

God's Word of the Day
Look around at the combination of intricate detail. Look around at the differences of life in creation. Look around and see My active love.

Story of the Day
The cat looked at the dog and said, "You're funny looking!" The dog looked at the mouse and said, "You have beady eyes!" The mouse looked at the ant and said, "You have too many legs!" The ant looked at the owl and said, "You have huge eyes!" The owl looked at the human and said, "Where are your wings!" The human looked at the tree and said, "You can't say anything!" The tree was blown over by the wind and wondered what that was all about. The wind swept over the ocean and the water got it all wet. The water hit the sand and evaporated into the clouds. The clouds felt the lightning and glowed! The lightning struck the cross and noticed the Man. The Man looked from the cross and forgave the people. The people turned to the Man and saw life. The Man died on the cross and was placed behind a stone. The stone felt the Man move through it on the third day. The woman came to the tomb and the stone was moved. The Man appeared to so many people after His death. The Man rose in the clouds and sent the Spirit. The Spirit guided the people until the Man would return on the clouds once again. The people were gathered together with all creation and Love through and in the Man reigned for all time.

So many differences. So much variety. All God created. All God loved. All united in God. All saved by God. All beautiful to God. Thanks be to God! Thanks be to God! Thanks be to God!

Prayer of the Day
Lord, what beauty there is in the intricate detail of Your creation. How beautiful is life. Draw each of us close to one another in Your Love. Teach us how to look at one another and see Your Love in each of Your creations. Teach us to see Your Beauty in one another. Teach us how to combine in the unity of our differences and the power of Your beauty to form that creation You wish for us to be. Gather us together in Your Love that we may sing praises to You, today, tomorrow and forever. ---Amen

The leaf had given the tree needed nutrients. The tree had likewise fed the leaf. But now it was time for the leaf to let go and die. The leaf fell to the ground. The tree now appeared bare and naked. The season was bleak and cold. Then the tree gave life to another leaf and the cycle repeats.

Prayer of the Day
Lord, fill me with Your Word when I need to speak it. You have shown me Your Love. Let me reflect Your Love. Give me patience and let me give my life so that others may have Life in You. May Your cycle continue today, tomorrow and into eternity. A cycle of Life. May I never forget or abandon my Maker and may I always build the temple to Your glory as I endure to the end. ---Amen

July 4th - Let's Play!

Theme of the Day
Focus outward not inward.

Readings of the Day
Mark 12.28-44-Love God with all heart, mind, soul and strength, and love others as oneself. Give all you have in and for this Love.
1 Kings 4-5-Work together in the building of God's house.
Hosea 7.3-16-God is frustrated in his desire to save his people.
Romans 7.7-20-I don't do the good I want to do, it is the evil that I don't want to do that I do.

God's Word of the Day
Look at Me. See how if you focus on Me you will live. If you focus on yourself, you will perish.

Story of the Day
Lying on the beach, I became focused on my problems. I became focused on my needs and wants. I began to curl up into a fetal position. I also began to notice that as I lay in this position, that being on the beach and in the sun was useless. I needed the warmth of the sun. I need some rest and relaxation. God had brought me to this place to restore my soul. But what was I doing? I was expending more effort curling up into a selfish little ball. This took more tenseness of muscle and more effort than opening up to the warmth of the sun and relaxation. So I heard the voice of God in the waves and opened up. As I uncurled, I first began to relax my muscles then I noticed the warmth of the sun feeding my body. Then I noticed the people around me. I began to focus outward and open myself up to those around me. I began to hear the voice of God. I began to talk to others and have compassion for their needs. I began to let the warmth of the Son flow outward from myself in waves of love just at God spoke to me in the waves of love from the ocean.

Prayer of the Day
You teach the way. Let me live in Your way. Let me open myself up to Your warmth and love that this same love may freely flow outward. Let me focus on You that I may see the needs of Your children and the Love You have for them. ---Amen

July 3rd - Let's Play!

Theme of the Day
Love easily brings forth deeply hurt feelings.

Readings of the Day
Mark 12.1-27-The vineyard owner's slaves and son were beaten or killed by the evil tenants.
1 Kings 3-A mother out of love and compassion for her son, gives him away to the mother who robbed this very son from her, in order to save the life of her child.
Hosea 6.1-7.2-False love is like dew that goes away early and leaves behind pain to the Father.
John 14.1-7-Jesus is the way, and the truth, and the life.

God's Word of the Day
Now you understand the pain I have for My children. Learn from the pain of hurt feelings in forgotten love and focus your eyes on Jesus, the way, the truth and the life. See My compassion and love and live.

Story of the Day
The foundation of the house had been built on a solid base. This was a strong house and of good construction. But then someone came along and started pulling apart the house. A board here or there from the top of the house really didn't cause much damage. Sure when one of the boards from the roof were pulled the house formed a leak when it rained. But this didn't cause the house irreparable damage and could be easily fixed. But when stones from the foundation were pulled, the house began to teeter and totter. Too much of this would cause the house to fall. Too much of this would cause the house and home to cave. This had to stop and repairs were needed.

Prayer of the Day
Lord, You have constructed a house built on love. A house that has become home. Keep me from pulling the foundational stones of love from this house. Lead me in the defense of any one or any thing that causes damage to the foundation You have established. For You are the way the truth and the life. Your foundation is strong and in Your house I will live all the days of my life. ---Amen

1 Kings 2-Solomon establishes himself as king and commands respect.
Hosea 5.5-15-Acknowledge your guilt and beg God's favor.
Matthew 11.20-24-See the deeds of power done by Jesus and repent.

God's Word of the Day
See the power and deeds of My Son Jesus. Repent and acknowledge your sin.

Story of the Day
As the spaceship descended in our landing on Mars, I could see the dust from the surface kicking up in a cloud. We were landing on an unknown surface and the attempt for a smooth landing was difficult to navigate. One of our landing pads rested on a large boulder. The landing was successful but the ship was skewed and unstable due to the boulder. At times during the landing we had to take control of the ship from the computer. But errors were made and errors were corrected. It was a give and take. The skewed landing made exit from the ship difficult. At the base of the ladder, upon exit we had to take a leap. As we jumped onto the surface of Mars for our first exploratory walk, one of the men stumbled and fell. This error caused his oxygen tube to sever and he had to return to the ship. While inside the ship and supporting those men on the surface with whatever data he could provide, he began to realize how every step along the way could make a difference of life or death. One small mistake could bring death as was nearly the case when he stumbled and fell. His very life line of oxygen had been severed. What if this had happened when he was far away from the ship? He would have had to depend on the help of the other members of the expedition. They would not have been able to provide oxygen since it was their life lines as well. As the men strayed from the ship the threat to their very life increased with every step. As the men approached the ship the risk diminished. Sometimes in the tripping and the falling we realize the danger our life has been in. Many times we are forced to recognize our dependence on the ship and turn around.

Prayer of the Day
Lord, when I stray away from You. When I go the other way... I stumble and fall on my own. Over turn the tables of my wicked ways and cause me to see the Love in Your angry actions. Let me see the compassion You have for my life and permit me to turn and run towards You. I need You! I need You to live. I acknowledge my sin and turn to You for forgiveness and salvation. And I acknowledge the deeds and power of Love that You display, yesterday, today, tomorrow and into eternity. I know I depend on You and You alone. ---Amen

July 1st - Let's Play!

Theme of the Day
Hold each other in love.

Readings of the Day
Mark 11.1-14-Hosanna in the highest heaven! Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem.
1 Kings 1-David makes Solomon king after Adonijah tries to assume kingship on his own.
Hosea 4.11b-5.4-People without understanding come to ruin.
1 Kings 21.17-29-Ahab sells himself to evil in the sight of God.

God's Word of the Day
See how I sent My Son to die for your sin. Understand that I have bought you back from evil and live.

Story of the Day
I could see far across the earth that day. I could see the approaching ran. It was time to take shelter. I could see what was coming and knew that it was time to move out of the way of the approaching rain. Then the entry of the rain. It was a wonderful shower. It approached and all hailed it's entry. The past few days had been dry. The earth was dying and the rain was needed. The rain seemed to be a saving rain. As the drops fell they died into the earth. It seemed as if the rain had given it's very life to the earth to bring forth new life from the earth. The rain, even in the sight of the dryness of the soil, gave it's life to allow life. A renewal in the midst of death.

Prayer of the Day
Lord, teach us how to love one another as You loved us. Enter triumphantly into our lives. Enter victoriously into our hearts and show us Your compassion. For You alone bring life into our sinful beings. You alone restore our souls. You show us why we must turn from our evil ways to life in You. You are King over all. You have shown us the tender love of holding us in Your heart. Now send us renewed and recreated in Your Love to hold one another in that same Love. ---Amen
