October 28th - Reflection

2 Peter 2:1-3 (NRSV)
False prophets and their punishment
But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive opinions. They will even deny the Master who bought them bringing swift destruction on themselves. Even so, many will follow their licentious ways, and because of these teachers the way of truth will be maligned. And in their greed they will exploit you with deceptive words. Their condemnation, pronounced against them long ago, has not been idle, and their destruction is not asleep.

Reflection
The false prophets bring three dangers at least. They lose life because they deny life, they get others to follow them in this same pattern, and they make their money from believers falling for it all.

Sometimes we get trapped in our emotions for self and we fall for teaching that pretends to bring us an answer to all of our pain and suffering. Instead of turning to God we turn to human people and methods that lead us astray.

It's best to bounce your suspicions off of the Word of God, Prayer, the Church and other Christians and leaders. Give the Holy Spirit time to lead and guide you. Take time to listen to God. Center your thoughts and spirit on God, knowing that God is your Master.

Prayer
Lord, as I look to you, lead me, guide me, and permit me to faithfully follow you in all you would have me do... today... tomorrow... and forever. --- Amen
