July 30th - Reflection

Psalm 145:8-9, 14-21 (NRSV)
You open wide your hand
The Lord is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
The Lord is good to all,
and his compassion is over all that he has made. ...

The Lord upholds all who are falling,
and raises up all who are bowed down.
The eyes of all look to you,
and you give them their food in due season.
You open your hand,
satisfying the desire of every living thing.
The Lord is just in all his ways,
and kind in all his doings.
The Lord is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.
He fulfills the desire of all who fear him;
he also hears their cry, and saves them.
The Lord watches over all who love him,
but all the wicked he will destroy.

My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord,
and all flesh will bless his holy name forever and ever.

Reflection
Notice how many times "all" and "him" were used in the passage? It seems to me that the psalmist is making a point that all y'alls are included in God's compassion. We call...God is there. We desire...God is there. We cry...God is there. We fall...God is there.

God is abounding in steadfast love. God puts up with it all and still loves. God has compassion over ALL he has made. It sounds like God loves his creation and desires more than anything to take care of it, nurture it, and watch it grow and mature.

And on top of that, it seems to me, that God will protect and defend all creation from wickedness. Sin, death, and the devil. They don't stand a chance against God's judgment and righteousness. Through God's grace he draws near and responds and hears and saves. In fact, God walks with us in Jesus and through the Holy Spirit.

All y'alls can't help but to respond to that with the praise and blessing of God's holy name...today...tomorrow...and forever! Thanks be to God!

Prayer
Lord, just one glance around me, wherever I may be, brings forth a joy in all you have created, loved and saved. Be with all this day in the joys, the tears, the pains, the sadness, the worship, the praise, and the work and play that we will do in your kingdom. You are God and your love is great...today...tomorrow...and forever. --- Amen
