November 10th - Reflection

Psalm 123 (NRSV)
Our eyes look to God

To you I lift up my eyes,
O you who are enthroned in the heavens!
As the eyes of servants
look to the hand of their master,
as the eyes of a maid
to the hand of her mistress,
so our eyes look to the Lord our God,
until he has mercy upon us.

Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us,
for we have had more than enough of contempt.
Our soul has had more than its fill of the scorn
of those who are at ease,
of the contempt of the proud.

Reflection
Our personal needs, our feelings, our emotions all come in to play with our cries to God. We fix our eyes exactly where they need to be fixed, not on the person or group of which we desire revenge, but on the God of love and mercy. We fix our eyes on God, the one source of power and leave the decision to God. And our God is moved by our personal needs. We have a brother in Christ, and a Spirit proceeding, that comes to comfort us when our feelings hurt. We have a God that reaches out to heal and bring to unity his Church. We are united in the one purpose that makes all the difference, Jesus Christ, our Lord, our Savior.

Prayer
Have mercy on us Lord, show us how to love one another. Keep us united in you always. --- Amen
