July 24th - Reflection

Luke 8:22-25 (NRSV)
Jesus' disciples cry out for safety

One day he got into a boat with his disciples, and he said to them, "Let us go across to the other side of the lake." So they put out, and while they were sailing he fell asleep. A windstorm swept down on the lake, and the boat was filling with water, and they were in danger. They went to him and woke him up, shouting, "Master, Master, we are perishing!" And he woke up and rebuked the wind and the raging waves; they ceased, and there was a calm. He said to them, "Where is your faith?" They were afraid and amazed, and said to one another, "Who then is this, that he commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him?"

Reflection
We are not perishing! We may be getting older...we may be getting sicker...we may be getting many things in the negative direction...but...we are NOT perishing. Sure, our bodies may die and they may change into dust, but as Children of God, we are not perishing.

Through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, our sins have been accounted for. We will continue to sin, but we know better, and with the help of God, are being created into something new. We are being created into what God would have us be. Our bodies may disappear into the ground, but God has something more wonderful planned for those who believe and have faith in what the Father has done through Jesus and the Spirit.

Jesus can command the raging waves of the sea, and for that matter the motions of the universe; surely Jesus can make us into what he desires for us to be. But we need to go with it. We, as Children of God, need to believe, have faith, and trust in the work that God has planned to do in and through each one of us.

As we are placed in the hands of the Savior...We are NOT perishing...this love, so deep, would never permit this to occur.

Thanks be to God!

Prayer
Lord, I believe! Take me and form me into what you would have me be. Send me out, in that love, to love you and those you give to me this day. Deepen my faith and show me your way. --- Amen
