May 19th - Reflection

Psalm 29 (NRSV)
The glory of God

Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings,
ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
Ascribe to the Lord the glory of his name;
worship the Lord in holy splendor.

The voice of the Lord is over the waters;
the God of glory thunders,
the Lord, over mighty waters.
The voice of the Lord is powerful;
the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.

The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars;
the Lord breaks the cedars of Lebanon.
He makes Lebanon skip like a calf,
and Sirion like a young wild ox.

The voice of the Lord flashes forth flames of fire.
The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness;
the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.

The voice of the Lord causes the oaks to whirl,
and strips the forest bare;
and in his temple all say, "Glory!"

The Lord sits enthroned over the flood;
the Lord sits enthroned as king forever.
May the Lord give strength to his people!
May the Lord bless his people with peace!

Reflection
Give God the glory, honor and praise. God is all powerful and can take care of any issue we may run into. God is present in, amongst and around us at all times. God is closer than you could ever imagine. Even in the midst of joyful celebrations, God is present. In the midst of my sinful nature, God is there to pull me and guide me and lead me gently or with force as needed back onto the path God wishes for me to take.

Hear God's voice in the words of a friend. Hear God's voice in a sermon. Read God's Word and hear God speak to you directly through the lives of those who lived years ago yet live on today. My story is God's story. And know that your baptismal vows are real and active day after day. Arise from the flood of water that washed over you day after day. Arise to new life in God. Walk with the Savior and work in the Kingdom in love and compassion to all those God gives to you each day.

Prayer
Lord, as we pull up out of the waters of our baptism this day to new life in you, give us peace, understanding, compassion, love and your direction...today...tomorrow...and forever. --- Amen
