October 5th People Reflection

Wednesday 10/5/2005

Revelation 5-The one who is called both the ‘Lion from the Tribe of Judah’ and ‘King David’s Great Descendant’ has won the victory. He will open the book and its seven seals.

Nehemiah 7.4-8.12-When the people returned to their homes, they celebrated by eating and drinking and by sharing their food with those in need, because they had understood what had been read to them. (God’s Law)

Psalm 100-Be thankful and praise the LORD as you enter his temple.

1 Corinthians 8.1-13-Anyone who claims to know something does not yet have the necessary knowledge; but anyone who loves God is known by him.

Deuteronomy 6.4-9-You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. Keep these words that I am commanding you today in your heart. Recite them to your children and talk about them when your are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise.

Psalm 119.9-16-I treasure your word in my heart…I will not forget your word.

"The Bible came alive when I decided to just read it." – Words like that from a friend- about their experience in reading the Bible- I think the Bible without a doubt comes alive- it comes alive with the Word—the Word made flesh- it comes alive through this Word and dwells among us and within us- the Word becomes a treasure in my heart- I can’t forget the Word- yea- the Word comes alive in the Bible- that collection of books that has surpassed time and ages- that has gone beyond persecution of many people- that has lead countless people through their own wilderness of life- and that Word can only come alive by Jesus opening the seal of my heart- the Lion – the descendant of David- Jesus – the Word opens the book and pours the Word into my heart- and the Word brings great joy- it brings the Love feast of the Moravians- a celebration of the reading of the Word- just like in Nehemiah- a celebration of love- love from the Word poured into my heart- overflowing it so that I can’t help but to love God with all my heart, soul and might- so I can’t help but to let that love overflow to my children and all I see- when I rise and when I lie down- yea—I will treasure the Word in my heart and not forget it- I will read and be inspired by this Word all my life- "The Bible came alive when I decided to just read it."—And the Word made flesh dwelt among us and now in us and through us--- Thanks be to God!

Prayer- Lord, thank you for the Bible- thank you for the gift of your Word- a life given – alive and active now and forever. --- Amen
