Romans 8:14-17 (NRSV)
Led by the Spirit of God
For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption. When we cry, "Abba! Father!" it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ if, in fact, we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him.
Reflection
We're all really just a bunch of kids after all. A bunch of giggling, wise cracking, joke poking, goofy kids running around in God's Kingdom here on this earth. Our Daddy is the best you could imagine. He takes care of us and when we get in trouble we can run to him yelling "Daddy, Daddy, I need help!" When we get hurt we can run to that same God yelling "Imma, Imma, I have a boo-boo!"
God is that perfect parent that Jesus spoke to so often. In God we have the Father, Jesus and the Spirit. The Father and Jesus lend a masculine trait. The Holy Spirit leads towards some feminine traits in the usage of the original language. But the point is that we are loved as God's children. Even though we are adopted children, God treats us as his own and makes us full heirs of God. And the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
So we learn and grow up in the shadow of God, Father, Jesus, Holy Spirit. We learn to sacrifice, to serve, and to love those in need. We discover how to give our life for another. And we give our life to God. We discern our call and graciously accept the gifts of the Spirit and joyfully put those gifts to full use in God's Kingdom daily. What a family, Abba-Daddy, Imma-Mommy, and Brother Jesus! All of us together as one with a host of brothers and sisters. Thanks be to God!
Prayer
I'm so thankful for my family Lord! --- Amen
