June 11th - Reflection

Psalm 33:12-22 (NRSV)
Our help and our shield
Happy is the nation whose God is the Lord,
the people whom he has chosen as his heritage.

The Lord looks down from heaven;
he sees all humankind.
From where he sits enthroned he watches
all the inhabitants of the earth
he who fashions the hearts of them all,
and observes all their deeds.
A king is not saved by his great army;
a warrior is not delivered by his great strength.
The war horse is a vain hope for victory,
and by its great might it cannot save.

Truly the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him,

on those who hope in his steadfast love,
to deliver their soul from death,
and to keep them alive in famine.

Our soul waits for the Lord;
he is our help and shield.
Our heart is glad in him,
because we trust in his holy name.
Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us,
even as we hope in you.

Reflection
Don't think that you can be saved by anything other than God. You can't be saved by any super power, or any natural power. Even the strength of the horse can not save you. Human ingenuity can not save us. Any creative use of military power can not save you. Natural forces can not save you. Not a pastor of bishop or any church leader can save you. You can't even devise a plan to save yourself.

If you desire salvation, God must step in. And God did step in by sending Jesus. God did step in by Jesus breathing his Spirit. God has stepped in to save you and me. This is the true basis of life that is available to all. This is real life.

God has been and always is faithful to all of us. Any one of us who honor God and believe that God steps in and is faithful, God delivers. We place our trust and hope only in God and are faithful to God. And due to what God has already done for us, we respond with joy and thanksgiving, honoring our Lord and Savior. Thanks be to God!

Prayer
Lord, you alone have the power to save me from my sin and bring life from death. You alone! --- Amen
