November 24th - Reflection

Psalm 24 (NRSV)
The King of glory comes

The earth is the Lord's and all that is in it,
the world, and those who live in it;
for he has founded it on the seas,
and established it on the rivers.

Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord?
And who shall stand in his holy place?
Those who have clean hands and pure hearts,
who do not lift up their souls to what is false,
and do not swear deceitfully.
They will receive blessing from the Lord,
and vindication from the God of their salvation.
Such is the company of those who seek him,
who seek the face of the God of Jacob.
Selah

Lift up your heads, O gates!
and be lifted up, O ancient doors!
that the King of glory may come in.
Who is the King of glory?
The Lord, strong and mighty,
the Lord, mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, O gates!
and be lifted up, O ancient doors!
that the King of glory may come in.
Who is this King of glory?
The Lord of hosts,
he is the King of glory.
Selah

Reflection
Just as David processed with the Ark of the Covenant to the gates of Jerusalem; we process with Jesus to the gates of our hearts. David was victorious in many battles; and we are victorious in many struggles with the help of God. But the gates to Jerusalem and also the gate to our hearts will not open on our victories alone. The gate to our heart opens only to the glory and honor of God our Savior.

So open wide the gate of your heart that the King of glory may come in. Open wide the gate of your heart that the Lord of hosts may come in. Open wide the gate of your heart that the Lord, mighty in battle may come in. Seek the Lord and he will come into your heart with grace, power and love. Thanks be to God!

Prayer
Lord, King of all creation, I open wide my heart to you. You are the one I have hunted for. You are my King! --- Amen
