May 5th - Reflection

1 Peter 1:8b-12 (NRSV)
The promised salvation comes Even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy, for you are receiving the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that was to be yours made careful search and inquiry, inquiring about the person or time that the Spirit of Christ within them indicated when it testified in advance to the sufferings destined for Christ and the subsequent glory. It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in regard to the things that have now been announced to you through those who brought you good news by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven things into which angels long to look!

Reflection
We are guided by the Spirit when we come to faith. Old Testament writers as well as New Testament writers as well as the faithful today are guided by the Spirit in our testimonies. When we hear the good news of Jesus Christ, his life, his ministry and his passion and resurrection, we are filled with the Holy Spirit and given the understanding only God could provide.

What an indescribable joy the good news brings to us as we receive the outcome of faith and the salvation of our souls. And just think, the Spirit sent from heaven things into which angels long to look! Thanks be to God!

Prayer
Lord, you have given us a joy in faith and salvation beyond anything we could ever imagine. --- Amen
