March 29th Reflection

Tuesday 3/29/2005

Matthew 23.13-39 - Jesus finishes tearing into the Pharisees and Teachers - I must be honest-not show off and be sincere about God-then Jesus laments over Jerusalem - he wants so bad for the people to see the kingdom but knows what is about to happen in this city.

Numbers 23.27-24.25 - So Balak tries another place- takes Balaam there and Balaam still blesses Israel - this is what God chose- Balak is so mad now he runs Balaam off and Balaam delivers a prophecy that the Edomites will one day be defeated by Israel - God has the power to do what he wants- much more power than any king could edict people with.

Song of Solomon 5.2-6.3 - A dream- a little bit of separation and longing for one another- now this does sound like how my relationship with God is - sometimes I can get separated and then I long to have God back in my life- I run to find God and will do anything to be in his presence - but God finds me instead-even though I search- he reveals himself to me- there is sex-desire and longing- it almost appears that the lover or God desires to be very intimate with the lover- maybe this entry in the night is to suggest God’s entry into my life- dare I be that intimate with God? - is this an attempt to describe in human terms God’s deep love for each on of us?

See how to serve, love and obey. Hear Jesus command- Wash those feet in humble love.

Thanks be to God for a love so awesome!-What is your stance as a Christian?-Servant love!

God creates good- He saves me from the flood of sin and death- God provided a Lamb for my offering. God provided his Son- his only Son-Trust in God- His power is mighty- My thirst is quenched with His ever-living water - God will cleanse me and give me life- Sing- Shout and Praise God - God chooses me- baptized me and gave his body and blood for me- Christ is risen in me- Risen indeed!

Jesus collapsed the box and prison of death and sin for me and the world. I will run and tell the world of this awesome freeing love.

Fear love and trust God more than anything else

Psalm 45 - Jesus is the victor over death and sin- he is glorious and powerful and to be praised

2 Chronicles 6.12-21 - God will indeed reside with mortals on earth- heaven can’t contain him - Jesus is our everliving - everlasting King

Psalm 146 - I will praise the LORD as longs as I live; I will sing praises to my God all my life long - place all hope in God - God saves- God reigns forever

Prayer- Jesus- let the celebration continue on in my life- I hear your tongue lashing for all the things I may boast of - but how can I boast of anything about myself - all my boasting is of you- for you are the ever-living King - you are the everlasting King - you are the ever-loving King- you are King in my life - you are King in my world- you are the victor- you defeated sin and death for me and the world- it’s all about you- it’s all about that deep desire and love and relationship with you- you are God- I want to please you - I want to serve you- I want to sing praises to you and I offer myself to you - use me this day - send me - choose me- equip me and direct me this day - you are God - let the celebration continue - let the celebration continue forever and ever --- Amen

March 28th Reflection

Monday 3/28/2005

Matthew 23.1-12 - Talk about laying into the Jewish Leaders - make sure I don’t think too much of myself- make sure I don’t make things hard on others - it I do I will be like those Jesus is trying to correct here in this passage.

Numbers 22.41-23.26 - So Balak takes Balaam to a couple of places to observe the Israelites and asks Balaam to place a curse on them - but Balaam can’t because God isn’t telling him to curse the Israelites - in fact he blesses them in one of these instances- Balak is beginning to get mad!

Song of Solomon 3.6-5.1 - I feel like I’m watching something I shouldn’t be watching!- It seems like they (theologians) try to explain this away as how Christ and his Church are -- but - I’m not sure about all that-- I have to wonder if people just didn’t want a story like this in the Bible to show the intensity of love and maybe two to show that our relationship with God and each other is ok to be passionate - not sinful -this couple aren’t sinful-they are passionate though-- that seems ok to me.

May all my thoughts, words, and deeds serve and please God.

Luke 1.26-38 - hmm! -- well - after yesterday - the worship and praise of God- I can see- even as a male- slightly different- how now today Jesus is in me - he is in all who believe- we all are to conceive and give birth to Jesus- and show the world the source of love - grace- forgiveness and real life- little strange for a man to think of it this way - but I think it’s true anyway- God has truly planted the seed of Jesus in all of us

Malachi 4.1-6 - A new day is coming - a new day is here - Thanks be to God!

Psalm 9.1-11 - It’s time to run and tell!

Prayer- Lord-It’s time to run and tell - it’s time to forget all those rules and regulations and things that restrict and be free to love and serve you in your kingdom -it’s time to run and tell - it’s time to feel your presence ever so close - in my heart - your seed growing in me - swelling to life - for you have wonderfully brought me from death to life- you have given me life to grow and explode into the world you have given me- it’s time to run and tell - to show all I meet the secret you have revealed - to show all I meet the sweetness of your grace - to show and let others smell not the stench of decay - but the sweet smell of life that you give for all people - it’s time to run and tell - Thanks be to God! -- Amen

March 27th Reflection

Sunday 3/27/2005

Matthew 22.23-46 - God is the God of the living not the dead -we will experience a more glorious existence and a new level of unlimited intimacy unlike any earthly marriage- He moves all who believe from death to life and is the God of the living! - Love God first then love others along with yourself

Numbers 22.1-40 - I love this story - A ruler named Balak was afraid of the great number of Israelites who were around his land- Balak wanted to run them off - he didn’t have enough power to defeat them - but Balak did know someone named Balaam who could bless or curse others and it would always stick - so King Balak sent some people to talk to Balaam to see if he would curse the Israelites and run them off- Balaam slept the night and God told Balaam that a curse wouldn’t work and not to bother- so Balaam told this to the people Balak sent- Balak then sent a larger group - Balaam did the same thing - but this time God told Balaam that it would be ok to go and see Balak but still not to curse the Israelites - so - Balaam on the way to see Balak rides his donkey - his donkey stops and does some strange things - three times - finally Balaam gets so ticked he beats the donkey - God lets the donkey talk to him and asks Balaam why he is beating him - then Balaam sees an angel blocking the way - that’s why the donkey stopped! -- the angel lets Balaam pass to go to Balak but reasserts that Balaam is to listen to the command of God- do not curse the Israelites.

Song of Solomon 2.8-3.5 - Whew! - this is one powerful love story!

From a parade-to death-to life

Thanks dear Lord for protecting me- I commend my body, soul and all I have to you!

John 20.1-18 - Mary Magdalene- how much respect and awe for her I have- her relationship with Jesus must have been real special- She declares without a doubt that Jesus is alive- She reaches to him yet can’t touch him- how much I’m sure she wanted to touch him at that moment - but that touch goes way deeper than anything physical - Jesus touched her heart and the hearts of all believers- he changes their hearts - their tombs of sin and death to hearts of life, joy and love- what a gift - Mary told the disciples - “I have seen the Lord” - What an announcement - what a sermon - what I joy - I have seen the Lord - he is here - right here within me - he has become the center of my life -- I have seen the Lord! -- Thanks be to God!

Luke 24.1-12 - Why do you look for the living among the dead?- He is not here, but has risen.- The women told the disciples- but it was to the disciple an idle tale- but Peter saw- it was true- and idle tale? - not this time - not ever- the women brought the men a story of death to life - the exact opposite of some other idle tale in the Garden of Eden - an idle tale? - God provided the path from death to life through his Son - Thanks be to God!

Psalm 118 - His steadfast love endures forever - I was dead - surely dead - but God has taken me from death to life- and given me a new day of joy - This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it!!! O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.

Prayer- Lord- from death to life - over and over and over and over these past weeks -you show your great love - your show your love in your Son - you show your love in the dedication and love of Mary Magdalene- you show your love in donkeys - OT donkeys and NT donkeys- but especially this day you have shown your love in the resurrection of your Son - how you brought my life from death to life- how you free me to love in joy and happiness all you place before me today and through my life- you give live- you give love- you give salvation - I love you - I want to play in your Kingdom and love those with your love - love those you have sent to me to care for and to tell that story - it’s time to run - run like crazy and tell my friends first then all the other people in the world - it’s time to run from that place of death to the playground of life- to play in ministry with you and with all you put with me- to spread the joy you give so freely - to bless and to love - it’s time to play and run! - Thanks be to Jesus! --- Amen

March 26th Reflection

Saturday 3/26/2005

Matthew 22.1-22 - Heaven is like a wedding banquet -- but it’s funny - Jesus is right in our face inviting us to a big ol party - yet I’m too busy doing my own stuff - come on! - wake up! - go to Jesus party - forget about myself - see Jesus - he is my Savior and King - it’s all about his party - not mine! -- Then Jesus talks about money and taxes -- money big deal - give it to God - taxes - pay what you owe - it’s the money I give to God that counts - God is the focus - not money.

Numbers 21 - Wandering around cause they couldn’t go straight into the Promised Land - no water - tired of the food - more complaints! -So God sends some snakes on the people-- like - will you guys shut up and be happy with what you have? - look how worse if gets if I throw in some snakes! - Now the people plead to have the snakes taken away - So God has Moses make the Medical symbol -- the bronze snake on a pole -- if they look to it they will live-- this always seemed a bit odd to me- it was like it could very easily become and idol- why the temptation? - the people already had enough problems without making an idol for them to fall into the trap of worshipping - they have to remember it is God’s healing - not that bronze snake-- So now that there wasn’t a straight path available into the Promised Land - the Israelites are led in circles to say - but the people in their path weren’t to keen about all these people traipsing around on their land- some came out and tried to fight against the Israelites - but God defended them.

Song of Solomon 1.1-2.7 - Oh man!!! -- How can I not comment on the woman! -- I could care less about that guy - how he smells and looks and stuff -- but that woman! - whew!!--how can I not stare in my mind! -- the guy is perfume between her breasts! -lucky guy!- she wears a necklace of precious stones-while you were on your couch, my love was a magic charm - “magic charm“ probably refers to a sweet smelling ointment-maybe a perfume- Yea-I can smell it now!-- her eyes are nice -like those of a dove - she is like a flower - she is hungry for love! - ahhhhwww! -- I better head for a cold shower!!--this is some cruel trick God is playing!-this is frustrating!

From a parade-to death-to life

See how to serve, love and obey. Hear Jesus command- Wash those feet in humble love.

Thanks be to God for a love so awesome!

Daniel 3.1-29 - from death to life- don’t worship myself or anything else I may come up with - I will only worship God- and yea-I’ll go through some pain, some illness, some grief, and some fire-- but right there with me in that fire will be someone that has the appearance of a god- Jesus is always there- been there- and knows how it feels-- but there is a movement here- from death to life- give up my way - give up my life- and die to my life and take on the life Jesus has ready for me - Jesus will move me from death to life in a fantastic way!!

Exodus 13.1-15 - God is about to do it! - he is bringing us into the Promised Land - I can’t wait!!!

Psalm 49.7-15 - I can’t save myself - no way - no how- I don’t have anything to give that would be good enough to save myself! - “But God will ransom my soul from the power of Sheol, for he will receive me.” -- Thanks be to God!!!!

Prayer- Jesus - especially this day - we wait - we wait for that big ol party - we anticipate-- some though are waiting with you in the fires of illness, pain, mourning, suffering, hunger and need - but you are waiting there with them also - you know all about it - you wait too - you wait on me to come around - you wait on me to learn your teaching - you wait on me to learn your love - your wait on me to take some action - you wait on me to show your love to the world you have given to me - forgive me for when I tarry and fiddle around and waste your time - forgive me when I linger- it’s time to stop the wait - I feel your presence ever so close - your Spirit right here on top of me and within me- I feel your intense love - that deep deep deep love that’s so hard to explain - it’s time to take all this out into the world you have given to me - it’s time to use the gifts you have given me - it’s time to burst out from this long wait-- knowing that even in all this -- you are right there with me - inside my heart - healing from the inside out and bringing me from death to life- just a second or two more to wait -- I can’t wait!!! -- Thanks be to God! -- Amen

March 25th Reflection

Friday 3/25/2005

Matthew 21.28-46 - So don’t just say the right thing - don’t just tell God what you think he wants to hear - it’s better if you just go and do what is right than to be all talk - just repent of sin and go do what God wants me to do - God has sent so many people to talk to me - he has given me the Bible to read - the prophets -- how much more can be done- I must believe and not kick out any more people - I must believe that the Son has come and not reject the very cornerstone

Numbers 19-20 - All this stuff with contact with the dead and unseemliness- well at the center of the tent was pure life- life we can’t even understand- once we are presented this pure life we shouldn’t go back to the dead ways of the past - we have been given this pure life in the death and resurrection of Jesus -that’s life- we must not go back - we must not slide back into the death that we completely turn from God and deny him - yea we will sin - but we know that we have come from death to life - we give our lives over to God and must always focus on his life - not my own - his love - and God’s kingdom - we have moved from death to life.--Oops there goes Moses and Aaron off into that way of making themselves greater than God - the people are grumbling again about water- Moses and Aaron suggest that they can produce water from the rock - Moses and Aaron can’t do squat! -- Only God saves - remember that! - it’s oh so easy to start to take credit for what God does - remain humble - after all Jesus was even humble - so I need to be real humble! - get that in my head -- humble is good! - So neither Moses or Aaron will enter the Promised Land - only Joshua and Caleb - Aaron dies on the mountain in a ceremony where Eleazar get the high priests robe.

Ecclesiastes 11.9-12.14 - Everything you were taught cab be put into a few words: Respect and obey God! -- This is what life is all about. -- Makes me think of Greg Havey - in HS SS his answer was either of two -- Jesus or Pray and go to church. -- maybe he wasn’t so far off after all! -

It’s about a community of faith-love-forgiveness and God’s grace.

From a parade-to death-to life

God gives us authority through Jesus Christ to forgive sins -- forgive each other then!

John 18.1 - 19.42 - All those people mentioned in this passage - and one loving Savior!- forgive me! - lead me!

John 3.16-17 - Real LOVE!

Psalm 68 - God is might- God is powerful - God is majestic - See his power is in the skies - Awesome is god in his sanctuary- he give power and strength to his people -Blessed be God!

Prayer - From death to life- today I see the pain of death - a death you died for me - a death you did not deserve - I death I deserve - a final - once for all death I deserve for my sin - but you died - you suffered - your blood has been poured out at the base of the altar- you have been nailed to that walking stick - you have been spit upon - you have been whipped - you have been sneered at - for what? - for teaching? - for healing? - for being friends with the poor , the sinful. The sick? - For me? -From death to life - this day - there is no sign of life - only greed - wickedness and death - we’re even glad to steal your clothing - we even like the rain - we even like how gloomy it all is cause we are so evil - from death to life - where is the life - where is the life in your blood? -- today - only death -- but wait! -- you speak to one next to you - another person at the bottom of the scale in society - hanging there with you - you tell him - you will be with me in paradise -- what? -- from death to life- only death today -- but after hearing these words - maybe hope - maybe hope - maybe hope - we’ll see - Lord - today let me die with you - let me die to my sin - let me die to my sinful way - give me that hope that you gave that criminal - give this criminal that ray of hope - that it’s all about you - nothing about me - give me that death and that ray of hope I pray. --- Amen

March 24th Reflection

Thursday 3/24/2005

Matthew 21/1-27 - So things are really heating up - Jesus tells his disciples to go get a donkey and a colt - the owner will let them have it - so they do - just like that - nothing to it - I think sometimes Jesus gives us things to do that seem strange and impossible at first - but then when we do them there was nothing to it - it was real easy - So Jesus rides into Jerusalem and is praised by the crowd - head for the temple and gets pissed at all the people in there taking advantage of people by selling temple “stuff” -- things needed to sacrifice to God- money changers ripping people off because they needed special money used at the temple - it was all a bunch of crap and way off base to what God had intended- the death to life theme - that’s what God wanted the people to realize - that he brings them out of the death of sacrifice to life in him- but what he really wants is me- I must sacrifice myself to God so God can use me in his kingdom - here and now and in his kingdom to come - it is life - I’m made to worship God - not myself! - then next day Jesus wakes up hungry - I like how they are just walking along and find something to eat- so he sees this fig tree- but it doesn’t have any fruit on it- well - what’s the point of that - so Jesus tells the tree that it will never grow any fruit again and the tree dries up - Jesus seems to be annoyed - I guess when you have been going around with your ministry - teaching- healing - praying and working for the people and they still don’t get it - I can see how he would be annoyed- cause time is running out - Jesus loves these people and they still don’t get it - reminds me of how Moses must have felt or God felt with the Israelites- but that fig tree- well my season is now - I better have some fruit on me- cause there’s no excuse!- the disciples saw what happened to the tree and Jesus used this as a time to illustrate faith- if you have faith - making that tree dry up is easy - If you have faith when you pray, whatever you ask for will be given to you --well Jesus gets back to the temple and the authorities are questioning Jesus authority -- so they try to trap Jesus by asking where he gets his authority - they were going to condemn him if he said from God -well it was from God- Jesus knew this - but Jesus sets the priests up with another question about John the Baptist - where did he get his authority - if they answered from God then their question to Jesus would not work - and if they said from humans the people would revolt because they thought John was a prophet- so they said -- We dunno!

Numbers 17-18 - OK - they are all fussing about who is the greatest - who is the big priest and stuff- so God tells Moses to have the leaders to take their walking sticks and write their names on them - he places all these sticks in front of the ark -- then God will choose the stick of the man to be his priest -- so Aaron’s stick is chosen cause the next day it has flowers and almonds already growing on it -- so -- hmm!- that’s all a bunch of crap anyway - the real priest is Jesus-- think of that crummy looking cross in the church by the lectern -- I’ll bet by Easter Sunday there will be flowers all over that crummy looking thing - that crummy looking stick that represents death and pain yet salvation will grow flowers of joy - endless joy for you and me -- and that crappy stick- belongs to Jesus - the real priest - so don’t think so much of yourself - worship the real priest and find joy in that salvation! - so now I can see how important it was for the Israelites to have the high priest clearly identified- it is Aaron - but today and for all time our great high priest has clearly been identified as Jesus.

Ecclesiastes 11.1-8 - Be generous and someday you will be rewarded - Share what you have with seven or eight others- now this one I like - “Nothing on earth is more beautiful than the morning sun.” -- that’s true!

It’s about a community of faith-love-forgiveness and God’s grace.

From a parade-to death-to life

Don’t torture yourself with imaginary sins -- there are enough real ones to confess anyway.

John 13.1-17, 31b-35 - Jesus washed the feet of his disciples a servant act of love and devotion - then he died on the cross for all - a servant act of love and devotion - a command given that night - “So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.” -- A command - an earthly element - another new commandment given - “I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.” - A command - an earthly element - a promise that you will receive him. Thanks be to God!

Exodus 6.1-8 - Now you shall see what I will do --God has heard my groaning and will rescue - He is God! - He will redeem with an outstretched arm and will by my God

Psalm 116 - I love the LORD - he hears my voice - the snares of death encompassed my but when I call on God - he hears and rescues me and saves me - When I was brought low, he saved me - Lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the LORD

Prayer - Jesus - you came to Jerusalem - mysterious and humble - yet strangely very highly exalted- you walk with authority - you become angry with confidence - you set the perfect example for all of us- as I reflect on your life - on your ministry - on your healing and teaching - I see your saving grace - your love for all people - I see how you want all of us to treat one another- I try so hard to understand that deep love you exhibit - but don’t quite get it all - I’ll keep on trying to figure it out - forgive me when I fail - forgive me when I lose trust - forgive me when I’m cruel to others- and keep on teaching me about the special love you have- I’m your apprentice - don’t give up - I’m sure it’ll take a life time for me to even get a little of it - but don’t give up - use me in your kingdom- use me to love your people - use me to teach your lessons - use me to walk your paths and serve you and your people. ---Amen

March 23rd Reflection

Wednesday 3/23/2005

Matthew 20.17-34 - Jesus is very clear as to what will happen to him in Jerusalem- he tells this all to his disciples - but it’s as if the story just goes on - like this conversation happened but there is no discussion - then the mother of James and John requests that her sons be able to sit on the right and left of Jesus in his kingdom-- I think everyone is still thinking Jesus to be like David - Jesus will be another David and rule - both came from lowly backgrounds - one a shepherd the other a carpenter and God blessed both -- so I can see how easy this thinking would be - but Jesus kingdom is so much more that that of David - therefore Jesus answers were surely and enigma to the people of his day - then - with Jesus knowing what was soon to happen he comes on a couple of blind men -it’s business and love as usual for Jesus - he heals them - you would think Jesus mind would be preoccupied with upcoming events- but his love is so great for others that he still bursts into their lives and hearts with healing and grace.

Numbers 15-16 - I am the LORD, and I consider all people the same, whether they are Israelites or foreigners living among you. - here is a strong powerful message- there seems to be a range in the guilt of sin here- some sin is unintentional - but there is also sin that is intentional - I’ve never considered it this way - but it does seem that there is a distinction here- and it makes sense to me that if I intentionally sin - I am making a choice that I don’t care about what God has in mind and I am effectively making myself God at that point -- next a few people decide to challenge Moses and Aaron’s positions with God -- here again - we lose focus - God has given all of us a ministry - we can be happy with that- the ministry may change or it may remain the same- but that is all God’s decision - there isn’t a ministry ladder to climb where we gain glory for ourselves- there were some Israelites who seemed to me to want to climb that “ministry ladder” -- and glorify themselves above other priests and God -- it doesn’t work this way - God punished them for this choice of theirs - these men even referred to Egypt as the land of milk and honey and wanted to go back to Egypt -- no trust in God’s leadership at all - then after the fantastic illustration of the earth opening up and swallowing these men and their families- some Israelites still had the nerve to complain to Moses and Aaron that some of God’s people were killed-- Hello!!!-- get the message!!!!-- It’s not about you -- It’s about God - God is God- don’t try to glorify yourself - trust-depend-believe-hope in God -- not some lay people or any priests - only God!

Ecclesiastes 9.13-10.20 - More sayings about being wise verses foolish - even one about the “little bird” might hear and tell everything.

It’s about a community of faith-love-forgiveness and God’s grace.

From a parade-to death-to life

Confess your sins - I am guilty and need God’s mercy

John 13.21-32 - Jesus is betrayed - Forgive me the times I have betrayed you!

John 6.31-35 - For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world- manna-Jesus-”I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, an whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” - then this reminds me of “I AM”

Psalm 105.38-45 - “They asked, and he brought quails, and gave them food from heaven in abundance.” -- “He opened the rock, and water gushed out; it flowed through the desert like a river.”

Prayer- Lord Jesus - you are here today once again - early in the morning -fresh in my life - telling me the story of your death - your suffering - your resurrection and life - I hear you but we just move on with things- I see you move on into the world to teach people your way - to teach me how to be a servant - I see you move on into the world in healing - healing thorough all those people active in your world today - yet the mission ahead is there - you are moving into Jerusalem to give your life - to love your people - thank you for this gift you have given - you did it for all people - even the foreigners with the Israelites- help me to say focused on you - it’s your glory - it’s your power - let me never think that it’s about me - for I trust, depend and lay all my hope in you - forgive me when I sin - especially today I think of time I betray you - turn from you - forgive me I pray - fill be with your bread of life - the food I really need and the water that will never leave me thirsty. Send me into your world refreshed and ready and able to serve you in your kingdom . ---Amen

March 22nd Reflection

Tuesday 3/22/2005

Matthew 20.1-16 - So those who worked all day were paid the same as the ones who worked for only and hour -- but the agreement was kept -- Jesus tells this story about heaven - the first will be last and the last first- it’s not about earning money - heaven is a gift from God -so when I work in God’s kingdom - who gives a hoot about how much I make- how much recognition - it’s an honor just to be working for God - its’ an honor to know God loves me enough he sent Jesus to die for my sins so that I even can serve in his kingdom - who give a hoot about money -- I should be dead - but now - because of Jesus I’m alive - who give a hoot about money when you just moved from death to life - give a hoot about that source of life in Jesus and be happy for those who in just one hour move from death to life - who gives a hoot about money?

Numbers 13-14 - So representatives from each tribe are sent to go into the Promised Land and bring back reports- it’s a great place - food - fruit- beautiful land - but some fierce fighting people there to defend it - the report is brought back and the people are afraid- they get mad at God and complain that they were brought out into the desert to die- they don’t have trust and faith in God - so God wants to give up on them - but Moses prays for the people- God decides to not give up on them but that the present generation will not enter the Promised Land with the exception of Joshua and Caleb- the only two of the reps that brought back positive news and encouraged the people - but the people rebel again after they see their sin - they decide they will go into the land in some noble attempt to correct their sin - well that’s is useless and sin again - you can’t depend on yourself - you can’t save yourself - you can only repent and accept forgiveness- the answer may not be what you desire - but you will be forgiven- so some of the people try to go into the Promised Land anyway - even without God -they are defeated -- I must depend on God- only God can save me - I must place all my trust and hope in God

Ecclesiastes 9.1-12 - God has power over everyone - Anything can happen to any of us- but exactly the same thing will happen to all of us- but God gives the hope we need in Jesus- this guy is really getting on my nerves- May as well go eat some greasy grimy worms - poor guy!

Ecclesiastes 8 - No one really understands what goes on in life

It’s about a community of faith-love-forgiveness and God’s grace.

Question yourself - where have I sinned? - Smell the stench of your sin and turn to God.

John 12.20-36 - a seed must die to bring life - death to life- Jesus took on the death I deserved to bring me life- no I must die to my sin - repent and turn to God - see the life Jesus freely gives- death to life

Exodus 12.43-51 - the Passover lamb- you shall not break any of its bones- thanks be to God for Jesus my Passover lamb!

Psalm 34 - Desire life - God will hear my cry and rescue me- he keeps all their bones; not one of them will be broken- thanks be to God for Jesus my Passover lamb!

Prayer- Lord - you give me hope - you give me love and you give me faith - may I bring your hope, love and faith to those I meet this day in your world - that they may come to see your presence here and now - that they may receive the gift of a days pay - here and now - for you are my Passover Lamb - You have brought me forgiveness of sin - hope, freedom, dependence and love for you - it’s all about you - as I journey this day towards your Promised Land - that land flowing with milk and honey - may I bring back to your people a good - positive report - a report filled with bold faith - with bold determination - and bold trust in you and you alone to lead us into the Promised land - it’s all about you - Thanks be to God! -- Amen

March 21st Reflection

Monday 3/21/2005

Matthew 19.16-30 - For rich people it will be hard to get into heaven- you can’t depend on your money to get you there- if you rely on money then you rely on yourself and not God -it’s not about me - it’s all about god - so forget all that crap - sometimes that’s real hard to do - I want to take care of my own - I can’t take care of my own - only God can - and I must depend on God to give me the means to take care of my own - it’s all his anyway -- but that’s not an excuse for me to be lazy - I still must listen and follow God’s lead and call - not matter how strange it is.

Numbers 11-12 - God heard the people complaining about their troubles and burnt the edges of their camp --then the people begged Moses to help - Moses prayed and the fire went out - The people were complaining again about not having meat to eat - Moses was complaining about not being able to take care of all these whiners-- God give Moses some help with seventy leaders - and God also sends quails in -- three feet deep! --the whole thing must make God mad because before the greedy people can eat some of the meat a disease was sent through the camp killing a bunch of people- then Miriam and Aaron begin to complain about Moses marriage to a woman from Ethiopia-but God backed Moses and stood by him

Ecclesiastes 8 - No one really understands what goes on in life

It’s about a community of faith-love-forgiveness and God’s grace.

From a parade-to death-to life

Confess those sins that trouble my heart and mind

John 12.1-11 - Mary loved Jesus - this is the beginning of servant hood in so many ways - Mary and Jesus - serving those in ways that seem strange - why waste the money on perfume/ - why do religious leaders want to kill Lazarus instead of rejoicing that he is still alive- all people showing hatred in contrast to Mary and Jesus showing love - Jesus is about to die for showing love- Mary is condemned for showing love - showing love to a fallen world come at a price - but the reward is death to life - don’t fear the price of showing love - if that love is rooted in Jesus love - it will lead to life - from death to life

Matthew 22.23-33 - He is God not of the dead but of the living -- from death to life

Psalm 115 - Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name give glory.

Prayer- Lord- lead me today - be honest with me - just like you were honest and up front with the rich man - you told him how it is - let me see your truth and understand it and respond to that deep love you have given - when I complain - turn me around - show me all the good and all the blessings I have received and forgive my evil complaints - bring me into your deep love- let me be Mary to you and to the world - to those you bring to me today - let me be Mary - let me serve and love your people and your world. You are God of the living and you created life perfect - but I ruined it - forgive me and bring me from death to life - to that great life of love in your kingdom -- that kingdom where all the glory is yours! -- Amen

March 16th Reflection

Wednesday 3/16/2005

Matthew 16 - The Jewish leaders wanted Jesus to give them some sign that he was from God - today we look for signs that Jesus is real - and that there is a God- but it’s right there in my face - just wake up - Jesus is all over the place - no doubt he is real - then Jesus tells his disciples to watch out for the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees -- well the disciples thought he was talking about bread - because they had forgot to bring some bread just then - but that wasn’t it - he was talking about getting all tied up with obeying rules - procedures and the religious activities that we miss the point- salvation frees us to serve in God’s kingdom through Jesus- So just who is Jesus? - that was the next big question- like - who are you? - well Jesus is all over the place today - especially in others- and it’s wonderful to recognize this and love this- but Peter nails it here - Jesus is the Messiah- the Savoir of the world- then Jesus reveals what he will have to go through to save everyone- suffering-pain-death and resurrection - they didn’t get it - many don’t get it today -but it’s my duty to tell people about all that - and I want to-- and Jesus drives the whole point home- If you want to save your own life- I must give it up - give it to Jesus- in this I will find my life- I will become alive in joy - because then I can forget about myself- and the gods I make and focus my life on response to what Jesus has already done- it’s all about God -- there it is again - death to life - living inside out

Numbers 1-2 - So God wants a count taken - he also arranges the people around the tabernacle-- God is in the center of them physically and spiritually - I must keep God at my center and focused there on God not myself

Ecclesiastes 3.1-15 - Takes me back to the sixties -- but reminds me of opposites and the recent theme of death to life-- None of us can fully understand all God does - but God has done all this, so that we will worship him- life is a gift from God - be happy with it and praise God

Change me Lord-from death to life- let me see your grace and respond in love and joy forever

God gives life even to dry bones- Receive this gift and live for God

It’s not just eating and drinking - but also the Words given and shed for you for the remission of sins -given-shed-forgiveness- it wasn’t easy - rejoice in God’s love!

Psalm 31.9-16 - I am broken - but I trust in God- let your face shine on me Lord

Exodus 1.6-14 - Joseph died- but his family lived on - the Israelites grew - death to life - but the Israelites were made slaves in Egypt -- but God working through Moses was able to release them in freedom - death to life

Psalm 71.12-24 - Praise God -proclaim what he has done- tell my story of God active in my life

Prayer- Lord - you are the bread of life- you take away the yeast needed to earn my way into heaven - I can’t do that- only through you - through your sacrifice - through your suffering - through your shed blood - through your death and then your resurrection - you forgive me - you take that yeast of earning salvation away - cause that yeast will rise up and swell mightily in your church not because of what we do - but because of what you have done - your church now has this yeast and is swelling and growing and praising you till time is not longer counted- it’s all about you - be at my center but work through me today - from the inside out - shine brightly through me to the world you send me into - I am your. -- Amen

Re: March 20th Reflection

Well this passage got me on my soapbox:

Eccl 7: 28 While I was still searching but not finding - I found one upright man among a thousand, but not one upright woman among them all.

WHAAAAT!!!!  I no longer think Solomon is so wise (or whoever the "wise one" who wrote this).  My notes in the learning Bible say that King Solomon - in all of his hundreds of wives - could not find one woman who was as good and precious as the one described in Proverbs 31:10-31. My immediate thoughts: Well, Solomon in all his wisdom certainly doesn't know how to judge women - or he wouldn't have to keep trying. Or worse yet, he is such a perfectionist, no woman measures up. And isn't he the one who wrote Proverbs 31 anyway? I get so sick of hearing about that woman (in Prov 31). I don't think she DOES exist. So if this wise man is only judging an upright woman based on Proverbs 31, she DOESN'T exist. There isn't a man who can meet those requirements either! And if someone tried to meet ALL of those qualities, he/she would be considered a complete workaholic - a "Martha" if you will. And Jesus wanted Martha to calm down and listen and be more like Mary. So this wise man needs to be more like Jesus and look at a woman's heart - not her list of accomplishments.....whew! I feel better.

Numbers 9-10 - How important it is to remember the works of God - like in the Passover- remember the works of God in my life- celebrate those memories and always give thanks in relationships with God and his people- God leads with the cloud- the cloud by day - and the fire in the cloud by night - God is now in the center of the camp -- not like he was outside the camp after the golden calf ordeal-- I want God to always be in my center- not outside - because I did something to kick him outside of myself- I want him at my center - then when he leads me - I will follow that cloud - that fire and let it center back in my once we settle down once again - blow those trumpets and let me hear the voice of God!

March 19th Reflection

Saturday 3/19/2005

Matthew 18.18-35 - Whenever two or three of you come together in my name, I am there with you - then the story about forgiveness- God has forgiven me- I must reflect that great forgiving love of God and forgive my friends and neighbors too

Numbers 7-8 - Gifts were brought and the tabernacle was dedicated-- “Whenever Moses needed to talk with the LORD, he went into the sacred tent, where he heard the LORD’s voice coming from between the tow winged creatures above the lid of the sacred chest.” -The Levite priests were dedicated to God in place of the first born sons of all the Israelites- Jesus took my place too but now we are all dedicated to God through Christ Jesus

Ecclesiastes 6 - We are never satisfied- it’s better to enjoy what we have than to want something else- the more we talk the less sense we make- that’s a good one!

God gives life even to dry bones- Receive this gift and live for God

It’s about a community of faith-love-forgiveness and God’s grace.

Receive the Holy Spirit and forgive!

Matthew 26.14-27.66 - That’s Love!

Exodus 7.1-5 - The Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD -- won’t everyone know- yea - everyone

Psalm 78.1-4, 41-52 - Tell the coming generation the glory of God - “Then he led his people like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.”

Prayer- Lord - when I gather together with others in your name - I feel your presence - I feel your forgiveness- you teach me how to forgive- how to love those in the world - how to reach out in healing - how to speak your words- lead me today - lead me like sheep - guide me with your flock in the wilderness of this world - help me to see through the pain, death, evil, sickness and sin of this world - just to see three days ahead to the life you give - that life that washes over all in your saving grace. Send me today to work in your kingdom - to love in your kingdom and to shine your light of life today. Amen

March 18th Reflection

Friday 3/18/2005

Matthew 18.1-17 - Jesus turn it all around over and over - the disciples were curious to who would be great in heaven - Jesus reaches to a child- you must be like a child to even get into heaven - humble and dependant- it’s not how rich or great you are that matters- humble and dependant on God- and if one of the children wander off - go get em - find them and bring them back.

Numbers 5-6 - That’s a one way law -- it points out the position of women and their rights at that time - then the Nazirite - no alcohol-wine or even grape juice - don’t cut the hair - they are dedicated to God - aren’t we all--and then the blessing of God -- that God will protect us-show mercy and kindness to us and give us peace-- this is nice since God told Moses to have his priests bless the people in this way - a gift from God

Ecclesiastes 5 - Don’t talk before you think or make promises to God without thinking them through. - If you keep thinking about something you will cream about it. - Enjoy eating, drinking and working hard

God gives life even to dry bones- Receive this gift and live for God

It’s about a community of faith-love-forgiveness and God’s grace.

Forgive the sins of those who repent

Philippians 2.5-11 - God became a slave in Jesus- a human - humbled and died -- but Jesus is highly exalted- everyone will praise him and confess that Jesus is God - we will all kneel at Jesus feet

Deuteronomy 6.20-25 - God gave us the Law as a gift- it leads us to realize how much we need Jesus loving salvation - it is four our lasting good - to keep us alive

Psalm 135 - God is good - and God chose me to be his possession- Bless the LORD!

Prayer- Jesus - it’s time to be like a child - to run and play with you - to depend on my Father for all things - to go and do whatever my Father asks of me - the really neat part about it all - I don’t have to go alone - you are with me and you give other kids to be with me too - it’s real easy to do - all we have to do is be humble, depend on God and play - play and do whatever we are called to do - and it changes all the time - we can run and play on the swing set for a while - we can play on the monkey bars - and we will run with all the other kids in this world that you place us with - telling of how fun you have made life- how much life you give by your death and resurrection - and how God cares so much for us that he will always love us and take care of us -- hey! -- I heard this Sunday there was going to be a parade somewhere -- coming into our city -- even a parade coming into each one of our hearts -- and that Jesus was riding the main float - Jesus will march right into each one of our hearts - we better hurry up and tell those kids over there on the teeter totters so they won’t miss out! -- Amen

Re: March 13th Reflection

Dear Friends,

I like this Matthew story a lot too. But because of Peter and Jesus. Peter starts out walking on the water - filled with faith and confidence. I imagine him looking Jesus right in the eyes - filled with expectation and happiness. But then Peter becomes a little distracted - his eyes stray away from Jesus to the waves. The waves start looking very scary and soon Peter is looking at those scary waves all of the time - no longer looking at Jesus at all. How many times in our lives, within each day even, do we become distracted from looking at Jesus? Those problems around us look really threatening and we begin to doubt whether we can overcome them at all. The more we worry about those problems, the more we sink right into them and  the less we look at Jesus. We stop looking at him right in the eyes - no longer filled with expectation and happiness that he really has the power to save us from those problems.

Sunday 3/13/2005

Matthew 14.22-36 - I like this one- how Jesus sends the disciples on - cares about them to tell them to go on ahead -I’ll catch up later- then he goes to the mountain to pray- where he could be alone- how nice it is to be alone and pray at times- to center and focus on God -- then how Peter takes the chance when Jesus is walking on water- at least he does it - he doesn’t lay back - he steps on out - into the water- takes that leap of faith- and when his faith is weak - Jesus pulls him up- how much I want Jesus to pull me up by the hand when my faith is weak - he does it all the time and that’s so nice- just how he cares and loves me- especially when my faith is weak

Leviticus 22-23 - Who are all these people with infected penises?- This is just too much! -- God -I just don’t get all these rules! -- some are way too specific and odd- I don’t get it! -- Now the next part I really like- all opportunities for us to get together and worship you - to praise you - to offer gifts to you - I like all that stuff!

Proverbs 31 - a woman who honors the LORD deserves to be praised. Show her respect-praise her in public for what she has done.

I have been anointed- given a special designation by God. God looks differently at me. He looks to my heart. I will perform the work God has called me to.

Change me Lord-from death to life- let me see your grace and respond in love and joy forever

I have been buried in my baptism- with all the water- completely immersed in it - Just like Jesus was buried-- but again just like Jesus - I am pulled out of that water to a new life - and raised! - I too may walk in newness of life by the glory of Jesus

John 11.1-45 - Jesus had just been threatened with death in Judea-- but knowing that Lazarus is dead-Jesus is willing to go back to raise Lazarus from death - Jesus will walk right back into danger to save Lazarus from death - Jesus is the resurrection and the life- I must believe in him- even though I will die - I will live - I will never die- because of Jesus -- Jesus talks to me for the sake of me- so that I may believe in him - Jesus has unbound me from the dead -just like Lazarus and let me go - I will praise God! - I believe!

Jeremiah 23.20-24 - God is near - not far away - he fills heaven and earth

Psalm 89.1-11 - I will sing of God’s love forever and proclaim his faithfulness to all

Prayer- Jesus on this day you rose from the dead- you gave me life - you gave me salvation - I will praise you in joy and thanksgiving-- I will reach out to your hand when my faith gets weak and I begin to sink back into those waters- I will reach out for your hand fully knowing that you save me from sin - that you will keep me from evil and show me the path to follow you -- you take me from death to life- you save me from my own rotten smell - my rotten smell and decay of sin - just like all those old laws in the OT - you direct me from decay to life - from drowning in my sin to walking on water with you- how can I not proclaim your love to the world and sing praises to you this day. You are God! -- Amen

-- Amen

Matthew 13.1-23 - So I heard this seed and farmer story a little different today -- were the seeds bad? -- well maybe - but maybe they couldn’t help it either -- they didn’t choose where they were going to be thrown - so maybe what some of the meaning is -- if I am thrown onto good soil - and my lot in life is blessed with good soil from God - then produce! -- make up the difference for those fellow seeds that were thrown and bad deal and couldn’t produce as much - pick up for them --It’s not about where you are thrown - it’s about how you take the Word of God or the soil you are given-I must have faith and believe no matter where I am thrown in life- then God will produce fruit with me - Jesus used stories because it was easier for people to understand his messages -- I like stories anyway -- then there is multiple meanings

Leviticus 17-18 - Life is in the blood- how true this has become! --It seems to me that all these laws begin to wear me down after a while -my head begins to swim like how could I even remember all this stuff - I know I’ll mess one of them up-- even though today I think - well yea- I wouldn’t do that anyway -- if they were laws that applied directly to the culture I live in - I think I would get lost in the laws and realize that I would become a failure to them - that’s why I need Jesus- he turns the whole law thing around- forgives me and sets me free to not worry about the laws- but to serve him in joy and depend on his forgiveness- this changes everything - now instead of focusing on the laws and having my head swim in negativity - I can focus on serving Jesus and my heart can be filled with joy!

Proverbs 28 - God will be merciful if you confess your sins and give them up. - don’t be selfish and eager to get rich - you will live a full life if you trust the LORD

Put your trust and faith in God and you will be a hero!

I have been anointed- given a special designation by God. God looks differently at me. He looks to my heart. I will perform the work God has called me to.

Change me Lord-from death to life- let me see your grace and respond in live and joy forever

Baptism is water used together with God’s Word and by his command

Psalm 130 - When I’m at my lowest I cry - but compared to you Lord I am always low- I must always cry to you - for if I exalt myself - then I make myself low in my sin- I need your forgiveness so bad -I depend completely on you Lord- I wait and hope for you to save me - all day long I put my trust in you that you will save me from myself and sin - you fulfill my hope - for with you there is steadfast love- you have saved me!

Luke 22.1-18 - The cup is the new covenant in Jesus blood - there is life in that blood!

Prayer- You poured out your blood on some really good soil - some soil that lets the fruit of your salvation explode into this fallen world - let this world - let me - let all my friends see the awesome power of your blood poured out on the soil of our sins - on the dirt in our lives you came to save and love and give us that life giving blood -- When I cry to you from the depths of me sin - from the dirt of my sin - show me your favor - I will trust and believe only in you - save me Lord I pray1 -- Amen

March 15th Reflection

Tuesday 3/15/2005

Matthew 15.21-39 - So this one is a little confusing - Jesus goes to cities where non-Jewish people live and then when a woman wants him to take demons from her daughter - Jesus says he came for the people of Israel - but the woman’s faith in Jesus allows her daughter to be healed.- so is the point to make your request known and believe and don’t back down?- maybe- then Jesus heals many people along Lake Galilee and goes on to feed four thousand with seven loaves of bread and a few fish

Leviticus 26-27 - Oh how God can punish too- how he will punish those who choose to turn from him and not turn back - he tries over and over again to get them to see he is God - but if they don’t choose to worship God as God they are condemned and judged--but hope is the final word here - for Israel- being in the wilderness - being desolate leads to restoring themselves with God and life in the Promised Land.

Ecclesiastes 1.12-2.26 - All the work - all the material - all the things that we think will make us happy seem to end the same - in death - even wisdom - the wise die just as the foolish die - it all seems for nothing --but -- “If we please God, he will make us wise, understanding, and happy.” -- All the focus on myself just leads to frustration - focus on God -- that is what I’m really here for- focus on God because God is God - don’t focus on God just so I will be happy - focus and serve God because God created me to please him.

Change me Lord-from death to life- let me see your grace and respond in love and joy forever

God gives life even to dry bones- Receive this gift and live for God

In communion I receive forgiveness of sins and salvation -- this is life!

Psalm 118.1-2, 19-29 - This is the day the LORD has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it. … O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.

Exodus 3.13-20 - I AM WHO I AM- sent Abraham to the Israelites to rescue them - God comes to the people - God comes to me - God has met with his people - let us now go a three days’ journey into the wilderness, so that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God -sacrifice myself in those three days - give myself to God- move from death to life- from wilderness to God’s promise of life.

Psalm 114 - Look to God - he turns the rock of Jesus into a life giving pool of water - he will quench my thirst forever

Prayer- Jesus - you come to me - lower that the dogs and rescue me - and save me and cast out my demons- thank you for your grace - thank you for your salvation - thank you for your guidance - your law - your releasing freedom to live life in you and for you - you bring me from death to life- you have baptized me with that ever-flowing water of grace from you - my rock and my salvation - for it’s all about you - it’s all about serving and loving you and giving my life in this wilderness where I exist - I give it to you today - use me as you see fit - lead and guide my actions this day so that I may love those you have given to me- In Jesus name - that’s what it’s all about. -- Amen

March 7th Reflection

Monday 3/7/2005

Matthew 11.20-30 - Just look around and see the miracles God works- believe in them - God is real and here - Come to Jesus and he will give you rest when you need it -the words “follow me“ read literally “Come after me“ -- OK- he will lighten the load and make it easy to serve - he is gentle and humble.

Leviticus 13 - So-what to do with skin disease - it seems God is providing some curing methods for his people - at least some basic guidelines- but it’s more than that - the priest declares clean or unclean -- the issues here have to do with signs of death-decay or rot-- and the priest is leading the people from death, decay or rot to life -- Jesus the great high priest does the same - through his sacrifice he leads me from death, decay and rot to life in his kingdom - and his kingdom comes in three ways - it came with Jesus years ago - it is here now where we live in harmony with God -and it is to come in it’s fulfillment -- so the kingdom here and now - I will live in Jesus life and serve him in his kingdom -- not in death, decay or rot but with and in the joy of the life he brings!

Proverbs 25 - If your enemies are hungry, give them something to eat. And if they are thirsty, give them something to drink. This will be the same as piling burning coals on their heads.

God has invited me to a party. I should have been rejected- but God’s love is so deep he accepts me and my sin - forgives me and throws a party! - I will run to God’s arms for a hug.

Put your trust and faith in God and you will be a hero!

I have been anointed- given at special designation by God. God looks differently at me. He looks to my heart. I will perform the work God has called me to.

I pray that even though I am tempted - We may still win the final victory -- We? -Jesus will help!

John 6.1-15 - A bunch of people - hungry people - what does Jesus feed them - in a miracle - bread and fish - feed me the bread of life - feed me the fish of my everyday life-the work I do -- through the food we make together - Jesus works miracles -- his bread -- my fish

Numbers 9.2-14 - God includes the unclean in his salvation and blessing

Psalm 51 - Indeed, I was born guilty, a sinner when my mother conceived me. - Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put an new and right spirit within me. Do not cast me away from your presence, and do not take your holy spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and sustain in me a willing spirit.

Prayer - Even though I am unclean - you give the chance to turn around - see you and follow you - you feed me with the bread of life - and as I work at my profession - you call me to follow you - to do your work - to speak to the people in your kingdom and tell them of the great forgiveness you have given to me - your salvation - your holy spirit - you offer this gift to all - may I tell others of this great gift you offer to all of us -- for we all need it - we have all been born guilty of sin since birth - even before birth - at conception - but you forgive - you anoint - and you bring that eternal joy to all -- it’s time to go and tell a few people. -- Amen

March 14th Reflection

Monday 3/14/2005

Matthew 15.1-20 - Wash your hands before you eat - Jesus brings some sense to all the laws -- it’s not what goes into you that God is worried about - it is what comes out - so my words are the thing to worry about - the food being unclean isn’t that big a deal - it just takes the route of the plumbing and on - but the words that come out of me are what can hurt or heal another- so think twice about what and how I say something - and make those words worthwhile in building up - in letting Jesus light shine through. It’s about how I conduct myself - not about religious rituals.

Leviticus 24-25 - All these rules to follow - these seem to make some sense- but I like how many are ended with a reminder- that God saves (like rescued from Egypt) -- he will pull you out and give you everything - but remember that he did that- he gave it all to me - so that he would be my God- so when it’s rough - I’m sick or poor or in some struggle- don’t worry - it was all God’s to begin with - he will save me and take care of me and it’s all going to get better

Ecclesiastes 1.1-11 - Yea - most of the time it seems like this - nothing makes sense -we just go around in circles - the older I get the more I wonder about this - then I think- well there is purpose- God has put me here for a purpose- and when I’m serving God- worshipping God- depending on God- trying to make God happy - living in God’s grace - it really doesn’t matter if I’m running in circles-- I can be fulfilled- life is about God- life is ongoing - the circle is ongoing - that’s life - trust in God and enjoy the ride - the roller coaster is fun and exciting to ride- it may not make sense - but it is fun- so why not enjoy it for being fun? So -am I here to have joy- or am I here to give God joy - or both maybe?

Change me Lord-from death to life- let me see your grace and respond in love and joy forever

God gives life even to dry bones- Receive this gift and live for God

Communion -Body and blood of Jesus -given with bread and wine-- it’s both

Romans 9.19-33 - Watch where I’m going - I may trip over a rock - and that rock just might be Jesus- right there in front of me - pay attention and believe!

Exodus 12.21-28 -the blood on the doorpost - the entrance to my home- there is blood on my hands- forgive me and Passover - for your blood is in me to - and your Word is written on my heart - Passover - then the next day it will be time for me to go out -to praise and serve and give you thanks for your Passover of my sin

Psalm 44.1-8 - You saved in the past - you save me now- you will continue to save in the future- I trust and believe in you.

Prayer- Clean me Jesus - form the inside out - for I hear you - it’s what comes out of my heart that I must be concerned with today - as I hear your laws and see how you free me from the law- I give you thanks - I want to naturally move from my inside out - out with you at the door - out with you into my world - out with your words on my tongue and your light in my soul - it’s time for me to go outside now - it’s time for us to play in the world you created- gotta go now! -- Amen

March 12th Reflection

Saturday 3/12/2005

Matthew 14.1-21 - What kind of party is this? -- Then to feel you are obligated to keep such a promise-- go get the head of John the Baptist and bring it here- that’s a horror story!- it shows how evil people can really turn -- then contrast that with what happens next with Jesus and his disciples-- Jesus saw a large crowd-felt sorry for them-healed the sick and fed them with very little food- but all were satisfied- good and evil--what a swing these 21 verses take!

Leviticus 20-21 - God chose me- if I choose to turn to another god- look out! - God is clear-he will be my enemy-- I must never make such a choice!- God chose me and I am his - God chose me to be different- chose me to be his and to be holy too - God is clear enough to give direction

Proverbs 30 - Everything God says is ture- Don’t change what God has said! - Greed has twins, each named “Give me!” - hey!--don’t make fun of your father or disobey your mother-crows will peck out you eyes, and buzzards will eat the rest of you. -- if you pound on your nose, you get blood-huh? - who would do that anyway?!--in Hebrew the words for nose and blood can also mean anger and bloodshed-- now that makes more sense-- if I get angry and can shed blood - makes you really wonder how much of all this gets lost in the translation of words used then to maybe even the same words used today but have different meanings. - I guess I’ll have to just listen real close - what is God trying to tell me-here and now.

Put your trust and faith in God and you will be a hero!

I have been anointed- given a special designation by God. God looks differently at me. He looks to my heart. I will perform the work God has called me to.

Change me Lord-from death to life- let me see your grace and respond in love and joy forever

Water by itself is only water, but with the Word of God it is a life-giving water which by grace gives the new birth through the Holy Spirit.

Romans 8.6-11 - to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace

Exodus 12.31-39 - Go!- Worship God!

Psalm 14 - If I say there is no God-- I have really gotten off track-- big time!

Prayer - Jesus- you see it all - you see the good and you see the evil - but you are the good -forgive my evil this day - turn me around and let my eyes focus only on the good you bring - on that famous bread - that bread that is eternal - that bread that is my salvation - the bread that is you - this is the food I want - this is the Passover I look forward to - you are the bread of life - you are all the bread I need- lead me in your way - show me how to act in my day - just as you show people throughout time- show me how to please you- show me how to serve you - show me how to love you- show me how to please others - show me how to serve others- show me how to love others with that deep deep love you have shown me. Then set my mind on the Sprit and give me peace and life. Lord keep me on track - and keep my focus on that cross -- I have that hope in you of that one day when I will approach that cross with friends and slowly look up and realize and fully understand the great love you have given to all the world -- then that great feast of bread - that same bread you give me here and now -- what a time that will be -- but for now - you have fed me and send me out to this world to tell of your love. I gotta go now! - It‘s time to play!-- Amen

March 9th Reflection

Wednesday 3/9/2005

Matthew 12.22-50 - Any kingdom that fights against itself will not stand - speaks to the need for unity - I think especially with Christians -- God has created the kingdom - our pride and sinfulness must not destroy it- if our hearts are in Jesus the actions we take will bear fruit- we don’t need a bunch of signs and miracles any more- there are enough now and have been enough throughout history - just look around and believe!- when you clean up your life because you believe in Jesus salvation - be careful - the devil will attack and try to take you back - once I believe and follow Jesus I am his brother.

Leviticus 15-16 - Boy-what you read in the Bible- I’m not gonna comment on that stuff! - The scapegoat - I’ll bet most people don’t have a clue when they use that expression- We all need a scapegoat - and God provides for the forgiveness of sin - Jesus was our scapegoat-- remember the forty days?- He was sent off to be tempted by the devil - just like that goat!

Proverbs 26 - Dogs return to eat their vomit-it’s true!-just like having warmed up leftovers-I’ve seen it!- at least I didn’t have to clean it up!

God has invited me to a party. I should have been rejected- but God’s love is so deep he accepts me and my sin - forgives me and throws a party! - I will run to God’s arms for a hug.

Put your trust and faith in God and you will be a hero!

I have been anointed- given a special designation by God. God looks differently at me. He looks to my heart. I will perform the work God has called me to.

It is most certainly true that the kingdom, the power, and the glory belong to God - now and forever

John 6.27-40 - Manna-the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world-What is it?-Jesus! - I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.- Jesus came down from heaven- --This is indeed the will of God - that all who see Jesus and believe may have eternal life and Jesus will raise them up on the last day.--These are some of in not the most powerful verses in the Bible

Mark 7.3-4 - Traditions observed-- use them to see Christ

Psalm 26 - I trust in you God- don’t throw me out!

Prayer- Lord keep me united in you - keep in in your way - keep me in your kingdom doing the work you would have me to do - Lord watch over me and keep evil away from it’s attack - lead and guide me this day and keep me pure in your Word- thank you for the gift of Jesus - thank you for that scapegoat for my sins - thank you for all the ways you have blessed me - now send me this day into your world to let your light shine - to point in your direction and to show your love. For you are the bread of life and all any of us need.--- Amen

Re: March 2nd Reflection

I was behind in reading of Matthew and found out last night that I got stuck on the same thing I do every time I read this. The people are asking why Jesus doesn't fast. I get his answer about feasting with the bridegroom. But the part about the patch and the wineskins escapes me. I understand what happens when new wine is put in old wineskins and what happens when a new patch is put on old wineskins but what does this have to do with fasting????!!!! If I ask the question, "What does it have to do with Jesus?", I start coming up with something: Like, there is new life in Jesus and the old ways won't work anymore...Hey, that's it!!!! - the old ways - the Law is no longer the answer. Follow Jesus - do what he does, do what he says. There is freedom and forgiveness. No need to fast when he's around. hmmm. Does this mean there is no need to fast at all? for anything now? Cause He's still around... Thanks, for listening in on that process - I couldn't get anything last night...I feel better now..maybe THAT is why I couldn't get back to sleep!

Wednesday 3/2/2005

Matthew 9.1-17 - I like how Jesus is with the people - he heals them - forgives them and just grates the religious leaders because he is down here with the people- when he calls Matthew to be a disciple - he goes and has dinner with Matthew and other sinners - right in their midst - Jesus comes to me where I am - in my own filth - he comes right in and makes himself at home and then saves me from my sinfulness - how much more could I ever want or need - I think I’ll follow too!

Leviticus 3-4 - Offerings for the forgiveness of sins -- the process -- Bring something to God - Give up what you have to offer - like my life - Put your word or blood into it - splatter it all over the altar - cut the pieces up - give your life completely to God and burn it - it pleases God -- so I come to God - ask for forgiveness- give him my life -all of it - the good and the bad- open it all up - all the pieces of my life to God and let er burn for God cause I love him - all the good parts of my life belong just to God -- like the fat of the animal -- that’s his -- so the fat of my life is all God’s -- my very blood with the life in it is God’s -I’m all his!

Proverbs 20 - It isn’t smart to get drunk! - Can any of us really say , “My thoughts are pure, and my sins are gone?” - Trust the LORD, and he will help you

How will I respond to God’s awesome gift of salvation -- I will rejoice and join in the party!

Let me drink- let me bathe - let me feel that ever-flowing water from the Rock wash over me in Jesus love and forgiveness. Restore me and send me.

Pray to God with complete confidence - just as children speak to a loving parent.

Live in harmony with the truth and purity of God’s Word

John 8.12-20-Jesus is the light of the world - I won’t walk in darkness as long as I follow him

Exodus 12.14-17 - This day shall be a day of remembrance for you. You shall celebrate it as a festival to the LORD -- you have come out of the wilderness and into the upper meadow - feel the presence of Jesus with you - it is a new beginning!

Psalm 119.137-146 - With my whole heart I cry; answer me, O LORD.- I cry to you; save me…I rise before dawn and cry for help; I put my hope in your words.

Prayer - Jesus- you come to me and the people I live with - you come in our midst - you sit at our table- you join into our lives- you feel right along with us the pain we experience in life- yet you still stay - you don’t run off - you don’t give some nice advice and leave- you stay with us- be with me and my friends this day - guide each of us through the pain and turn it all into the joy and happiness and forgiveness you have gracefully granted -- let our battles be fun - let our work be fulfilling - let our searching be a journey of joy. Receive the sacrifices we offer of our lives- our blood- our parts and please forgive my sin. With this there is celebration and joy -- I love living with you! -- what greater person can I have by my side? -- none! -- Let me see you in all my friends this day - let me see you in the hidden places and be surprised by your presence. -- Amen

March 8th Reflection

Tuesday 3/8/2005

Matthew 12.1-21 - God desires mercy not sacrifice -- Jesus demonstrates this with a couple of actions he takes on the Sabbath - one is where the disciples eat grains of wheat -- they eat what they need to feel good -the Pharisees think that if they did eat they should only eat what was necessary -- Jesus points out that they can eat however much they want -He is Lord of the Sabbath - he is God after all - he can do whatever he wants - he can change any law any rule anything he wants - I tend to lose sight of this sometimes while reading - Jesus is God after all - he can do what he wants -- and Jesus then does - he heals a man with a crippled hand -- the point is - hey! -- it’s ok to rescue some animal but not to heal a person? - what’s with that? - we forgot in all our rule obeying that God cares about people -it’s about a loving relationship with God - care about the people more than some animal - God desires mercy over sacrifice dummy!-- So since we can see how good Jesus is to the people - even beyond the rules of the day - we can see how great Jesus really is!

Leviticus 14 - So what’s the deal with the right ear lobe -the right thumb and the right big toe? -- I can only figure that it was some ritual maybe to symbolize the entire body -- then the whole deal with the house and mildew -- it is taking things from death to life - even the idea of the leper coming back into the community.

Proverbs 26 - Each day brings its own surprises - Don’t brag about yourself-let others praise you. - Just as iron sharpens iron, friends sharpen the minds of each other.

Deliver me from every evil to body and soul!

John 6.16-27 - Jesus is funny sometimes- the disciples are out in the boat heading across the sea- the wind blows and stuff and here comes Jesus walking on the water to catch up -this is different - then they wanted to take him in the boat but immediately the boat reached the other side - what happened?- the crowd wondered the same thing - then Jesus makes a point - don’t follow him because of the miracles and fantastic stuff- but look beneath all that - follow Jesus because he can save you - he can feed you and you must have him to live eternal life- you can’t get that out of a loaf of Wonder Bread - only out of Jesus suffering-death-resurrection and the forgiveness of my sin- now that’s some real Wonder Bread for eternal life!

Exodus 3.1-12 - God talks to Moses out of a burning bush -- just look around- God talks in so many ways- turn from my daily routine and notice God talking- listen to him!

Psalm 61 - Lead me to the rock that is higher than I; for you are me refuge, a strong tower against my enemy.

Prayer - Mercy not sacrifice - Lord as I go out into the world today - help me to reveal your truth to the world - mercy not sacrifice - help me to display your mercy to those I meet- help me to lead from death to life in you the people I touch today - may it all be about you - may I be a friend that will touch the minds of others friends that we all may grow in love towards you together - for I see your miracles- I hear your voice - I must follow-- Amen
