April 8th - Reflections

Reading
Acts 5:12-16 (NRSV)
Signs and wonders by the apostles

Now many signs and wonders were done among the people through the apostles. And they were all together in Solomon's Portico. None of the rest dared to join them, but the people held them in high esteem. Yet more than ever believers were added to the Lord, great numbers of both men and women, so that they even carried out the sick into the streets, and laid them on cots and mats, in order that Peter's shadow might fall on some of them as he came by. A great number of people would also gather from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those tormented by unclean spirits, and they were all cured.

Reflection
As we come to believe in what God has done for us through Jesus' life, ministry, suffering, death and resurrection, the Holy Spirit invades our very being. A new creation begins to grow. I can see this especially in baptism. In baptism, old or young, the Spirit of God takes hold of a life and begins to work. The person remains a child of God always, but begins to mature through Scripture, the Sacraments and the hearing and acting out on the Word. The Word becomes flesh in this Child of God and becomes active and alive. Passion for Christ and compassion for creation and neighbor grows and flourishes. There is no telling what the Spirit may accomplish in this life of a Child of God. --- "Now many signs and wonders were done among the people through the apostles." --- And even more believers were added to the Lord...Thanks be to God!

Prayer
Lord Jesus, may your resurrection be a life of resurrection in me this day. May all see that I am a spiritual being in connection to you and your love. Shake my life and rock my world in this Easter presence and let your love come through me today...tomorrow...and forever. --- Amen
