November 30th - Reflection

Andrew, Apostle
John 1:35-42 (NRSV)

The next day John again was standing with two of his disciples, and as he watched Jesus walk by, he exclaimed, "Look, here is the Lamb of God!" The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. When Jesus turned and saw them following, he said to them, "What are you looking for?" They said to him, "Rabbi" (which translated means Teacher), "where are you staying?" He said to them, "Come and see." They came and saw where he was staying, and they remained with him that day. It was about four o'clock in the afternoon. One of the two who heard John speak and followed him was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. He first found his brother Simon and said to him, "We have found the Messiah" (which is translated Anointed). He brought Simon to Jesus, who looked at him and said, "You are Simon son of John. You are to be called Cephas" (which is translated Peter).

Reflection
Previous verses to this passage are an introduction of Jesus by John the Baptist. Here John calls Jesus the "Lamb of God" and two disciples begin to follow Jesus. Not follow in the sense of what we think of as a disciple following Jesus, but more in the sense of walking with Jesus.

As I follow Jesus and look to where he is staying. I find Jesus to spend most of his time with me. I find Jesus staying with me. Not because I'm such a wonderful host. But Jesus stays with me and each of us because of his love for us. I remain with Jesus as Jesus remains with me.

It seems that in this way disciples are formed that follow Jesus' teachings. Disciples discover and tell others to "Come and See!" It turns out that we didn't discover Jesus as much as Jesus decided to be with us, to work with us and to teach us his will and his way.

Jesus decides to show us where he stays. Thanks be to God!

Prayer
Lord, I'm glad you took this tag along in to show you where you stay... today... tomorrow... and forever. --- Amen
