Matthew 27.1-31-And so they unwittingly followed the divine instructions to the letter.
Deuteronomy 5-6-Love GOD, your God, with your whole heart: love him with all that’s in you, love him with all you’ve got!
Job 6-Do you think I’m made of iron?
2 Esdras 8.62b-9.22-Therefore do not continue to be curious about how the ungodly will be punished; but inquire how the righteous will be saved…
Isaiah 50.4-9a-Each morning he awakens me eager to learn his teaching…
Deuteronomy 26.7-9-You brought us here and gave us this land rich with milk and honey.
Psalm 18-you help me stand on the mountains.
"Cookie!"- A trick to distract the dogs. They think they are getting a treat and stop whatever they are doing at the time and focus their attention on the one talking. The Jewish leaders of the day unwittingly fulfilled scripture when the bought Potters Field with the money they used to bribe Judas. They ended up following it to the letter. To the letter—just what Jesus came to correct us on—God wants our hearts not our actions—God provides the action through Jesus and saves us- what he wants is my heart to be his- to love him with all my heart – to love him with all I’ve got—not to think that I can make myself perfect by following all the commands to the letter- but to let God make me perfect through the action of Jesus saving grace—No God doesn’t think I’m made of iron- that’s why he gave Jesus in my stead- and knowing this I can awaken each morning eager to learn his teachings- to hear his voice- to listen to God speak through those I meet and the situations I’m in- not to focus on the punished- but to focus on the saved – God draws me out and shows me that land beyond the trees- that land of milk and honey and let’s me stand on that mountain and gaze at this land and into his eyes and into his heart. "Cookie!"- yea "Cookie!" – what a grand distraction God has given me—but in the same breath it is hope and love.
Prayer- Lord-distract me this day with your love. -- Amen
