March 15th People Reflection

Wednesday 3/15/2006

Matthew 15.21-39-where in this deserted place are you going to dig up enough food for a meal?

Leviticus 26-27-These are the commandments that GOD gave to Moses on Mount Sinai for the People of Israel.

Ecclesiastes 1.12-2.26-Nothing but smoke—and spitting into the wind.

2 Esdras 4.26-52-Do not be in a greater hurry than the Most High. You, indeed, are in a hurry for yourself, but the Highest is in a hurry on behalf of many.

Genesis 42.18-28-What has God done to us?

2 Corinthians 6.3-18-We seem to be dying, and yet we are still alive.

Psalm 119.113-120-Your word is my only hope.

"What time did you get home?"- What is home? Where is home? How do you get there if you don’t know what or where it is? Why would one want to go there? Jesus and his disciples were with a bunch of people way out somewhere. Jesus didn’t want to send the people away without having first had something to eat for fear that they would faint on the road. The disciples didn’t know where they were going to get enough food to feed the people in this deserted place. Jesus asked them what they had. Some bread and some fish. The food ended up being enough for everyone. In this mountain some people ate a miraculous bread. Is this home? Is home a place to eat the bread and the wine? Another time God met with Moses and took care of his people. God gave the people commandments to keep their lives in order. To keep their focus on God and not the things of the world. Is this home? Is home a place to keep my focus on God? Maybe in contrast some homes might be those places where all effort, all love, all compassion, all friendship, all caring is like smoke and spitting into the wind. Is that home? Then I think that maybe I shouldn’t be in such a hurry to get home. Maybe I need to learn to wait on God’s time. He has so much more to consider than I do. Maybe in God’s time I will get home. Or is home the place you question God. Like Joseph’s brother’s questioning what God did to them. Is home where I question God about things that I caused? Is home the place I question, the place I repent of sin? Is home the place I die yet still live? Where is home? What is home? I think home must be in the final passage for today. Home is a hope that I need to live in and under and with. Home is the Word made flesh. Home is Jesus. "What time did you get home?" – Not sure what time it was. But I want to be home with Jesus now.

Prayer- Lord, take me home. -- Amen
