April 20th Reflection by Bill Lynch

1 John 2:26--28 (NRSV)
Have confidence in the coming one

I write these things to you concerning those who would deceive you. As for you, the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and so you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, abide in him.
And now, little children, abide in him, so that when he is revealed we may have confidence and not be put to shame before him at his coming.

Reflection
Only a couple of verses. Verses that provide a wealth of meaning. The antichrists who deceive are lacking the Holy Spirit. As we grow with the Holy Spirit we take on a radical change. It's not like "born again" but more like born.

We are born into a radical new way of life. It's not a life that just extends this life, or even a life that makes the remainder of our days on this earth have purpose. It's a new life that has no ending. This life does not end in the death of this earthly vessel.

So, we are little children, growing in the teachings of God and gaining confidence in God so that we are in God. Thanks be to God that in our baptism we are born! Born in the Father, born in the Son, born in the Holy Spirit.

Prayer
Lord, I rise to greet you to a new day in which I grow in you. Teach me all along the way of this life... today... tomorrow... and forever. --- Amen
