May 8th Reflection by Bill Lynch

1 John 5:1-3
Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the parent loves the child. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For the love of God is this, that we obey his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome...

Reflection
These are my grandchildren Kaiya and Bubbs playing with a friend in Fort Hood Texas. Playing comes natural with children; it's something they love to do. They can't wait to jump on a toy and play with a friend. Playing makes their day and gives them exercise, permits the use of imagination and thinking and is just plain ol fun!

That's the way it is with God too. When we believe that Jesus is God and are God's children ourselves, we can't help but to desire to want to play in the Kingdom. We yearn to learn from Jesus. We want to use what the Spirit has given us with one another and we want to obey God's commands because we love God. This desire to obey God out of love is not a burden at all... it's playtime. It's something natural and a part of our day that gives us exercise and protects us. Love of God and one another causes obedience to God's will and God's commandments.

Prayer
Lord, this day I look forward to learning more of your will and your commandments in my life as I play through the love you have graciously given to all through Jesus Christ. --- Amen
