May 20th Reflection by Bill Lynch

Proverbs 8:1-4, 22-31

Does not wisdom call,
and does not understanding raise her voice?
On the heights, beside the way,
at the crossroads she takes her stand;
beside the gates in front of the town,
at the entrance of the portals she cries out:
“To you, O people, I call,
and my cry is to all that live.

The Lord created me at the beginning of his work,
the first of his acts of long ago.
Ages ago I was set up,
at the first, before the beginning of the earth.
When there were no depths I was brought forth,
when there were no springs abounding with water.
Before the mountains had been shaped,
before the hills, I was brought forth—
when he had not yet made earth and fields,
or the world’s first bits of soil.
When he established the heavens, I was there,
when he drew a circle on the face of the deep,
when he made firm the skies above,
when he established the fountains of the deep,
when he assigned to the sea its limit,
so that the waters might not transgress his command,
when he marked out the foundations of the earth, then I was beside him, like a master worker;
and I was daily his delight,
rejoicing before him always,
rejoicing in his inhabited world
and delighting in the human race.

Reflection
Was this wisdom and this understanding to take on flesh? Were they created or did they proceed from God? These are questions we must ask. These are questions that we could wrap ourselves into and cause ourselves to miss the wonder of creation.

God's Spirit moved over the chaotic waters and brought life out of darkness and void. This "Wisdom" being created before the beginning. God thought past the end before the beginning. It's something far too wonderful for me to fathom or even imagine. But I can see the truth of this in Jesus and in the pouring of the Spirit on the Church and all God's people. God created and brought to life this wisdom that brings love into the created world. God brings love through wisdom and breathes life into that love in the form of Jesus.

God moves in this creation and moves through this creation and hovers all over this creation. In this world. God is present. In his Church God resides, in you and in me God moves and love is active. In God there is love, wisdom, understanding and a passionate action to create.

Prayer
Lord, as you rejoice, let us rejoice in praise and thanksgiving for all life, love, wisdom and understanding that flows from your Spirit... today... tomorrow... and forever. --- Amen
