A letter from Grandpa Lynch to Kaiya at her baptism on the Easter Vigil 2008

To Kaiya on her baptismal day,

Kaiya, today is Saturday March 22nd 2008. You were baptized at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Centerville Ohio. You were baptized at the Easter Vigil Service. I know, right now this means nothing to you, but by the time you can read this letter, your baptism will begin to unfold life before your eyes. You will see life beyond this life. You will begin to live life beyond death.

Kaiya, in your baptism, God gave you such a wonderful gift. It’s such a wonderful gift that even grown-ups like myself can’t understand it. If someone tells you that they do, beware of them. They speak lies. Only God understands the depth of this gift of baptism given to you on this day. Both you and I only get a sneak peek at the depth of God’s love. But in baptism, God names you as His own. He claims you as His child. He gives you a promise and strikes a covenant with you.
Through your baptism you will begin a walk with God. Family has promised before God that they will give you God’s Word, teach you the Lord’s Prayer, the Ten Commandments, and the Apostle’s Creed. Your family has made a promise to tell the wonderful story of a loving God that has been active in their lives. God has certainly been active in mine. I’m so happy to share God with you this day. I look forward to telling you stories, while you sit on my lap of how God is active in my life and the lives of His people.

Kaiya, as I look into your eyes I see no sin. But you were born into a world of sin. There is sin all around us. I have sinned and will sin some more. You will see sin active in and around you each and every day. You will experience sin yourself. Kaiya, you will sin, yourself. You will see prejudice in this world. You will see hatred. You will see death and destruction all around. You will commit many sins yourself, just as I have. You see we all sin and fail and need a Savior. In this is the beauty of the day of your baptism.

Kaiya, you were baptized at the Easter Vigil. That time in between Jesus in the tomb and Jesus resurrected. Jesus died on that cross because of my sin and your sin. Jesus became our sin on that cross. The Father abandoned the Son due to our sin. Now he lay in a tomb. Jesus died in our sin. But something wonderful is taking place. In His death, God brings Life. Jesus is soon to rise from the dead.

Kaiya, in your baptism was water. In your baptism were water and a promise and the Word. Water that drowned your sin. In that water you died along with Jesus. You died even as an infant. In that water was a promise also. Both present, God promised eternal life. Along with the water and the promise was God’s Word. God’s Word made alive in your new life. Now as you grow, and God walks with you, He will bring you to believe. God will fill you with faith. Will you believe? Will you turn away? This will be your choice in years to come. But for now God will walk with you from death to life in Him. Follow Him in this walk. Follow Him even through the evil’s you will witness in this world. Follow Him through the pain you will experience. Follow Him in all the joy you will gain. Follow Him in all the blessings He will grant.

Kaiya, on this Easter Vigil Baptism, Jesus shows you the way from death to life. Follow Him and love Him and never turn from His side. What a special day chosen for your baptism. What a special time for my special granddaughter. What a special life you give to all of us on this special day.

Always know that your Grandpa loves you. Always know that on this baptismal day that you are a Child of God and a unique creation. Let His Light shine brightly all your life long. Follow the Light. Follow Jesus.

Kaiya, always rejoice in the day your were baptized. Each and every morning, remember your baptism and walk that miracle of death to life with Jesus. Everyday of your life.

Love,
Grandpa Lynch

I'm the one filled with sin.
I'm the one who turned away from His commandments.
Yet I see Jesus' face of love and compassion on that cross.

From that cross Jesus feeds me His very body and blood.
From that cross of love and compassion, Jesus gives himself.
I see the Light shining brightly into the heavens above from the face on that cross.
I see the Light piercing the darkness of the universe.
I see that beam of Light from the love and compassion on that cross.
There is wisdom and understanding beyond anything I can imagine hanging on this tree of death.
Sin defeated and put to death.
Sin overcome with the Light of wisdom and understanding.
Sin hanging from that cross in the form of Jesus.
I believe in this Savior, Jesus, hanging on this cross.
I trust Him with all my life and being.

On that cross, my God, my Savior, my Lord...Jesus!

Prayer of the Day
Lord, I give You all thanks and glory for doing what You did for me. I give You thanks...Amen

March 14th Daily Hymn, Readings, Word, Psalm and Prayer

Hymn of the Day
In a lowly manger born, humble life begun in scorn; under Joseph's watchful eye, Jesus grew as you and I; knew the sufferings of the weak, knew the patience of the meek, hungered as but poor folk can; this is he. Behold the man! ("In a Lowly Manger Born" - Text:Ko Yuki, 1896-1985; tr. composite)

God's Word of the Day
Behold I AM with you. I give you stability in life. I give you seasons. I give you blessing.

Psalm of the Day
The sun goes up and the sun goes down.
Some complain that all is the same.
Some know the blessing of Your sameness.
You are unchanging.
You always love and give Love.
You experienced the life we life.
Jesus, my friend and Savior has walked this path also.

As the sun goes up and the sun goes down...
We can depend on Your Love.
We honor You with our lips.
But we aren't unchanging.
Sometimes we don't honor You appropriately.
We sin and need change.
Yet You are unchanging and continue to love and invite us home.

The sun goes up and the sun goes down.
Yet Your blessing and invitation remain the same.
Change my heart and make my praise to You appropriate.
Fill my lips with Your Word and Your Love.
Use my actions to take in family.
Use my actions to do Your will.
The sun goes up and the sun goes down.

What a blessing You bring in consistency.
What a Love You give day by day.
The sun goes up and the sun goes down.
Day by day You come to me.
Day by day You walk with me.
Day by day...
Thanks be to God!

Prayer of the Day
Each day I look to You, Lord. As the sun goes up and the sun goes down, You are always there for me. Send me out today to do the action You have planned for me. Make my actions acceptable in Your site. ---Amen

Psalm of the Day
You really didn't need to say much.
The little that You did say went so far.
The little that You said went for eternity.
You really didn't need to say much.

Your action spoke so much louder than any word.
Your action showed Love beyond understanding.
You acted in Love and in death gave life eternal.
Your action spoke so much louder than any word.

I cry out to You and You have responded.
You heard my cry and gave Yourself.
You cleansed me and gave me life.
I cry out to You and You have responded.

Your blood pours down from that cross.
That cross of death and pain yet joy and salvation.
Your blood streams down and through my heart.
Your blood pours down from that cross.

In joy I gaze upon that cross.
I learn compassion and love.
I hear the voice of my Lord and Savior.
In joy I gaze upon that cross.

Lord, I think on You and feel pain, love, compassion, suffering, death and life. So many mixed up emotions. I feel my sin. I see You taking it all on and know I deserve it all, not You. I can only respond in joy and thanksgiving for the great sacrifice You have made for me. I commit myself to You, now and for all eternity. ---Amen

To me, these thoughts are sent from You.

I come to You with my burdens and sin.
I come and You make my load light.
You lift up my burden and sin with You on that cross.
You pull my load within Yourself and become my sin.
You take my sin and die with it on that cross.
You pronounce me clean and send me out.

I have a scar to remind me of what You have done.
I am now cleansed of the dross of my sin.
You have made me into a useful pot, filled with Your Love.
You have blessed me with forgiveness and gifted me with spiritual gifts.
You call me into service and send me out.
I joyfully and lovingly go in honor of all You have done.

On that cross You took on my sin.
On that cross You became my sin.
On that cross You died with my sin.
On that cross the curtain opened to the ark of Your heart.
On that cross heaven opened wide and I saw Your heart.
On that cross You revealed the covenant fulfilled.

Let heaven resound with Your power.

Hymn of the Day
Calvary's mournful mountain climb; there, adoring at this feet, mark that miracle of time, God's own sacrifice complete. "It is finished!" hear him cry; learn from Jesus Christ to die. ("Go to Dark Gethsemane" - Text: James Montgomery 1771-1854)

Trust and believe in Me. If you lose your life to yourself you will gain your life in Me. Open your eyes and trust and believe in Me.

Psalm of the Day
It took Your death for me to see it.
I had to approach that cross and see You die on it.
I had to see my sin hanging from that cross.
I saw You become my sin.
How sorry I am.
How small that apology is!
How deeply anguished I am over my own sin.
You hang from that cross as my sin.
You hang and suffer and die.
You are separated from God as my sin on that cross.
How sorry I am!
Forgive me, I beg.
I turn to you.

It took Your death for me to see it.
I believe and can now see because of Your action on that cross.
I give You my heart and my eyes observe Your ways.
I lose my life to You.
I lose my life and You grant Life.
What an awesome paradox.
Lose life to gain Life.
Life eternal, Life of joy. Life in You!
Touch my eyes and fill me with faith.
I lose my life to You.
It took Your death for me to see it.
I stand before the altar of that cross.
I stand and adore You!
