Story of the Day
After a brief break, some lunch meat sandwiches and a few cookies and drink, we were ready to go back to work. Our job had now changed. We were no longer the primary rescue effort but were now support to those EMT skilled in rescue work. Back helping in anyway we could by getting supplies, running errands or bringing comfort to the injured, we came upon a man who had covered his child with his body upon the collapse of a structure of some sort. The child was only slightly injured but was upset and crying. I took the child into my arms and tried to bring comfort as the Techs worked on her Father. The father was wounded severely and most likely would not survive. He had given his very body, and now his life for the life of his child. I knew in the sadness of this situation that this man would somehow live on in the life of this three year old child. What a story of courage and love. What a Father that would give life for life. Just as this thought was taking place a great light from the search helicopter lit myself and the child from above. On the side of the helicopter all I could see was a cross and the Word Christ. The helicopter was to take the child to the emergency room of Christ Hospital and bring forth new life. A great Light and new Life to be lived in and through this child.
Prayer of the Day
Lord, even in the midst of death and tragedy, shine Your Light brightly so that all the world may see Your saving action of grace and love and know the depth of such. ---Amen
