April 12th Reflection by Bill Lynch

Acts 2:42-47 (NRSV)
The believers' common life

They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.

Awe came upon everyone, because many wonders and signs were being done by the apostles. All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need. Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.

Reflection
They all had fellowship together. Oh how we love to eat. But this was much more than that, this was breaking bread and prayer. This was a love in fellowship taught to the apostles and disciples by Jesus. This was an action of compassion.

Day by day they were in fellowship with one another and day by day people accepted the salvation offered by this group of Christians and were added to the group.

All of this took place not because of some plan that was enacted but because of the love and compassion of Jesus that was being shown through the disciples. Makes you think of how we should act out that love in our daily lives. Act out the love of Christ and open our homes and lives in love and compassion to fellowship and teach to the breaking of bread and prayers.

Prayer
Lord, open my heart and life to your teaching and the teaching of your ways. Open my heart and life to your compassion and love and to the breaking of bread and prayer... day by day. --- Amen
