October 6th - Reflection

1 Peter 5:1-5, 12-14 (NRSV)
Stand fast, the chief shepherd is coming

Each and every day we are given some of God's creation to care for and to nourish and to be blessed by and through. We may meet special friends, or work mates, we may have gardens to tend or even pets to care for. We may nurture words or send letters or prayers for another child of God. We may tend to the care of machinery or preserve the environment. We may provide service to many people in many and various ways.

Each day we are given something to pastor and care and shepherd with the love God has shown to us. And as we reflect the love of Christ, we are to take seriously all of our actions and works, working for the other as if we are working for God. For this is the truth. As we work for others and care for the world God has placed us within we work for God.

Prayer
Lord take may actions, words, prayers and all I do this day, that I may humbly give to you and those you give to me, the love you have shown through Jesus Christ my Savior and Lord. --- Amen
Now as an elder myself and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as one who shares in the glory to be revealed, I exhort the elders among you to tend the flock of God that is in your charge, exercising the oversight, not under compulsion but willingly, as God would have you do it -- not for sordid gain but eagerly. Do not lord it over those in your charge, but be examples to the flock. And when the chief shepherd appears, you will win the crown of glory that never fades away. In the same way, you who are younger must accept the authority of the elders. And all of you must clothe yourselves with humility in your dealings with one another, for
"God opposes the proud,
but gives grace to the humble." ...

Through Silvanus, whom I consider a faithful brother, I have written this short letter to encourage you and to testify that this is the true grace of God. Stand fast in it. Your sister church in Babylon, chosen together with you, sends you greetings; and so does my son Mark. Greet one another with a kiss of love.

Peace to all of you who are in Christ.
